1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. i am not sure if i've replied to this thread or not lol, but anyways....i get extreme joy from creating and since the moment i decided to get into this hobby i decided as well that i would not purchase clothing but make my own. not to mention how expensive most clothing can be, specially the type of stuff iam interested in. i just love going to the fabric stores and selecting the type of things i need to make something unique only my dolls would wear. i find it very special, plus like i said i enjoy the creating and sewing time very much <3!!!

    2. :)I like both. I well be making my Rini skirts due to it's hard to find the right one that she well like etc.

    3. I really prefer making doll clothes all by myself!!
if there are some one knows what clothes and outfits suits my doll best, that would be me! i know exactly what my doll needs for his character, and what size he needs. cuz the clothes i bought for him are not always the same as i thought and want to be. so i really want to make clothes and outfit for him!
so, i working on it, learning to make clothes~ :)

    4. I'll try to sew everything myself. First, because I can sew the style or type of cloth that I like.
      Second, it's way cheaper
Third, I want to practice sewing anyways

if I happen to fall for a piece of clothing that can be bought, I'd do that too.
      but I'll try sewing first

    5. I made most of the plain t-shirts and tanks. The patterns are not too hard and it's way cheaper than buying.

But for something fantasy or vintage, I really want to make them myself but some companies' outfits is really oiuxyubhjnghjkgld!!! GORGEOUS!!!
and I end up buying them eventually. :(

      so that means I make only the easy things huh =A=;

    6. I would like to buy more, but as the postal costs and the custom fees are expensive, I'm trying to do most of the clothes. The best of all is that I enjoy making things and invent them sometimes xD

    7. I really do want to learn how to sew, but at the moment, I don't really have a lot of time for it, so... I guess I'm stuck buying clothes! XD

    8. I prefer to make my bjd's clothing since most of the DC clothes I've found so far online are not my type of outfit for the DC bjd I have now. Sewing is also not a problem for me and as long as I can remember everything from my sewing classes and the lessons from mom then it's all good :). Also on another topic does anyone else prefer handsewing to machine sewing? My oppinion is that there is just something nice about handsewing items for bjd, in a way the controll and precise placement of stitches can be allot better than the generalisation of sewing machine stitching; the downside being that handsewing is way more time consuming ^^. But on the topic question I do prefer to creat bjd clothing rather than buying for my own bjd :)

    9. I do both. Since sewing clothes for adults is a business for me, anytime I see a doll outfit I like, I say to self, "would I make it for that price?" If self says "No way!" I buy it.

    10. I *prefer* making them, but there're some things I'm either unwilling or unable to make. Basic things like t-shirts and hoodies are way too easy to waste money on, but more complicated things like jackets and coats I haven't the patience to try making. Some other bits of clothing I just buy, as well, like button-down shirts and jeans. (Sewing plackets and buttonholes? NO thanks. XD) I do occasionally make pants/trousers, but only if I can make them either elastic waist or snap-fly. I can't set a zipper in anything but a hoodie to save my life.

    11. Ideally I would prefer to make them as I would save money but I feel that I don't have the skills to make my dolls dresses in the style I desire. I plan to work on this ;)

    12. I make my dolls' clothes. I definitely catch myself thinking how much I'd prefer to just buy them, especially when browsing around and seeing some particularly good deals, but it's a necessary sacrifice for me--it means that in the long run I will be able to afford better eyes, better wigs, and face-up commissions if I ever feel the need to do so. It's a form of self-discipline that is good for me, too, because knowing I have to design and make it myself means I think much more seriously about every piece of clothing I want.

    13. I make my own doll clothes as much as possible..but I still buy some times..especially if it's a H. Naoto brand in a really good price.

    14. I buy all of my doll's outfits, but I've always wished I could sew. :3 I've been considering possibly trying to learn, but at the moment I'm not in a hurry to figure out. Maybe in the future though! ^^

    15. Though I suck at sewing, I plan on making most my girl's clothes. It would have to all be hand sewn, though, I'm terrified of sewing machines. I'll probably buy some clothes that I know I have no chance of ever being able to make.

    16. I really prefer to make the clothes myself, but I am not a very good seamstress, so sometimes it's unavoidable that I have to buy things.

    17. I cant sew to save my life at the moment so I am stuck buying but in the long run I would prefer to learn to sew and make my own so I can make cosplay outfits for my dolls

    18. I try making my clothes, but I can only make basic outfits and nothing like what I imagine. D: I'm not fond of buying clothes either because they're so expensive! I'm hoping to learn how to sew better in the future, then I'd be able to make the clothes I imagine~

    19. I'd love to buy them, but as I'm paying for college and a car, I find myself saying, "why would I buy that when I could make it?" but then never making it either... >.<

    20. I am crap at sewing clothes for my own dolls! I end up joining swaps so all the nicest clothes I've ever made all belong to other people! LOL! I would prefer to buy clothes for this reason. Though I don't have a lot of money (it's been shrinking) so I'm going to have to start sewing for my own dolls soon! Just after I finish this swap.... :)
