It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your choice of skin color?

Jun 28, 2012

    1. For my first doll, I chose yellow. Not only do I think it is a unique hue, but I know resin yellows. So, I figured if I had a yellow doll who became more yellow, no problem because I wanted a yellow doll anyway. However, if I had a white doll that starting taking on a yellow hue, then my plans for white doll might be messed up, if that makes sense.

That being said, I love white resin and I hope to have a doll with that color one day.

    2. I'm unlucky with tan skin. So either White (not paper white), pinkish, yellowish, real, peach or gray/blue/green/lavender, whatever x) just no more tan for me. I do love this color, but I cannot do faceup.
This is what I say now, but in the future... Dunno.

    3. All of my two dolls (well the second I just ordered but anyway) are normal skin. Quite boring but I like normal skintone for my dolls.

    4. My personal favourite is the "natural" or "normal" skin tone, but I have seen some beautiful dolls that swing either side of that colour range.

    5. I don't know about you guys, but I want to have a rainbow of resin in my house by the time I'm done! XD

    6. White! I love adding pink/blue pastel colors though.
      I guess I just love paleness :)

    7. My favourite skin colour is white. It is so pretty especially with long white hair and blue or green eyes!

    8. I tend to go with the natural pinkish skin tone. Pale white seems too artificial to me, usually, though they can be beautiful, and artists may feel this gives a better chance to customize the faceups or full-body repaints / dyes.

However, I'd like to see more BJD makers offer a range of skin tones, tans, pinkish tans, golds, browns, to cover a wider range of real human skin tones. Fantasy skin tones would be cool too. And what about freckles?

    9. I would chose the normal one

    10. My first (and currently only) doll has Dollzone white resin. She's SUPER pale which fits her character, she's a very fair skinned blonde. However the other two dolls I currently want are variations on brown - Iplehouse BID Erzulie in their light brown and EID Taregan in their gorgeous Ebony resin. I tend to enjoy contrast and extremes; very light and very dark resins.

After seeing Dollshe's new resin chips I wish they did more variety in sculpts. I want Taregan because he has quite afrocentric features and I like that for the character I want to shell... but Dollshe has a better range of dark resins. And they're gorgeous.

For those who haven't seen them yet:

Look at that range. They also have blue, green and three shades of grey.

I love tan and darker dolls partly because you see them so rarely. ultimately I wish more companies offered a greater variety of colours including natural tones and fantasy colours, even if you had to wait a little longer for the 'non standard' colours!

    11. Thanks, LittleTinyGems, I really appreciate the info.

    12. My only two dolls have white, and I enjoy the ethereal look they achieve with it. But I've seen some pretty nice "normal" and "tan" skin choices that I'll probably get in the future. I really like Dollshe's oriental skin tone, not to mention I've been stalking their David recently...

    13. i have... three dolls on order who have white, and i'm pretty sure sid is dz's normal yellow while olivia is doll leaves' normal. but i really, really want to get resinsoul's gang in coffee. he just looks like he'll suit it so gorgeously... the only issue is that i want to get him dikadoll hands, which'd be hard to match. ah well.

    14. Cetix - David is lovely. When I first saw him I wasn't really keen - the faceup on the company photographs don't appeal to me. But I recently saw him in a mid tan skintone (possibly the colour one to the right of the middle head on that last pic I think) and he really is lovely. With that nose of his in darker tones he reminds me a little of the sort of statuary of Ancient Egypt - like Akhenhaten almost!

BlueCatShip - Here's another pic for you guys. I mentioned they have a few other colours but I completely failed to find a photograph. Lo and behold there's one literally on the front page of their site! I really enjoy that blue, but god, those dark resins. Would love to see what they look like with a faceup!

EDIT: my image didn't work! blast it. here's a link instead.

    15. I am a sucker for IH lt brown and real skin but my recent order is Elin with normal skin. I wanted a more fragile little girl. She will be a great contrast with my lt brown Erzulie who serves as a boy or girl depending on my mood.

    16. I bought a LTF on eBay and she is WS and that is what I continue to buy. Have a LTF Bisou, WS and just bought a pet mouse for the girls who is also WS. I think WS photographs better too.

    17. I prefer normal skin tone. I dont like white and tanned skin. Toopink or too yellow I also dislike.
But actually it depends on the doll. I have nedver imagined Ill get myself a grey skin doll. And here he is, sitting on my shelf at home =)

    18. I love white skin so much! <3

    19. I love looking at all the different shades that companies have to offer but for right now I'm only planning on NS or tan dolls. All resin looks beautiful, but I just cannot imagine myself owning one of white or fantasy skin right now. White is too pale for what I was planning, and fantasy resins are just too different for the character. I'm sure my opinion will change in the future.

    20. I started out thinking I'd prefer NS or tan (at the time there weren't tons of tans available) but then my second doll was white resin, so that went out the window quickly! If money was no object I'd have lots more different colors. As of now I have mostly NS and white (easy to hybrid!) but also have one gray and am lately really into tan. I'm wanting a blue 27cm from Resinsoul eventually too.

I'm open to pretty much any color, if it fits the character. Oddly colored? Must be an elf or fairy!
