Your dolls and their eyebrows

Apr 2, 2007

    1. Depends on the doll. My delfs have the older Luts-style ones; thin, pointy and in their cases made to make them look mean. My dollshes, my Sabik, they get more realistic brows; not bushy, as such, just much more realistic. I admire the painting works of artists such as sDink, Christy, Lynr [is that the username?].

I don't even know what to say about my Kamau; he has the default face-up for the dark skinned ones, but I think they went abit happy with the eyeshadow, gloss and above all; 'perfectly' shaped, like they'd been threaded or whatever the term is, eyebrows.

Different sculpts for different styles was my original train of thought here.

    2. You know Tsumugi in K-On! ? Cute girls with nice thick eyebrows are <3.

    3. I like realistic eyebrows. Not terrible-caterpillars-on-you-face bushy, but not over-plucked either, somewhere in the middle, and just a tiny bit thicker for my boys than my girls. I had a boy who came to me with the default Luts face-up and while I loved everything else, I absolutely HATED the eyebrows, so off to Poppy he went.

    4. I prefer stylized eyebrows. It's funny, but eyebrows are the one part of a faceup I seldom have trouble with. I can spend DAYS getting the eyes right and hours on the lips. Eyebrows? Easy-peasy, at least for me.

    5. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate thick, bushy eyebrows on dolls. And people in general. It's the one thing I don't particularly care for on my Maki girl, and her faceup is insanely well done. She just has thicker eyebrows and I wish they weren't that way. Also, they need to match the doll's hair colour or they're coming off.

I'm really picky about eyebrows and usually pick my faceup artists first based around how well they do them and if they do them in the style I like, which is generally more stylized, thin, and usually arched. I'm not a fan of the neutral eyebrow expression.

    6. I prefer realistic looking brows, with either that slight feather stroke effect or like well shaped smudges, always in black to grey, I can spend a long time just admiring the skill of well done eyebrows. I'm really fussy about bjd eyebrows I don't like very thick hairy brows or pencil thin and overly arched ones that look too "made up". The colour and shape are very important to me, I think the rules of painting a good, natural face-up follow the rules of applying make up to your own face; that means no Dr. Spock, Hagrid or Anna-Marie "Botox" Lagerblom horror brows!

    7. I tried to give my girl eyebrows, but they came out horrible. There is a lady in my area who said she'd help me out. But i'll probably have to pay her. ^^;;

    8. I like whichever style of eyebrow suits the face it's intended for. Sometimes I want stylized painterly brows, other times I want ones that look like they're actually made of hair.

I had so much fun painting thick Greek power-brows on my Tan Mano-- they were exactly what he needed to become himself.

But I also love the crazy, artsy, Barbie-styled, silver-and-blue pearly layered paintjob that Soom did on my 'Last Song' edition Vega, because they're the perfect brows for a far out fantasy merman.

    9. I love this thread. Like about all the other features of my BJD, they are the two of my own creation or they are the ten which come from One Piece manga and anime series I have, I like and go for what better fits their characters, so do I also about their eyebrows. That is the line I follow.

For example, an small close shot of one of the most curious eyebrows among my resin crew:

    10. Agreed. : D so cute! ... but I prefer thinner eyebrows on my dolls xD

At first I didn't like the intense eyebrows that came with the default faceup on my Luts Kid Bory... but now I can't stop staring at them... ;; (Also, eyebrows are damn tricky to shape and position, at least for me...)

Misato, those are some NICE eyebrows!! *envious*

    11. Eyebrows are the bane of my existence :|. I'm actually learning how to do face-ups for when my baby comes in and besides everything else I feel the eyebrows really are the most important. I'm finding however that when I look at different doll sites to get idea's that I'm also drawn to the more realistic looking eyebrows. Don't get me wrong I think the straight angular ones likes Lutz dolls have are really nice too but it's those realistic sort that really get to me. That's why I'm trying to mimic that style as best I can.

    12. OMG I absolutely love your dolls eyebrows! I completely agree the eyebrows really are the most expressive feature on a dolls face. I'm always amazed at how those twin lines can somehow change with whatever the dolls feeling even when you know they haven't moved.

    13. I think shape-wise, it very much depends on the doll. But I like them realistic and detailed. Not sure how I'm going to manage that, but I'll see XD

    14. I like eyebrows to be feathery and natural looking and to give a sort of neutral, slightly determined or content expression.
One thing I really dislike are / \ shaped eyebrows. I think it bothers me because it makes the doll look sad and that's not the type of expression I like my dolls to have.

    15. I love realistic eyebrows best! On girls I prefer them to be lighter and not very angular, and on guys I them strong and angular. I've seen videos of people painting eyebrows on face-ups...I'm nervous about being able to keep my hand still enough to do this when my Gretel comes. Will probably resort to watercolor pencils...

    16. I had the hardest time making my boy's eyebrows both the same! I want to do a new face on him soon but, that is one part of it I am afraid to redo. Since his hair is black I made the eyebrows natural and dark, I used watercolor pencil. Maybe I should make a stencil for next time?

    17. I find I prefer more realistic, or less uniform eyebrows, I very much dislike Luts style eyebrows, where each line is obviously individual and parallel with each other to a certain extent. I'm trying to figure out how to do bushier eyebrows for my males, but that's so many hairs to paint. X3

    18. I like two kinds of eyebrows - one is the realistic and natural looking. It can be thick for boys, more plucked-looking for girls (but no pencil-thin, I hate that even on people). This is the style I'm usually doing (trying to do) for my own dolls.

But I also love-love-love the very artistic brows...when each long hair looks like it's painted to look individual, when they form perfect little triangles at the front and dip in the middle (like an angry/sad brow)...I love looking at them. They are less realistic to me, but I really admire the sheer artist-mind behind them.

    19. I really like realistic looking eyebrows. Unfortunately they're really hard for me to paint, so my doll's eyebrows look weird. I like the eyebrows to be thin too.

    20. I like realistic eyebrows on most of my dolls, but on some of them I absolutely LOVE the kind of little... cat eyebrows. (I have no idea what they would be called) Like the ones that the Kusuri-uri from Mononoke has X'D I think they're absolutely adorable.
