Your choice of skin color?

Jun 28, 2012

    1. When I first started this hobby I was only intersted in a white skin doll, but as time goes on I've learned to apprreciate and love all types of colors and shades. Tans, Grey, Dark tones I love them all! I have a need for almost every color!

    2. My preference is based on how I think that skintone will age. I envision myself being 80 and surrounded by these dolls and I wonder by myself: how will they look then?
So my first choice is always a very light tan. Not a real tan, but the sort of pale tan that can wear blond. Bimong/D-Storics Realskin, Planetdoll's tan, Elfdoll's Homme skin, skintones like that. My second preference is pink pale NS, after that the normal NS, and I try to avoid whiteskin dolls. I do love how WS looks but I have one doll now that needs to be WS because she is a hybrid (Narae/DC Alberta) and I stress over her colour. If she wasn't a hybrid I would swap her for a NS right away.

    3. I'm in love with white skin. I absolutely love that shade in dolls, on people.....pure white skin is just so beautiful and elegant to me.

    4. I love tans and dark resin (the doll that really blew me off my feet is the original ebony-skinned Iplehouse Benny), but my characters are all pale Celtic types :p. So I have ended up with four WS dolls and one NS pink one. My whites are all creamy whites. I love how white resin gives the doll something special; somehow I find that more pleasing than realism for my characters. They all have fairy blood, and the pallor makes them look a bit unearthly.

    5. Yellowed Volks Normal, especially oldskin!

But I soooo want a whiteskin girl someday to be my little Snow White.

    6. I tend to lean more towards the normal yellow tones, I think they tend to look nice even when they start to yellow a bit. But I'm not picky, I love the normal pinks and tans as well. :)

    7. My first bjd was a white skin SD (when I discovered bjds), I also owned a roxydoll lucy in tan.

Now I've a WS pukifee and I'm in love with grey skin. I love this color. I also like strange colors like green or blue. Absynthe - La fée verte for example from Soom, it's just amazing. :)

    8. I find tan to be the most attractive, but I only have two tan dolls at the moment. I just buy the skintone that best matches the doll's character most of the time. In the case of my one tan doll, his character is Hispanic. The other doll is Korean and I didn't know he was coming in tan, but I got used to it.

    9. I don't have a favorite - my dolls range from white to ivory to light-tan to several shades of deep tan. Everybody lives on shelves behind a drape during the day, so whatever discoloration they'll get with age should be kept to a minimum.

I do have a slight preponderance of Volks dolls, so a great many of them are Pureskin Normal (a creamy ivory that mellows beautifully with age).

I least prefer white resin, but for the white dolls I have, their sculpts just looked best in white (or weren't available elsewise)-- imps, demons, a merman, etc. Of course most of them are already yellowed a bit, but I don't mind, because they still look pretty good in all-black.

And the Iplehouse tan/Realskin population is rather huge. I don't have a single WS/NS Iplehouse doll; I'm too crazy about their tan resin, because it makes their male sculpts look more amazing.

    10. If I could have had it my way all my dolls based on OCs would be white resin
but unfortunately when I first discovered this hobby, "white" was very rare or LE.
My dolls based on OCs would all be white because their characters are all vampires
as opposed to the sculpts I own based on fan-art, which are all mostly based on "human"
(yet still fantasy characters). I'm happy to choose normal resin for my fan-art sculpts
because it fits the characters more than white or other colors would but if I ever make
a fan-art sculpt of a darker-skinned character, I'll probably go with a darker resin choice
as well; as long as it works for the character I don't mind what color it is. (:

    11. @JennyNemesis - Oh my god, I know. The Iple Light Brown resin is just the most beautiful thing ever. ;o; *hugs Isar* I lovelovelove Iplehouse's light brown resin!!! But my next Iplehouse doll will be peach gold, because it just looks so perfect. C: Won't be getting him for a while, though. Too broke.

    12. I think the skintone should fit the whims of the doll owner, whatever that may be. Given a choice, I'll go with a normal skin, and if there's normal-y or normal-p, I might choose the normal pink, because it ages the most gracefully. I like white, but I'm not a fan of the super yellowy cream whites.

    13. I really like to have a range of skin tones myself. I have 2 complete dolls and 1 floating head in white, 1 in natural, 1 in sky blue and 1 in green- and I have one that's supposed to arrive tomorrow that's NS-P. I'm also planning on getting another white and a light tan in the future, but it'll be a while before I'm able to afford them.

    14. I think white skin is my favorite, but I also like a variety of skin tones. It really depends on the doll sculpt as well. Although all of my dolls are fairly "normal" looking, there's a part of me that would love to have a green-skinned or blue-skinned fantasy doll someday.

    15. White skin all the way!! And FYI i'm latino. =) Seriously though, DOD normal skin (which its basically the only skin they have) mellows beautifully if careful with your doll's environment. I've heard so many stories of bad skins. I'm lucky I picked a company that has dolls with great skin that can mellow and not turn

    16. I went through a phase where I thought I wanted most of my dolls to be white skin, the paler the better. Then there were all the CP 'beauty green' dolls and I sort of got over it because I was afraid I couldn't keep white skin from yellowing. Nowadays most of my dolls are whatever their given company considers their "normal" resin, though there have been some white skin dolls in the ranks at different times. Really, I just consider whatever resin best suits my needs for a given doll.

    17. I prefer normal or tan. When a mold I love doesn't come in any other color (or the WS version is a super good deal on the MP) then I'll go for white. My favorite part about tan dolls is doing face ups on them. I feel like I can achieve a more exciting or realistic look that way. It's also much easier for me to achieve a subtle, natural look because most NS and WS are so pale that I have difficulty choosing colors light enough to not seem too dramatic on them.

    18. My favorite is white skin. I also love tans, but only if they're not orange.
I really dislike normal skin. Its too plasticky and cheap looking somehow. Every normal skin doll I've ever had Ive ended up dying tan just because I couldn't stand it:sweat

    19. Purple! I'm all about the fantasy skin colors, although my current collection is 4 "normal" pinks and one light tan. But looking forward, I want my doll family to be a literal rainbow of resin. :) <3

    20. I own many white or light skinned dolls but I don't really have a favourite skin colour. I also have grey, tan, pink and yellow skinned ones and I think that if the colour just matches the doll then everything's fine. ^^
