Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. Buy! Especially from cute little Etsy shops. My sewing machine hates me, otherwise I would attempt to make a few things out of all the fabric I have saved up.

    2. As many of other people, I prefer bying clothes. I extremely dislike sewing, and even if I make a really hard effort, the result is really sad
Actually, I would really like to make clothes by myself. The main reason is that company clothes are really expensive. Also I just like make something with my own hands. But... that's just not my thing, I suppose
Company clothes are always high quality, so they worth their cost. I care about how doll looks. And doll always looks better in clothes made by professionals. So bying clothes is my choice, despite the disadvantage of high cost

    3. At the moment, I would rather buy their clothes because I am not exactly an experty sewer, but when I have the time, I do want to learn how to master the art so I can make them. It's much cheaper!

    4. If I could make clothes I would, but sadly I can't. So I'll just stick to buying clothes instead lol

    5. This hands have no what so ever talent in sewing Q~Q so buying it is.

    6. I am currently "re-learning" to sew for dolls---it is much more challenging than sewing clothing for myself. Finding the right scale for trims, buttons, and fabric can be down right frustrating in my area. Choices are very limited. So with that said, I would rather purchase clothing for my dolls---especially for my boys.

    7. I am a seamstress, so everything is me-made. It's part of fun and play, to find the right style for each of them. Unfortunately, there is a negative side - most of the outfits get sold, so usually I have a few naked dolls laying around :(

    8. I like both, making and buying clothes for them. I really enjoy making outfits for my doll, but there are things I can't make for her, like really detailed shoes or bags so those are the ones I buy for her.

    9. I would love to be able to buy more clothes. There are some amazing seamstresses out there, with amazing outfits and styles that I would love to add to my collection. Unfortunately, anything worth buying is over my dolly budget. Not that the clothes aren't worth the price, but I can't justify many of the clothing purchases, as much as I might like them. Besides, it is often very hard to find the kind of clothes I'm really looking for. My dolls have a very specific style - they're all from a medieval fantasy world, and they're clothing needs to reflect that. There are very few outfits like that up for sale, so I found that the only way to get what I'm looking for is to make it myself. I unfortunately don't sew as quickly as I would like, and I'm not as good as some of the really good costumers out there, but I'm working on it, and in the end, I get the outfit I'm looking for.

So really, I like to do both. I make what I need and what I can't buy, and I occasionally buy what I cannot make (although with an eye to learn how these outfits were constructed to one day make something similar).

    10. I'd like to learn to sew but last time I tried I wasn't too great. I'd like to try to learn again though!

Fortunately there are lots of cute shops here an on Etsy to buy from so I'll stick to buying until sewing becomes a reasonable option.

    11. I love sewing so it's great to make my own clothes and it's so much more affordable when you can't find anything that fits your doll right because he's not a MSD but not a Puki, lol.

    12. Even though my skills could use alot of refining and improving, I'd prefer to sew my own clothes. No company could ever truly understand my vision the way I do, and then, I like knowing noone else will have the same thing I do. If it were up to me though, whatever I couldn't personally make, I'd commission, it's just too bad the good ones don't work in certain sizes and body types!

    13. I got my doll in the hopes of finally forcing myself to learn how to sew.
....no luck yet, but I'm working on it.
      ........slowly. 8C

    14. I would love to buy some of the more elaborate outfits, like the ones with tiny zippers or intricate lace work, but being a doll owner on a budget they get what I can make them. Still working on mastering shoes. :)

    15. Buying
      definitely buying
i should not be trusted with any sort of clothing making materials.

    16. This is going to sound bad, because I make clothing for a living, but most the time, if I can afford it, I'd rather buy. I get lazy sometimes! I'll admit it. When you're sewing a rococo era ball gown at work, you don't want to come home and have to sew one for your doll.

    17. I could probably make a period 1800s ball gown out of a vintage curtain fragment and an old gum wrapper! Been doing it for years, so sewing isn't a problem for me. A big part of why I got into these dolls in the first place was to be able to make clothes for them. That's why I'm so insistent that they each have their own unique style...I need to be able to experiment with different looks. It's all part of the fun and how I play with them.:)

    18. If I was at all artistic or good at sewing or anything like that at all, I would love to make clothes myself but because I am hopeless when it comes to that stuff I do buy. I pretty much go without new clothes just so that my dolls can wear the best :)

    19. I would rather make them because I'm super picky and specific when creating an oc. But I wouldn't mind buying clothes ether. If it looks like something my character would wear I'll buy it.

    20. That's easy, buy them. I can't imagine making them.
