Your dolls and posing (or lack thereof)

Apr 16, 2014

    1. My tinies pose very well until I move away and I am poised behind my camera. (I have seen quite a few face plants through the lens!)

    2. I haven't really tried to pose my doll much, so I don't know how he performs with the more complex poses. I know posing abilities are a big deal to a lot of people, but I really don't need a doll to be super good at posing , I do need the doll to look natural in the poses it can do. I only have one BJD and he can do the basic poses well enough, and he stands and sits solid right out of the box :)

    3. My worst poser is also the best at standing XD
The problem is that he has a design flaw, his akles and wrists are too narrow for his hands and feet to move. This means his arms are pretty much useless (he's also single jointed) but he's a great stander because his ankles stay straight. I'm planning to get his wrists fixed but I will leave his ankles, his standing ability is really something.
That said I don't really pose my dolls much.

    4. My one and only doll had a very awful posing body, but after a big modification she stands and pose beautifully.

    5. Obitsu 60cm - she is not the best poser in the group but is quite good. Since she broke her knee and it was replaced with old floppy one her standing abilities decreased significantly but even so if I put in some work, she manages to stand on her own.

Obitsu 50cm & 40cm - the best posers in the family. Both girls often are left standing unattended for days and nothing happens to them. I was very surprised when it turned out taht 40cm one can stand on a big tree branch completely unsupported and be totally fine. Plus not only she can stand fine by herself but also support my less fortunate Iplehouse girl. Both bodies are true miracles.

Iplehouse JID girl - so far the worst poser. She was wired by my friend but I'm not sure if helped or made mattes worse. Her legs don't flop around like they did before but it seems it became harder to make her stand. Though standing on high heels feet while wearing high heels seems to work better than with normal feet. She also dislikes siting and tends to just fall back. She seems to prefer sleeping position... But she's got the cutest face in the family, so I can't be angry at her.

Illusion Spirit - he is a newer version ~61cm I believe. Best known for his majestic posing abilities. He just decides on poses by himself and that helps since I'm so uncreative. He also stands very well and it takes little effort to make him stand. I'm very satisfied.

Fairyland MiniFee - I got her today and she poses like a charm! :D I love how well she holds poses and I made her stand on my first try and then she even manged to stand on a bed without any support!

    6. I have a trick to 'help' sitting...
by DoA Tiku, on Flickr <-- note this is not the same as my usual account... (that one is "DoA Lady Tiku")
by placing the hook outside like that it helps keep her from flopping back.. you may have to rotate the thigh a bit to get the hook placed to hold her... and yes JID's suck for posing/standing... but they some times do... I've got my Jessica to balance unsuported a few times (her folder from the signature link shows it). And ya for some weird reason JID's seem to do 'better' while in shoes in heel feet O_o

    7. Honestly, the best posers I've had right out of the gate, were my MiniFee and Tumnus - neither of which needed restringing or sueding at all. My AoD Qi needed sueding before she'd pose properly (and she still needs tightened). My DZ Hal usually poses pretty well, but he'd been solidly protesting the pants I got him recently, so I may have to make him something that doesn't limit his lower body mobility so much. He could use some sueding, too. My Mega Gem body gets odd.. I don't know what the story is there, but the legs in particular can give me a lot of grief. I need to wire him. Though the sueding did wooorrllddssss of good. My Spirit Doll Elegance poses pretty well, but I think her elastic needs tightened. Also sueding. Most of them are pretty stable. It's just me being finicky and wanting them to be able to hold positions just so. xD; I'll get better at making them more pose-able eventually!

    8. Caffeinemancer (love your username by the way) my Tumnus also posed really well right out of the box. My other 5Star dolls are the same.
My friend's Iplehouse BID is also a good poser and "locks" into position for sitting, standing, etc.

My worse poser is my Miro Doll 62cm girl Mika. She is a nightmare. I've restrung, wired and sueded her many times to try to get her to hold ANY position, but she just collapses in a heap no matter what I do. I finally had to get drastic and hot glue her torso (3-piece torso) together so it is only one piece. She will sit if she is leaning against something now. It's the best I can do with her.
Of course now that I've hot glued her so drastically, I can never sell her. I'm stuck with her for better or worse (mostly worse sadly). I still love her face, but from the neck down she is a total mess.

    9. Luckily, both my Dreaming Doll Ryuna and my JID Sierra (Iplehouse) pose very well.
My Dreaming Doll was strung too tight, so I had to pay for a restringing. My Sierra, on the other hand, was strung a bit too loose for me. She could stand and stuff, but her legs kinda dangled (lol). I don't think I want to restring her.. I feel like she's strung enough for her to do what I want her to do. Her arms pose is EVERY position (definitely like my Dreaming Doll).
Dreaming Doll does an amazing job with the dolls' pose ability. They are strung very well (too well in my situation) which helps them to stand on their own and their arms pose in EVERY position as well.

I would like to think that I have been lucky so far with my doll purchases.

    10. duplicate post

    11. MadMisery I also have a Dreaming Doll (MSD Misora) and she really holds her poses well. Because of my positive experience with both 5Star and DreamingDoll, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from those companies again.

I've read that Iple ships their dolls loosely strung on purpose, so that the doll's joints won't be damaged during shipping. So a little tightening of strings is expected with their dolls. My friend's BID Coco was a teensy bit loose in the legs, so I had to do a tightening (just moved the knot a centimeter) and it was fine. Regretfully Iplehouse BIDs are constructed differently from other dolls that size, so I had to take the legs completely apart in order to do a minor tightening, but when I was finished it posed perfectly.

    12. All my dolls have varying degrees of poseability. With that said:

Dollshe Craft Amanda Beauty poses incredibly well, like a dream even. I believe she poses well straight-out-of-the-box due to the silicone packing Dollshe uses at their doll's joints. The tension on the sting is neither loose nor tight, so it really helps.

Impldoll Azalea, Gela, Teno, Moon, and John can truly pose well for being mid-priced dolls. the tension string is sometimes a tiny bit on the loose end, but I don't have any trouble posing my Impldoll bjd's. Azalea in particular can sit straight up which I really love because I have trouble with my old style EID Aurora - but unfortunately, her long legs lock back into position whenever I try to pose her with her legs slightly apart. I have to confess that it really annoys me sometimes.

RingDoll Kirin is finicky when posing. I've toyed with his elastic many times, and though he can stand like a sentinel, he always smacks himself on the face. His arms don't pose very well, but it's a slight inconvenience.

Iplehouse EID Aurora can achieve a fair range of poses, but its old, single jointed, EID body is limited in many, many ways. My Iplehouse BID Elin poses wonderfully. Her small body can hold a variety of poses, so I often take a lot of pictures of her.

ResinSoul Feng poses surprisingly well for being on the low end price range. When I first bought him, his elastic was way too loose, but when I tightened his elastic, I was surprised by how well he can pose.

    13. I have an RSdoll New Evan and he poses okay, but the only thing I don't like is the fact that his head doesn't turn all the way like a human's would. >n< It's a little troublesome when I want certain poses.

    14. I have two dolls that I'm not a fan of posing- my Shiny Fairy May and my TF Jasmine with the Neo body! May isn't that hard to pose, but her legs are a little loose and she can't stand up. I think some sueding will fix that.

My Jasmine, however, I HATE her joints. It's very hard to get her to look natural in a pose. I know most people prefer double joints but I'm not a fan with a few exceptions. I prefer a single jointed doll with a gorgeous, stable body to a double jointed, finicky doll any day. The only exception is my Littlefee- you can't even see her double joints and she's such a good poser! I do have an SDC (yay!) coming soon though, and from what I've seen they have lovely bodies despite the double-jointed arms. It all depends on the doll.

In all honesty my AR girl is my favorite to pose. Her single joints+ sueding make her incredible stable and she's so elegant.

    15. My kid delf is strung too tightly i think so she is always kicky, she hold her pose for a couple seconds and then she arches her back or kicks her legs.. And she is in a multi body which are supposed to be better posers...i guess she could be fixed by restring but i am too chicken to attempt to do it on my own

    16. Nadeko's posing abilities (or lack thereof) has never been a concern for me.
She's single-jointed so she can't touch her face or sit on her knees or do anything fancy but she can do simple poses decently well, stands solidly and sits well and that's all I really want from her.

    17. I need to restring all my Dolls they really aren't good at standing or posing. I'm scared because its doll chateau though. It seems like the tinies with extra joints from DC do sit well but my kid centaur doesn't do anything. She acts up, a lot almost can't do anything with her and sueding did not help. Ah, so Stressful.

    18. My Dollzone Hid on the very old single joint body is a decent poser. Stands and sits well unaided etc. However I do want something a bit more solid with better range so I'm waiting on a new double jointed body for him.

My fairly old double jointed Dollzone girl MSD body is solid as a rock... when strung correctly. Seriously, I restrung her and now her torso won't stay 'up'. She flops everywhere. I don't know what I did wrong.

My Resinsoul Long on the 70cm body is a nightmare. Restringing didn't help. Thicker elastic doesn't fit in his joints. He needs something to lean against just to sit up and standing him is like trying to sit on a tiger. His head is definitely going on a better body when I have the money for it.

My Dollzone 65cm boy is amazing. He can hold up two MSDs on his shoulders. Definitely the most solid, heaviest and best poser I have. I really have no idea why they discontinued it.

My DollChateau 70cm body is a really elegant poser. Much lighter and less sturdy than the Dollzone, but stands well unaided, can hold a variety of poses and just looks really natural whilst doing it.

The Obitsu 60cm girl body has been a dream for me. Excellent poser, really couldn't ask for more.

I'm still waiting on my Fairyland Minifee but I hear they're quite good posers as well.

    19. I have a variety of dolls.

My Leeke Sweet is on the gentle flat body, and it's a terrible poser. She can stand, and any position that locks the joints is fine, but she can't do much else. I'm sure restringing and sueding would help, though. She's been kinda loose from day one.

My Kid Delf on the multi body suuuuuuuucks. She's strung so tightly that she can barely move. She can stand beautifully, but she can't sit or do much else. I need to order string so I can restring her. I have to keep her on a doll stand.

My Leeke Noella is on an Impldoll body. It came strung so tightly that to take her head off, I have to have my sister hold the body below me so I can get leverage. She's a solid stander, though.

My Delf Miyu came to me super floppy. I restrung her and sueded her joints. Unfortunately, the string I used is way too heavy and she's barely able to turn her head! The Leeke SD maintenance kit that DDE sells includes REALLY thick string. I need to restring her again. She's so tight that I'm worried the resin will warp. She stands very well and sueding helped with arm and leg posing, and she sits like a champ now.

My MNF was a tad floppy out of the box, but she still poses very well. I've had her on one foot on my desk barefoot. Minifees are known for their good posing, though.

    20. The only doll I have ever had problems posing is my Feeple65 Siean doll name Lilith. She doesn't like to sit up on her own at all. I have found ways of stuffing the hip sockets with cotton balls to help with this problem. Her head is a bit clicky when moving it around. I love her sculpt and everything else about her. I am currently shopping to find her a different body to use for photography.
