It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your country's currency value... does it dictate your buying habits?

Jan 31, 2014

    1. Yeah, a lot. My country now have awful exchange rate so it is very expensive to buy anything. In that case you must think about million times - do you really want something or not =D

    2. I'm from Canada too and it's like... the price says one thing but you just know it's going to be WAY more and it's super off putting. I mean, I could wait for it to go back up but who knows if it will, right? It's so sad and it makes me rethink purchasing a lot of things..

    3. Iplehouse's latest theme has me over a barrel. I might not have spent but the theme meets too many of my doll needs (pirates so 1800's-ish) I need the weapons and they are hard to come by for that era and the large size dolls. And too many of the outfits have pieces that are also for me hard to get. So for the rest of this series I am in debt (so to speak) to IH... But I am not buying any other companies stuff for now. Excluding a pair of Dollmore(sp?) weapons. And a complete steal of a deal at the local doll show for a Chaise lounger, which is era appropriate! ;p

I got nailed by my 'must have/need' list being almost totally filled all at once... and no I CAN'T wait as nearly all of it is LE >< At least it won't be a total mish-mash of stuff that doesn't look right together.

EDIT: Hi capirony ^^ don't be a stranger! I'm in the capitol btw...

    4. Definitely... Now that the value of the American Dollar keeps going up, I will be forced to shop locally for a while...
Who knows if the Dollar will ever go down anyway... Since the tendency is that it will keep getting stronger for who knows how long.
Great for Americans, not so great for the rest of us u3u'

    5. The currency exchange value wouldn't matter too much as I would still save money and buy a doll if I really wanted it.
Though for a while when the AUD value was high, it did feel good buying dolls and accessories with the better rate.

    6. Joining in with my fellow Canadians. I would say currency value does tend to make me wait for sales or look to the second hand market more. A ten percent sale means the price will be closer the USD price. Sometimes, if the Canadian dollar is stronger and there's something I want, the knowledge that my money will go further convinces me to buy the thing sooner rather than later.

    7. It has much influence. The Brazilian currency is seriously undervalued and has been in steady decline in the last year. One US dollar is costing us $2,50.

Which means that a product which is already expensive it becomes VERY expensive.
Having my desired Iplehouse Aria will cost me R$1.812,50.
And all this without thinking about the fact that it is very likely I pay taxes, which in Brazil is nearly 100%. Ultimately I have to spend R$3.625! I will have to keep my salary (university internship) for an entire year without spending a penny :(

    8. Buying from the U.S. Isn't great at the moment from australia :( the australian dollar is falling so it definitely dictates what I buy in regard to dolls

    9. It does in a way- I tend to aim to buy from companies overseas directly that ask for payment in their own currency to take advantage of the conversion rate. Sometimes the difference is negligible but at others I can save 30-40 dollars and I'm totally okay with that.

    10. Not generally, it depends on how big of a purchase im making. Though with dolls it always end up expensive. But i tend to look for deals abroad with better currency exchange. If its something i can't live without and its limited, i just grit my teeth...

    11. The exchange rate for USD/EUR is quite bad for a few months so I must admit I am more careful while buying BJD and stuffs for them. I try to refrain myself to buy expensive things listed in USD for now but I know the exchange rate could not be better later and maybe worth, but who knows ?
I had a though about Littlefee price from a few years ago and now, and I realize that a basic Littlefee would cost me about 40 EUR more now than a few years ago. (I don't want to think about larger BJD such as MSD and SD size...) It's significant when you combine multiple stuffs.

    12. I have to say yes. As many others stated before, the exchange rate for USD/EUR is a nightmare right now, so I haven't bought anything expensive lately T_T

    13. DEFINITELY! 1USD is like 45 PHP so it really affects a lot. This is so sad because I (often) get things through layaway and of course, not everyone can agree to installment plans. I mean, PHP used to be worst years ago (like 1 USD = 55 PHP) so at least it got lower.

    14. No, I wouldn't say it dictates my habits at all. At best, when the yen was weak I browsed YJ more, but I didn't see anything that caught my interest at the time so I never bought anything.

Currency fluctuates too much for me to spend around it. To me, it's all just a matter of buy now or save a bit longer because it's more expensive.

    15. YES IT DOES! -_- I'm in Australia and EVERYTHING i buy online is 99.9% of the time in USD. The conversion to AUD is not that great so it defiantly has an affect on what I buy and how much i spend....sigh

    16. so... as the person who started this some time ago I have come to the conclusion that for me and my 'current' buying wants it's not stopping me ><. My favorite company found my weakness and has been slamming me hard with limited items coming fast and w/o mercy. Since so much fits my doll theme/look I have been snapping up all the limited stuff I can get and putting of anything else I think I can get later. I have ended up with way more than I had imagined I would have by this point but I have managed to squeeze out the dollars when needed. I have done without the 'extra household' help AND the new 'tablet' I actually really could use. I had hoped to be able to (by myself) afford to replace the floor in a spare bathroom by now... but no go there (bit too big of cash outlay in one go ><). On the other hand... my 'depression' has been quite well managed, dolls and my learning to photograph them, has been the mental therapy I could never afford to pay for in this life time. I'm still stress to the max but I'm still happier.

The nutshell is I didn't let the craptastic exchange rate keep me from doing what makes me happy in the end. And with all that is wrong with my health and my life... the 'extra' expense has been worth it!

Now I am off to more nail biting stress... but happy in the end stress LOL... Hope the rest can work things out too. We all deserve to be happy in our hobby since I have come to realize there are a lot more out there like me who use this hobby as mental and emotional personal therapy... at least we are not drinking or doing drugs eh? ^^

just a side note... I do not spend on stuff I can't pay for... I make choices as to what I will or won't do without ... but I pay for all of it without going into debt that I can't pay off quickly.

    17. Sorry if this was created already. I haven't seen a thread like this.

I'm just wondering how other collectors feel about this? I live in Canada and right now currency conversion is terrible! I was pricing up an Iple girl I've wanted and after conversion she was over 1000 dollars in Canadian money. When in USD she was only like 700 something. So my question is is why is everything in the BJD hobby priced in USD? Do you think companies should maybe change their prices to yen? I don't think I could buy and BJDs for a while unless I find one I like on here or the currency equals up. I can only really buy other dolls that are priced in yen.

Also I'm not trying to come off as entitled or complaining. I know this an expensive hobby. I just want to see how others feel about it! :)

    18. I was thinking exactly the same thing earlier today! I live in Australia and the value of the Australian dollar has really dropped in the past year. I really want to order my next doll soon but she's going to cost me an extra $150 due to the conversion rate. I'm trying to decide whether I should wait to see if it improves or just count my losses and buy her now. It's a tough call to make.

I really wish more doll companies would allow you to choose your currency like some other online stores do. I can understand how that would be more work for them though.

    19. I believe some companies do charge in their own currency rather than USD.
For those that don't, have you tried asking? (Someone correct me if this is a bad idea >>; )

    20. I feel you! The us dollar value really seems to be shooting for the stars, but while most other currencies values seems to drop. I do think that you can ask for the price in cny/jpy/krw, as Temishi said, if you're buying directly from the company.
