1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I buy clothes, but I have tried making some! I probably will try again some day, but for now, buy buy buy~

    2. Most of the time with BJDs I buy the clothes, because they're really big. But if it's smaller like a Monster High doll or other 1/6 scale dolls, I usually make the clothes, especially if it's a MH doll and I dislike the clothes he/she came with.
I'm just realizing how much stuff I make. Like, if I buy a doll, literally nothing stays the same. I either have to make something or change something.

    3. I can sew for my dolls, but I like to buy things for them as well because other people have creative ideas that I never would have thought to make :)

    4. Ideally I'd love to be able to sew everything I want for my dolls, but for now I buy stuff :]
One day though, one day I'll make really awesome shit for dolls and I'll never have to worry about if the awesome clothes I bought will actually fit my dolls.

    5. I don't really have a preference i don't mind buying them but it's hard to find clothes online that i find cute and my grandma has been saying she will teach me how to sew for 5 months and it hasn't happened yet so.. idk lol

    6. I don't have a preference, I do both - sew and buy. I do sew things that I can't find online or some basic things that I think are not worth byuing online, e.g. t-shirts, socks, basic pants etc. Sewing is sometimes really relaxing and fun to do. I don't have my sewing machine in my current flat, so I do only sew when I visit home (which unfortunately is not often) or my friends place. I am lazy to sew things that take lot of effort and different materials, e.g. jackets with lots of buttons, pockets and little details. Plus, sometimes it is cheaper to buy online than buy all the materials and make clothes. My current dolls are teenager humans, so it is really easy to find nice clothes for them online as well. If had dolls for my fantasy characters, I think it might be more difficult. Especially because have very precise idea what they were, so I would have sew most of their clothes.

    7. Usually I make a doll clothes by myself - almost all of my dolls is a fantasy creations, so they need a special style. But sometimes I both basic clothes - pants, socks, simple men's wear, etc. I do not want to spend my time for sew it by myself, it's easy do buy it and do not think about them.

    8. I wish I could make clothes for my dolls but sadly I can't sew yet. I think when my first BJD comes in, I'm going to start practicing. My mother even found a small sewing machine so I can get started. For know I will just have to purchase my dolly clothes.

    9. I don't have the time to sew these days, buying can be a bit of a hit and miss, sometimes the outfits are outstanding, sometimes they are very disappointing...
maybe I'll have to find the time to sew, as some have pointed out .. it can be difficult to get just what you want.

    10. I would love to make more clothes for my dolls! I'm such a perfectionist that I often modify the pieces I do buy. And I even have lots of fabric picked out on Spoonflower and elsewhere, and have many fabulous outfit ideas in my head. But the problem lies in the fact that I don't really sew things from scratch, so there would be a pretty big learning curve at first.

I'm trying to start with simple things like skirts, and will hopefully work my way up to more complicated patterns!

    11. Both, I'm currently practicing with my sewing machine again and I enjoy making my babies clothes :)

    12. I will be very happy to make myself some clothes for my BJD, but...I do not know how to sew. I tried dozens of times, but I am really hopeless

    13. I prefer buying clothes that other people have made on etsy. :) lol

    14. I prefer buying Company clothes i love the professional style and i am terrible in clothes making.

    15. I sew for 3 reasons.
1)Sewing is a nifty skill to have.
2)the cost of the sewing machine I have my eyes on costs less than some of those outfits for sale.
      3) orz I'm not made of money.

    16. I prefer to buy their clothes online.
I tried to make their clothes but I am terrible at it and I've been a lil busier now.
But yes, I should try to make more clothes for them

    17. I think sewing opportunity is one of the main reasons I like dolls! I have been going through a lot of Fray Check and hand sewing for Berwyn! I still prefer MSD and tiny sizes, apparently I am a masochist.:XD:

    18. I prefer buying my dolls clothes as i do not know how to sew but i would love to learn and sew for my dolls as sometimes it is so hard to find the dress or outfit i have in mind for my dolls that it gets so frustrating at times. But i do like buying clothes from esty as there are quite a few talented people who sews beautiful clothes for dolls.

    19. I buys because I cannot make clothes... id love to makr clothes with my personality

    20. If I had more money to spend on my dolls, I would love to buy certain things for them, but because I'm on a very limited budget, I sew most of their clothes. Fortunately I do know how to sew, but I sewed for a living all my life, and sometimes I wish I could just buy them a new outfit instead of make it myself.
