1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. So far, I only buy shoes. Although there is a motorcycle jacket I have my eye on that I have zero intention of making myself. I can make my dollys just about whatever I want whether I sew it, crochet or knit it. But in all fairness, I've been making clothes for full sized people for a couple decades so these little guys are super fun for me. :)

    2. If I know how to make clothes, I would definitely make clothes for them=3= But I don't know how to do so T3T...So, I can just buy clothes or order tailor made clothes for them=3=

*Although I cannot make clothes for them, I will make accessories for them =]

    3. I buy more than I make.

    4. I have no sewing skills. So I buy all of my clothes. I am gonna try and make some but I don't know how that will work out.

    5. i would buy the clothes because i dont know how to make doll clothes

    6. I'm a pretty good seamstress, but I don't have a lot of time to sew so anything I make tends to take a long time to complete. I buy shoes and boots.

    7. I prefer to make clothes, now I'm making a dress, but it takes too long) 4 days I made a skirt for the dress and till she is half made^^

    8. I prefer to make them but sometimes I see something I really like and just buy it.

    9. I was a professional costumer by trade, so you better believe I sew almost all my own doll clothes. Though that actually took about a year to learn to scale down. I would buy if something came along that I couldn't make-say, a really nifty uniform with lots of detailed pieces I can't get. But the only clothes my dolls have that I didn't make are swap clothes and LE outfits that came with them. Okay, there was one pleated skirt and blouse that I could have made, but it was on sale for $7.00 with free shipping and I was all over that in an instant because it was certainly worth the money.

I do a lot of fantasy/historical stuff, which means I really have to sew, because there's nothing out there that I like in those categories.

    10. I always buy because I don't know how to make.

    11. I prefer to make clothes rather than buy them, mostly because clothes are prohibitively expensive. (If I'm going to spend $50 on a dress, it's going to be for me!) Things I can't make, like really well-tailored jeans, or Cas's trench coat, I'll buy... or if I see something that I like that doesn't cost a lot, I'll buy it and cut it up for patterns. But for the most part I make everything myself.

    12. I'd prefer to buy all my dolls' clothing but, because I have such strong ideas about what they should wear, it's incredibly rare for me to find anything suitable pre-made. I'm having to teach myself how to sew, just so I can create all the outfits I picture my dolls wearing.

    13. I do both. So far I have bought most of the clothes and only made a pair of pants for my guys. However I intend to make a lot of clothes for them eventually since the characters have very specific ways they do dress and don't dress. And unfortunately most available clothes are on their "refuse to wear" list :sweat. I like making clothes and I think I will try to make a lot of my own clothes unless it is really complicated things like suits or similar.

    14. I'd really like to make most of my own clothes, so I'm working on that. The doll hobby is expensive as it is, I can't afford to drop so much money on clothes on top of that! *_*

If I see something really wonderful though that I just HAVE to have, I would probably buy it if I had the money. My mom can sew and wants to make more clothes for my girl (and any more dolls to come), so I have that covered if I'm really in need of a new outfit. I'm currently finding my way through figuring out how to apply my crochet skills to make dolly sweaters, dresses, and tops. I'm always going to have to buy shoes, though. I don't have the patience for trial and error when I could just buy new ones.

    15. I'd love to be able to make my girl clothes (cute doll clothes are always so expensive!! x.X ) but I'm not that great at sewing so I'd rather buy or commission her clothes.
I will attempt to make her a simple dress or something though...

    16. I'd like to buy clothes, but all my dolls are off-size babies. So I just have to make stuff myself. And clothes on sites are boring, not the style I'd prefer. I like male fashion, real things like D&G, Gaultier, CdG, Etro, but BJD firms don't make such stuff))) So I watch shows, get inspired, and then try to make things that I would like to see on my plastic boys)))

    17. That is easy to answer: I would prefer to make them, but my preference isn't the reality. I actually buy everything since I cannot make clothing myself at this point.

    18. Dolly wardrobe currently has a handmade:bought ratio of about 70:30.
It'll probably veer even more strongly that way in the coming months. I love making things and only bought things initially so that I could take my time in making clothes, while admiring the beautiful store-bought ones.

    19. Oh if I could make clothes for my doll, I would never ever sleep. But because my skills are very limited, I'm willing to spend extra to buy my doll fabulous clothing.

    20. i would prefer make clothes for them! but,,,,,, im not able to.
im learning to make clothes now, cuz their clothes always cost to much, and you cant make sure whether they suits your doll well.
anyway, you may laugh at some guy learning sewing clothes just for his dolls! gosh...
