1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I love to sew for my dolls BUT I can never seem to find the time! I get hung up with which fabrics and laces to use which way, keep procrastinating and changing my mind. However only a few of the many clothing items and shoes that I have purchased have actually fit.. So I am better off custom fitting and making my own. My girls have learned they have a long wait for clothes!!

    2. I am still new to sewing but I LOVE it! I can choose what material to use and what patterns to try and if I want something specific then I can make it :) I also LOVE to buy clothes too though! A variety of different styles is nice in my opinion :D

    3. I really like to make my own clothes. I think that if you want your doll to be really special that is the way. There is just so much more love in those items. And the connection you feel with the doll while making the clothes is priceless too.

    4. Buy them! For now. (: I would love to make clothes for my dolls in the future!

    5. i would love to be able to make them clothes but my sewing skills are minimum so until i get better they will have clothes bought for them. :)

    6. That is certainly a valid point.:) I remember I tried for the first time to make a pair of galife trousers for my first doll. That looked... well... miserable:)

    7. Both. I have only plans for boy dolls and the style that I prefer to dress them in requires clothing that's hard to find, at least without me having to jump through hoops to get them. So I want to make those clothes I can't buy, BUT that doesn't mean I have to shun someone else's work. ;) So I buy what I like and hope to make the rest. I actually had no real intention of learning to sew when I entered the hobby but I had visions for my boys clothes I couldn't obtain easily so now I want to try. Cost is not a factor to me because you actually aren't really saving a huge amount of money when you choose to sew an outfit unless it's made inexpensively. It's really a labor of love and the gratification lies in knowing you did it yourself and it's exactly how YOU wanted it :) That said though I still have favorite seamstresses I'd like to support and there are some outfits you could never think of on your own. I say this since I buy a lot from dealers who design and sew their own clothes more than I buy from official companies. I also have a huge obsession with doll clothes and doll shopping is really fun for me so I don't think I'll be giving that up anytime soon ^^

    8. I really want to learn how to make clothes, and sew, but what is stopping me is mostly the fact that I get very confused on reading patterns. If I did that I would make a lot more!

    9. I would really like to make clothes for my dolls, but my sewing machine is broken! Also... I'm very lazy :sweat So I guess Ill be buying until I can manage to get a new machine or something...

    10. A bit of both...if I can find patterns to make clothes then I'd make them...but otherwise I'll buy them. I can't sew free-handed at all without messing everything up OTL

    11. I never make my girls' clothes, ONLY their undergarments. And I'm still very new at that. U__U' But I prefer to buy my clothes on Etsy, where I know I support private people/artists, and more that often will get someone unique or something made in low quatities. And it's so much easier finding clothes I like this way, as quite a few take commissions. That way you can get clothes that are one of a kind for your dollies. <3 I am very picky on the matter of what my girls wear, heeeeeh. And not to forget, I don't have the patients nor skill to make clothes for them. xD As a contrast of Amakai, I can't use patterns at all! I can only sew freehand and that takes years..And my short sausage fingers are in the way so I keep from sewing clothes myself. U__U Then I clap my hands knowing there are thousand of people out there who knows and sews for a living! And as a sketch/watercolour artist myself, I love surpporting other artits, wether it's sewing, music or with pencils and brushes. (Sorry for all the text, this topic really got me rolling!)

    12. I tend to just troll through thrift shops and antique stores until a find a cheap doll that has cute clothes (I buy it for the clothes) or sometimes their just selling doll clothes and I get those.

    13. I would like to make clothes but I am terrible with patterns :( No better time to start learning though.

    14. I like to buy them. They have more tiny details which i like that i can't possibly make on my own.

    15. I love to design doll clothes. I also like creating patterns so others can sew also.

    16. I would love to buy clothes I design from a talented seamstress. As it is I am horrible with with sewing and have no time to learn but I also don't like the standard clothes that are out there.

    17. If I could sew something else besides pillows. I would prefer to make me own clothes because I know what I want. When you commission someone they may not always interrupt things as I do. But they are things in my BJD Wardrobe that I know I can't make even if I tried.

    18. I love making clothes but buying them is more convenient

    19. I CAN sew, and have done so for years, including making my own clothes. However, as a newish collector, I'm not sure if I can manage to make stuff in the small MSD size (unreliable arthritic fingers), so I've ordered a pattern to have a go. I'm attracted to the Steampunk look, so I guess it will be a mixture of bought and hand made. I'm NOT interested in making stockings or stuff like that!!

    20. I'd prefer to sew because no one knows what I really want.
But sometimes it's so frustrating, I'd rather pay.
