1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your choice of skin color?

Jun 28, 2012

    1. I will usually go with NS.
Tan makes All the dolls prettier, but it's a bit stressful to order since it can vary from a beautiful natural colour to jersey shore orange xP
But I strongly dislike WS. Too pale and abnormal for me.

    2. Honestly, my favorite colors are the more fantasy-like colors. Pastels in purple, pink, blue, green, etc. I just love how unique it looks. But not many companies do this, so I have never really gotten the chance. :)

    3. My favorite is ebony, I love dark skinned dolls, always have since I was a little girl.

But really if I could have my say... weird colors like Magenta and Blue.

    4. Darker skin tones, from tan to ebony. If money were no object, as they say ...

    5. I buy my dolls in white skin because it seems eazier to blush their bodies.

    6. I usually always go for normal skin. It is more versatile for what I like to do. White skin, though I do own one and a head, is too pale for me for the most part, but I still like it for some reason (I think I must have a Snow White complex too). I love looking at darker skinned and tanned dolls. They are so gorgeous! I haven't purchased one, mostly because they wouldn't really fit in with my collection (though I would love a tan or real skin JID Isar). I also don't think I'd do their faceups justice.

    7. NS for me - I prefer the way it photographs and ages in comparison to WS. And while tan resins are pretty, I'm not a fan of their mottling. I also like to be able to sand seams, etc without the threat of colour variances should the urge strike.

    8. I don't really have a favourite skin colour. I let the character decide. That being said, I have a fairly broad spectrum of coloured dolls. WS, NY, tan, grey, dark grey, pale blue, red, chocolate.... I've also had a doll custom dyed coal black and I have 2 dolls in environmental resin (BBD and JieDoll). Some of my WS dolls were 2nd/3rd/4th hand and have mellowed (and I like the warmer tone they have), but one of my dolls was purchased direct from the company about 6 months ago and is paper white, which works for his character.

There might be a purple doll on down the line, but he'd likely have to be overdyed as the RS purple isn't purple enough for him. I'd love to have a mottled blue/green doll that was actually produced that way, but I don't really see that happening *sigh*.

    9. I prefer WS but also own NS and have owned a tan doll in the past (and am expecting another). I pick the skin tone depending on the character they're supposed to represent rather than anything, however, so yes...

    10. I like fantasy colors best, grey, white (which depending on the company is not a human color accept in the pigmently challenged), green, blue, etc.

But a lot of those colors are hard to come by, or only on LEs. All my favorite dolls are the least realistic and for some reason all the companies making tan and dark tan beauties all have very realistic sculpts which I can't stand.

    11. Normal skin - it ages well, and with the standard normal yellow skin most of my LUTS and Infinitidoll dolls are, I can mix and match parts from other companies fairly easily. I do have some white skin dolls currently, but I'm really paranoid about letting them out into the sun.

Edited 2015 Three years later I also have two tan dolls, one of which is my precious. I am super paranoid about them greening unevenly though. D:

    12. All my dolls are in white skin. I had a normal skin one before, though I didn't like the look of his skin in real life, I really liked how it looked in pictures. I would like to try a tan skin someday, but not too dark.

    13. I used to like white skin, but now I go for normal.

I'd love to get a tan doll but I know they can be harder to care for. I'm very careful with my dolls and they stay inside most of the time and out of direct sunlight but I still think of myself as a low maintenance doll person. Maybe one day I'll try tan, though.

    14. I've found over the years collecting I do not like owning white skin dolls. I'll see absolutely beautiful ones in photos and admire them, but I just don't like owning them for some reason. Tan and grey resins always seem to be big winners with me though.

    15. In fact I love all the skin colors. I think it really depends on a certain doll's mold which skin color looks best on him/her. For example, I had a long debate with myself if I should invest on my DikaDoll Adler and get him in tan or save money and get the normal yellow. When I heard Dika was going to cancel producing tan dolls, the decision was made. And it was the right one - I think tan skin really suits Adler's mold.

It is my goal to own dolls with various skin colours and I find them all equally pretty, in their own way. :3 I used to think grey resin is not for me, but after seeing wonderful owner pictures of grey skinned BJDs, I've started to dream about a 70 cm grey boy of my own~ ^3^ :aheartbea

So - why choose only one color when you can enjoy them all? :3

    16. My favorites are either "paper" and/or cream whites + realistic shades of brown. I also have in my crew a few dolls in the color(s) the doll companies have dubbed "normal" skin tone (which I actually consider to be more accurately a natural peachy skin tone) + one Dollshe boy in "fresh skin" (a pretty pale color with soft pink undertones).

I think all skin tones, whether they be realistic or fantasy based, are lovely, but for my own purposes, I always select skin tone based on what character I plan to give a doll. I enjoy having many different skin tones in my group, all the better to reflect the diverse nature of my characters.

Since I re-homed the 3 french resin dolls I used to own, I haven't had any problems with discolorations in any of my crew, regardless of skin tones. Some of the older urethane white skin tones have mellowed into deep cream or almost a pale "normal" tone, but I like the natural mellowing, looks very pretty. One of my older dolls has retained her very stark white tones (Soom SG Onyx Light).

    17. The only dolls that I currently own are all in the same CW skin tone mostly from around the same time. I absolutely love this tone - it's not paper white, but nice and creamy. I like my collection to have a theme, so I am only collecting dolls which have this same white skin tone. It gets extremely annoying when you see a beautiful sculpt that's only in tan or normal skin, but on the upside, it saves me money if they're not in the skin tone I want!

    18. I agree with you NioSpica! :) When I started my collection, all my dolls were in NS, but that's because the specific dolls I wanted were only offered in NS. Eventually though I began to find myself attracted to Beauty White, and as limited dolls from different companies were offered in this skintone, I snapped them up. I now have dolls in all kinds of skintones, and love the looks of them all. I am concerned about color changing on all of my dolls in the future, but so far, I'm not noticing any that aren't aging evenly....thank goodness! ;) As others have already posted, it's all about what looks best on a particular doll, though I hoping Volks will release more dolls in their lovely new Shadow Skintone! :love

      Juli DC :)

    19. White, like a blank canvas, or classical statuary. It doesn't need to stay blank, but it's an easier place to start.

    20. I am not partial to any one skin tone in particular. I like both very light and very dark skin.
