Your choice of skin color?

Jun 28, 2012

    1. My first and only girl (Souldoll Juana) I got in white skin, but now that I look around more I wished I had ordered her in the normal or event tan. I feel that the white can make her a bit tricky to photograph, especially when I haven't gotten her body blushed yet

    2. White skin is purely fascinating me. Because I am a big fan of those fantasy styled dolls and white leaves an impression of pureness.
The only bummer is how yellowing will always show up very clear on it :sigh

    3. I usually go for normal skin, because it's a nice balance between tan and white, lol. Probably not the best reasoning but I think normal is the "safe color".

    4. While I love the normal skin resin a bit more because it photographs well, I also love tan skin resin the best because many tan skin colors are very realistic. I also love tan skin resin because it mirrors my own skin color.

    5. I prefer tan and normal skin. I think being a person of color myself influences which skin colors I see as the most beautiful, those tend to be tanner skin tones.

    6. For me, sometimes it depends on the company's resin. For example, I love Doll Chateau's white resin. If I were to order a doll from them, it would have to be in white. But with Soom, I really like their tawny or normal skin and I am not a fan of their white resin. I especially love their grey. So it really just depends on the company and the character I have in mind.

    7. Depends on the concept. I'm a big fan of gray. I also like the normal and tan. I don't like white and normal yellow.

    8. It depends on the character- and their motif. I can't picture snow creatures (like the Snow Queen) being dark, and it's likewise very difficult for me to picture mermaids as being anything other than a realistic-looking tan. Human chars can be anything, but my idea of their looks won't change much- I don't know how to word it, but if I'm used to them being like mid-toned and with blue hair + pink eyes, then I can't really get used to them looking different. ("Display dolls" are different- sometimes I change them around, just for fun.)

Most of my resin bjds are animals, so they can come in all sorts of colors that we don't have.

    9. Normal Skin for me, but lately I am in love with Tan Skin just because it is so nice the color nowadays.

    10. So far, I've only had experience with white and normal, but geez would I love to lay my hands on a gentle tan or grey resin. As long as it fits the character, it's design and the entire concept, gimme gimme gimme.
I prefer to paint normal skin, though, because it simply feels the easiest xD

    11. I generally prefer normal skin dolls. That is mainly because I have an idea of how they will yellow and what to expect. I always get nervous with tan skin - Will it be more orange in person? Will it green? Will it be hard to find a face up artist for that particular shade of tan? - I overthink everything! That being said I do have a couple of tan dolls planned, and have owned a couple as well. Normal skin just seems to be the easiest for me to find and buy! ...And it is a bit cheaper too...

I also really had a soft spot for my grey doll. I thought the color was absolutely gorgeous!

    12. I usually prefer tan and normal skin dolls. My first doll is a light tan doll, but I have more normal skin dolls than tan ones on my wishlist.

    13. I like the normal skin dolls and the lighter tan range. White skin is very pretty for some characters, but nothing white I own ever stays white so I wouldn't choose it. I don't care for the white skin yellowing either. I would like some darker tan dolls but I don't know how I feel about painting them... I like being able to use a lighter palette. What I would like to see is that "golden" tan skin tone you see every once in awhile. Most of the existing tan resins are browner tones, beautiful I'd love to see more of a variety.

    14. I have only ever had normal skin bjds, but I can see myself getting into both the white skin and the tan skin because I've seen some really beautiful sculpts when they're completed. My only gripe with the latter two are the increased risk for discoloration and the necessity for heavier body blushing, etc. for them to look the way I want them to. In contrast, I've never had the desire for body blushing with normal skin bjds--it's just my preference, though.

    15. I think the company's names for skin colors are really strange and frankly a little racist...? I remember once they were calling brown skin "sunburned" :p

    16. Fantasy colors (my favs are the ones PeaksWoods offers for limiteds, and Soom colors) and tans/dark colors are my favorites! But there are a lot of sculpts I want that aren't available in any of those, so I settle for normal skin for those. I have yet to try dyeing, but I want to! Personally, colors that just really don't do it for me are white and grey.
Right now I have a an NS doll + 2 NS heads, an Iplehouse peach-gold (succhhhh a pretty color), a tan artist doll on layaway, and a Bobobie lilac girl I'm waiting to open on my birthday ;)

    17. I love having dolls in all sorts of skin tones, from pure white to the darkest tan out there. One of these days I'm going to find the perfect black skinned body for my Anubus head.
I even love the differences between one company's skin tones and another company's version of those skin tones, it adds to the variety.

Having fantasy skin colors just adds even more variety and fun.

Humanity comes in a wide palette of colors, shades, and tones, I love the beauty that I find in that diversity, so I love it in my dolls as well.

Lol, maybe it's an "IDIC" thing. <(^_~)>

    18. I got into the big recently for the want of a African doll. Love the dark tans and coffee colors but I'm falling in love with the fantasy colors grey and green. It will be a goal of mine to own one.

    19. I have been leaning toward tan skin followed by the normal skin. I did recently discover Atelier Momoni lavender pink and iced blue skin dolls, I love the colors but wonder how well they will age.

    20. Tan, violet or pale with red lips and black hair
