1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your highest number of layaways at one time?

Nov 18, 2015

    1. I apologize if this has been asked before. I combed through the forum and didn't see anything recently.

    2. I've never had more than one... but then, I'm one of those impatient types who'd much rather stash away money regularly so that I have the funds to just buy a doll outright when I want one rather than doing some long, drawn-out layaway in the first place. Having an unpaid layaway just bugs me, so I try to avoid them.

    3. only ever 1 at a time... I don't like layaways hanging over my head so usually I'll just buy outright

    4. I hate to admit it but I had three running at one point. I have now paid everything off and I am trying to behave but it is difficult, there are so many tempting dolls.
I only managed to cope with them because I did a lot of overtime hours at work to make sure I could pay them off and slightly ahead of schedule but wouldn't recommend it, the stress was not good.

    5. I only have one doll here and one on the way but both had separate layaways. I don't like having more than one to worry about at any given time and if possible prefer to pay off the entire doll at once. With my first one I paid over two months, and my second one I paid for her fully over the course of a week, I only asked for a layaway to hold her while I was waiting for my company to pay me. In the future if I ever buy more than one doll in a short amount of time I'll be sure one is fully paid before I buy the other one, I'd rather not get into too many layaways and accidentally spend more money than I can afford to.

    6. Realistically, two at a time (staggered payment dates with two weeks appart). Technically, I had three overlap, but only for one month.

    7. I had two going at once and won't do it again. I have them both paid off now and am still waiting for the dolls. I felt like I was over extending myself (not financially), but by ordering two dolls so close to each other.

    8. I had two layaways at the same time once. I could afford it, but I wouldn't do it for any other reason besides two limiteds that came up one after another that I couldn't plan for.

    9. I had two at once, one time, recently, because both were limiteds that suited my collection perfectly, and I could only afford to drop a full payment at the time on one or the other; to get both, I had to do a layaway on both, and ended up paying both off at the same time. I knew I'd be able to pay both off in a short period of time (less than the layaway term on one, and roughly the full term on the other), so I was comfortable doing it, but in general I'd prefer to not buy that way.

Though, in general, I prefer to avoid layaway anyway, unless it's a doll that will "get away" otherwise (limiteds, and one that I realized was about to be discontinued).

    10. I think...three. Maybe four.

If I have a layaway with an individual secondhand seller, I'll only have one at a time and pay them off as fast as I possibly can. If it's with a dealer, like Mint on Card, I would do more when I had a steady income. It was usually not that I couldn't afford to pay them off quickly, but if the wait time was six months, there's no reason to pay in full, when I could be spreading it out and not have a huge chunk gone all at once. Also convenient if several dolls I want are being discontinued and I can't buy them all straight out at one time.

    11. I told myself never to do more than one layaway at a time... and I was very good about that for YEARS. But I've been into bjds for over 10 years now and got weak this year!

I had 5 on layaway and bought one straight out during one month... agh!

I was SO BAD! Layaways tempt me to buy more dolls, since they make them SEEM more affordable...

    12. Oooooo, layaways are not something I really like to do. I did it once on a Doll Chateau body I ordered from Denver Doll - took 9 months for DC to ship! I paid 1/3 down but wondered if I was ever going to actually get it! I also don't like preorders that you have to pay in full and wait 4-5 months, but when it's a new sculpt preorder I can understand that they don't make them until they have enough orders. There's several I wish in hindsight I had done. I worry and fret too much about something happening and I won't be able to pay it off so I usually don't do layaways. In my opinion, I think it's too easy to get out of control and in debt really fast!

    13. Three. I've been doing the Twigling 'longest preorder' since Jan-Feb. I hardly notice that one since the payments are so small. I ordered a body from MoC from DZ. They take, like, 6 months to finish a doll so the monthly payments just make me more patient. I can't quite explain it but it works. Then I'm doing a quick one through Dollshe (just spread out over the month). That's done in a week.

    14. Three. :I Right now actually lol. Plus I just paid off a FL secondhand fullset and doll.

      /Obsessed.

    15. That is exactly my MO! I don't feel a wait until the doll is paid off. I also tend to have my first payment be more substantial, so the monthly payments are $40-$60.

    16. just one.
personally I'm not a big fan of the idea of owing money for a bunch of different things, at the same time
also I really mostly order on layaway for the same reason that a couple of others have mentioned, and that's because if I'm already going to be waiting x number of months then spreading the payment out into multiple payments tends to make me a little less antsy.

    17. I've balanced two, because I have one really long one for a grail. I pay a little every two paydays for him. This means, if I wanted to do a layaway payment on the other payday, I could, his layaway overlapped a bit with my withdoll layaway for Adriana. I'm going to pay in full for my next doll (or body. There's a dollzone body I need.)

    18. Three... I'll never do this again and i wouldn't advice it. It's stressfull and hard to balance... But I had no other choice...

    19. I don't find it too stressful or hard to deal with layaways. I somewhat prefer them. I agree that it does make me a little more patient even though I'm not patient at all. I seem to have fallen for mostly Soom dolls and since they are all limited.. I usually have to do layaway instead of save since they release them often and the order periods are so short. I think I had 4 layaways at once just recently. All were paid off early and I believe 2 were paid off a month early.

I wouldn't recommend layaways for someone who isn't good at budgeting or planning.

I also do suppose that if I didn't have so many layaways I could pay more dolls off in full faster, but I am okay with the system I have. I currently have 3 girls on layaway now, actually. I guess in a way I feel like spending a bit each month or so is better than spending the full amount in case I need a financial cushion if something happens in any other part of my life. Like always keeping a little in reserve. The layaway period also gives me lots of doll planning time so I can figure out what wigs, eyes, clothes, or what I want for the incoming doll(s).
