1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your country's currency value... does it dictate your buying habits?

Jan 31, 2014

    1. Oh! Does it ever. Our Canadian has tanked again, and since pretty much everything bjd related comes from outside Canada it is pricey. At the moment our dollar is worth about 0.75 to the US dollar. So, there are a couple of dolls I've wanted to order I haven't in hopes our dollar will rally.

    2. HELL YES

I live in Canada and right now our dollar is so bad compared to the USD that we have to pay 30% extra on every purchase. Because of that, I have a lot of unfinished dolls or dolls that don't have the right wigs or clothes or eyes because I just can't justify it because of how much more it will cost me.

    3. Definitely my buying havits have changed with the sinking CAD! In the marketplace I message people with offers in CAD (haven't had a problem yet!) and I find that when other Canadians message me, they will also offer in CAD.

I will so things like, "maybe I'll wait until my next paycheque before this purchase, and if I'm meant to have it, it will still be there" ... I do this anyways but it's more previlant right now.

    4. i like the idea of asking to pay in CAD... because when you use Paypal the fees assosiated with currency conversion are definitely higher (I actually confirmed this with my bank in person... the guy was actually surprised but not?). So ya I should start doing that... just look up the rate pay that in CAD .... might save me a few pennies ... which are getting to be important

    5. As another Canadian, yes!!!!! The Canadian dollar is brutal! I have to plan carefully, because it'll seem like such a good deal until you factor in both the change and fee T^T

    6. I love how we are all Canadians on this current page. CAD... why are you so terrible? I am intending to buy a doll (discount ends this month) but needing to cough out extra $200 CAD to cover the exchange is so painful. I'm gonna pray that it will improve, even just by a little soon! *Cry*

    7. Be grateful we are not Australian >< their dollar is worse... (is dealing with an Ausie atm lol)

and many who might have a better dollar get nailed with customs fees that level out the board?

    8. Yes of course
the rate of the canadian dollars has a major effect on my purchase
      it's really crazy
price of dolls are already high and when you convert in CAD : it's just crazy
even for little things (shoes, wig) ; I think twice before buying :(

    9. wow, I see a lot of Canadians here post regarding our dying dollar. Normally I have a tendency of buying less when the CND is week, but when it comes to some doll stuff (specially back hunting released items), when you run into it, you jump on it regardless of exchange. I personally have been hunting a VOLKS Tae head for a while now, and the longer I look, the higher their price goes, and the worst the CND is doing... so today, I finally found a private sale for a reasonable price and jumped on it. Compared to earlier this year, i paid easily 30% more today :...(

    10. With the dollar being so strong against the yen right now, it's cheaper to buy from Volks international than Volks usa right now- even including EMS shipping! So yes, I've been buying from a lot of Japanese sellers right now, like Mandarake and the before mentioned Volks international.

    11. The dollar was always (as far as I can remember) stronger than the Brazilian Real, but right now you basically need 4 reais for every dollar, which is... quite painful to say the least. My job pays me in dollars so there's that, but when things arrive I still have to pay a fortune in taxes in my currency based on the dollar to real rate. Welp.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll be here in my corner cursing the Brazilian government.

    12. Living in the US, I hate buying British because of the 1.5 exchange rate. As long as I have been shopping online, I have never seen the pound drop in value beyond a small fraction. I think the Euro is a little bit more even, but I'm usually hesitant when I come across a sales ad that only has a price in euros or pounds. If it's something small like fabric or shoes, I'll usually bite, but it is almost always an absolute no when it comes to dolls. It sucks because some of the nicest dolls I've seen come from France or Britain. Blah.

    13. Exchange rates have never dictated what I buy, but they do influence it... For awhile there, while the JPY-to-USD conversion was unusually poor, I didn't buy much from Volks, Closet Child, Y!J or Mandarake, for instance. I still bought a few things from Japan, sure, but nothing like what I might have purchased had the exchange rate been more favorable. I ended up doing more of my doll shopping with Korean and Chinese companies at the time because my dollar went farther with them.

These days? The conversion is kinder and Japanese shops have become fun again. ^_^

    14. It does "dictate" in some measure but heavy customs charges do affect my choices.
