Your choice of skin color?

Jun 28, 2012

    1. A couple of times I have specifically wanted a white-skin doll, but my preference is normal skin. I've never really wanted a tan doll (or a blue, pink, etc. doll)

    2. I currently only have dolls in the 'normal' skintone which for the companies they're from is caucasian with a pink undertone. I'd love to own a tan-coloured doll sooner or later but I'm kind of worried about the discoloration. I don't mind a doll yellowing but I've heard most tan dolls turn to green when 'yellowing'. That would be such a shame on a beloved doll so I'm still not sure on the skin color of my future doll.

White skin dolls are beautiful and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one in the future if it suits a character of mine, same goes for fantasy-colored dolls.

    3. I have one with tan skin, 3 with normal skin and currently waiting for one with white skin. I'm probably least interested in fantasy skins... but never say never. ;)

    4. I prefer dolls with realistically-humanoid skin tones. The others are pretty, but not what I'm going for. Plus, between the light, tan, and dark tan/chocolate skins I've seen, I could easily replicate the diversity of real people given enough time and $$.

The fact that I don't have to worry as much about "will this color clash with the skintone" helps, too. :) Worrying about not clashing with hair is bad enough!

    5. i just painted mine with dry pastels. looks great!

    6. I prefer normal skin, but I also like tan (every shade of tan) <3 :3

    7. I love white skin better! eventhought it's easier turning yellow than normal skin. But for YOSD in volks, I don't have choice.haha

    8. I was thinking about it and it tonight and it hit me....with the exception of two of my dolls, one being white resin and another tan resin, all my dolls are normal yellow or normal pink. Reason this struck me is that that is close to my own skin tone. This has been unintentional, and seems to have been unconscious on my part. Has anybody else found themselves doing this, unconsciously sticking to a resin tone that matches their own skin?

    9. I own only "normal" skin type, exept for one doll in white skin, because almost all of my characters actually are caucasian. There's a few that aren't but I haven't shell them in doll form. And my white doll being a little weird fox, white is actually a good colour for fur while peachy skintones are not.
That said I would love to have dolls with more different skintones, mainly darker, to have more diversity !

    10. i think that the skin color thing is more so because of skin availability. tan and other colors are getting more common but back in the day it was rare. and then even the companies that did have em made some buyers a bit wary because of the infamous green that it could become.

Price may also have something to do with it too. unless ur absolute certai the character or aesthetic you want has to be tanned, brown, blue, green etc the extra price added may deter people.

I have a tan doll though (Luts KDF Ani) and I am not averse to getting more should the character fits even if I have to shop around more or pay a few more dollars because of the choice.

also since OP mentioned it, I am a brown person lol. but i dunno if that has factored into my decision? maybe it has subconsciously.

edit- also, my characters so far have all been chinese (one chinese and white), japanese and mexican

    11. i always own white skin tone dolls. Maybe because its a skin color ill nevr hav. Im more "normal skin tone person", and at the beginning i wasnt that interested in tan, because i cant play with colors in faceups that much. I choose white because its the best basis (? dont know im german excuse my language) for many colors, like white paper. Normal is way to pinki for my taste sometimes, white is just fairy like and kinda magic... But since maybe 2 months im really into tan.... theyre really pretty and i would like to hav som different skin tone ones in my family.... but havnt found a sculpt i would like in tan . Maybe in the future :3nodding:

    12. I prefer to have a variety of skin tones in my collection. Currently I have white, "normal," tan, and a doll on the way with ebony. This is on purpose for aesthetic reasons. My doll shelf looks more visually appealing to me with different colors on it.

    13. I really love paper white skin! I think it looks really neat. In real life I'm not pale at all so I really don't think it has anything to do with my skin color. I do have dark skin characters that I plan to make into dolls one day though!

    14. I do it more because very few companies make a nice rosy-tan/brown, so I usually end up getting pink skin. Not only that, but considering how much shipping ends up costing me, the extra price of tan tends to be tough to swallow.

    15. All my current dolls are normal pink or normal yellow so far, but I have been wanting a tan doll since a year or so.
I dislike white skin dolls because I find them difficult to photograph, and I'm not too fond of different-colored dolls because my characters are from a real world so that fantasy-skin tones are not very realistic.
So I think is all about the characters of the doll and personal taste, not so much related to my own skin.

    16. I totally agree with this, it depends on the character you want to create, and of course your personal taste. My favourite colours would be pale (not completely white, but maybe a pink or peach gold) for girls, and a a bit darker skin for boys. It depends on the wigs you want for them too. I don't know why, but the perfect couple I have in mind is a pale ginger girl, who would be from Ireland or similar, and a tan guy, maybe from Morocco or Brazil.
I've also seen a post in the galleries where there's this african woman, I would love to have a black girl too, but I'd like her to look realistic, so the sculpt should seem african aswell, not just the colour. Here's the post I'm talking about: The Dry Season

    17. I definitely have a preference for tan dolls! :) I think it's in part because I love having racial diversity among my characters, but also because much of my family has darker skin. When it comes to buying dolls I really only buy NS if it's the only option or if the pre-existing character is white. I'm such a sucker for warm tans!

    18. I prefer normal skin to white. It usually tends to photograph better, I think. I have never owned a tan doll yet, but I would love to get one eventually. I love the look and a few of my characters have darker skin. I would also love to have a fantasy color but I have no idea what I would do with it.

    19. Depends on the doll, but I've been loving fantasy colors and dark tans.

    20. I love white skins and all my dolls have it. I have always liked the look of very pale persons and white is one of my favourite colors so choosing from different skin colors was not hard to me. I have planned that one tan skin doll might be nice addition to my white group though.
