Your dolls and their eyebrows

Apr 2, 2007

    1. I'm with Baakay about drawing my own... I *always* have trouble making the second brow match. Although I went and studdied my eyebrows in a mirror after I decided that Waif's second brow would just have to do, and realized that they're not perfectly symmetrical either.

Overall, I prefer a more natural look, but I think it's more important to match the rest of the face-up. If the rest of the face-up is very stylized, then natural brows look kind of weird, and vice versa.

    2. My girl now has a bright, happy "Hay guyz, wut's goin on??/" expression, thanks to her new eyebrows XD

My boy has thin, plucked eyebrows like a silent movie actress. >__> You can't see them, though, since his bangs cover them.

    3. I love nice, thick eyebrows on my guys. ^-^ I like them being very realistic, and very detailed. Little anime-looking eyebrows just don't do it for me at all. :\
On my girls--I still like them on the thicker side. (Think Audrey Hepburn! Those are my ideal girl brows! <3)

    4. I've always been a fan of thin manga-esque eyebrows, but on dolls realistic ones just look nicer. ^^

    5. Whenever I commision a faceup, I always ask that the artist start with the eyebrow shape since I am so obsessed with them. I like them natural for my dolls, medium thick on girls, thick on boys. And with a arch. I think I am so picky about eyebrows since they are the only major feature on the doll that is no dictated by the sculpt. They can convey so much emotion on an otherwise immobile face. I think the wrong eyebrows can make a doll look like nobody's home.
On the other hand, I also like manga pencil thin eyebrows on manga like faceups, and straight angled brows for vampires or villians. Its all based on what you are going for and doing it well. I just collect more natural looking dolls.

    6. I gave my girl kind of sad pouty eyebrows~

But I agree with fitz said ^^ Eyebrows are the most expressive part of the doll, and can change their entire personality.

    7. Yeah! Great eyebrows! I have to say, this bjd looks like a male. I doubt anyone would mistake him for a girl.:aheartbea :aheartbea

    8. I like natural eyebrows! I did Ed's and I just kind of went with whatever fit him... I might redo them though, they're a little GIRL!brow.

    9. I like them to look realistic and kind of thin on my girls. Not too too thin, but not super thick, and just realistic looking. I'm not to fond of the luts "Mr Spock eyebrows".

As for boys, I don't have any boy dolls right now, but I like the boys to have thicker eyebrows, and realistic looking. Much like hiritai's Vin. *yum*

    10. I think it all depends on the doll and the character they are.

    11. all this eyebrow talk reminds me of Furi Kuri :D

    12. In my opinion, I find that it really doesn't matter the shape - I think that different shapes work for different dolls/characters. I tend to lean towards a very clean, natural look. The most imperative thing is that you can see individual strands. I like teh feathery-ness. ^^;

    13. I think that I prefer the more realistic eyebrows, but they are so difficult to do! I like the softer and more detailed look it gives to the face.

    14. I prefer more natural eyebrows. On people and dolls. Thin, dark, super arched or super straight eyebrows don't really suit anyone except for someone who's supposed to look scary and evil :eusa_sile That's not to say that everyone should let their eyebrows grow wild! I think it looks best when the eyebrows are left in their natural shape and just have the edges cleaned up a bit. For my own eyebrows, I only pluck the stray hairs, then I trim the rest to keep them clean looking.

So yeah. Thickish, natural, but kept clean and trimmed. It's the best look for anyone.

(morgan is not an example of good eyebrows *cough* *luts >_>* *cough* I'm going to redo his :| )

    15. I like Realistic eyebrows. Not too thick or too curved. :D

    16. I pretty much agree with you. But Kyler has sorta thick short baby eye brows, which I'm ok with since she IS just a baby after all.

    17. Thick eyebrows. Totally.
I actually am somewhat obsessed with the thickness of eyebrows (I thicken mine with a black eyeliner pencil even!) and as I am with people I am with dolls.
My girl has kinda thin brows, but they're rarely seen and she's rather young. My boy's are thicker, but if I ever get him a new faceup, as with all future ones, they'll be on the thicker side.

    18. I prefer soft, arched eyebrows that follow the upper curve of the doll's eye socket. I also prefer that the eyebrows be slightly thicker near the center of the face and taper outward. To my eye, that's the most "natural" look.

    19. Shape depends greatly on the character and sculpt, but I do need high detail and many little hairs in there to be happy. I did my Leeke Edgar's face and her eyebrows need work, so they're basically simple line arches with a few colorpencil hairs added. I'm about to redo my Migidoll Jina's face now that I have a little more experience, and I'm excited to work on her eyebrows. She's getting a little bit of a "come on, shut up," expression, so the shape isn't necessarily going to perfectly follow the shape of her sculpt. This is what she had before I wiped her, and I want to do them very similar, just in a different hair color and a bit heavier:

That is the face up that sold me on her, but it got chipped and needs to be redone. But basically since I've been rambling, I'll wrap it back up to- shape depends, but I need high detail.

I just brought home and itty bitty baby yoSD from Volks and he had lovely little eyebrows. Usually, default face ups from Volks can terrify me because they tend to lean to the anime/manga brow, which is the last thing I want on my doll, but my Kakeru was wonderful!

If I wanted to find something to complain about, I'd say I didn't like how they were so much lighter at the center than the taper, but I think it suits his sculpt and I can't argue with the detail.

    20. You statement in combination with your avatar makes me lol hard. XD

I tend to prefer neatly shaped eyebrows, not too thick, but not mangaesque thin either. I've also got two dolls that I don't mind keeping without eyebrows. Their faces just have so much inbuilt personality, eyebrows are not required. :D
