Your last / final doll

Jun 7, 2013

    1. Ohh, finishing the doll-collection forever is the easiest thing in the world. I've done it a thousand times.

    2. Ladies and gentlemen, the fabulous Miss Bankhead has spoken.

I feel pretty well maxed out on dolls, but if I did splash out on an official Last Doll, I'd want something bizarre and arty, like a Doll Chateau Christina.

    3. Idrisfynn pretty much summed up how I suspect things will go for me ... I'm only just getting started (still in my first year) so I'm having a hard time imagining what it will be like to be "done". Most likely I'll run out of space at some point and will reach an (at least temporary) stop ... but I can't imagine thinking "this is it". Either I'm still interested in dolls per se and it will probably go as Idrisfynn said, or I'll lose interest and maybe even sell a few of my dolls and only keep the ones dearest to me.

    4. Too true (and funny :sumomo:) and there is always "this very last" dream one showing up on the horizon.

    5. I would bring a fullset SD17 Hijikata home- and go out with a bang!!

    6. I've had very specific ideas for my collection since the beginning, and had a whole plan laid out before I bought my first doll. Admittedly, after about three and a half years, those plans definitely went through a few revisions, but in the end my initial concept is still very similar to what I first had in mind. So for me, I saw an end coming before I even started, and I can already see the end to my 'doll-collecting' phase. Luckily, once I have all the dolls I want, I'll be able to quickly move on to the 'doll-spoiling' phase, which I'm sure will be even more fun than collecting the dolls themselves!

I've been really craving the feeling of being 'done' and having my complete collection of dolls (though things like clothes and shoes will never end, haha). I want a very small collection and I've bought dolls slowly since I started collecting, so I've sorely felt the gap in what I have the whole time. Since the idea for the main part of my collection is that they're like a 'family set', I just can't help but feel like until I get all my dolls home, the family is 'split up'. Dalia needs her sweetheart and Candy wants her BFF to come home and play with her already!

But in terms of a final, final doll, I actually see the truly final doll to not come home in a while now; probably at least a couple years. Right NOW, I want to bring home the last two dolls that make up my 'family set', and they're absolutely necessary as the bare minimum for my concept. But the idea for this fourth member is more like an extra-fun 'cherry on top' that's not strictly necessary like the others, but I would really like to bring home eventually. But for this one, I don't mind waiting a long while. So I guess in a way it's going out with a little 'bang', haha. It wouldn't be the most expensive doll in my collection, but it would be that splurging 'special treat' doll, I guess you could say.

It will likely be a BlueFairy WS Junior Shirley boy, which I'd plan to modify to be unisex. The other dolls all have specific color schemes and 'looks', which is fun and practical so that I don't buy every cute thing that fits, but it can also be a little restricting when there's some stuff out there that doesn't suit -any- of them at all. This would be that special, eclectic, funky doll that gets to wear all that type of stuff that I can't get anyone else, I guess, so from its very concept it's all about being a bit more excessive and different.

I figure that's a long day away though. I hope I can make it into a gift to myself for some worthwhile occasion when the time comes.

    7. I would want to go out with a bang. Since I already have hunted down absolute grail dolls, I think I would like to go for that custom Volks doll that costs $5000 to obtain, but then you get a true one-of-a-kind. It's the kind of money I'd usually never even consider spending on a doll, but if it's my last, absolutely my last, then I guess this is the perfect way to finish a collection.

    8. Currently my collection does feel kind of complete with my MSD...My goal for years was to get one of the bigger dolls and branch out from vinyl but in trying to save up for another...Welp now that I think about it I'm kind of happy with how my collection is as it is. I'm planning on saving up for other things now adays. (New MP3 player, computer repairs..)

    9. I may have inadvertently done this. I don't intend to stop buying BJDs permanently, but I just got two of my grail doll when the sculpt was rereleased for a limited time, and now I feel very satisfied with my current collection. I'm going to focus on paying off my credit cards (which I filled up with doll purchases X_X), buying other limited edition non-balljointed dolls, and saving up for a vacation. I have some dolls that are naked, a couple without faceups, and one floating head with no body at all, but I'm not overly concerned about them right now. Seems like after I got my grail that I'd waited so long for, I just feel happy with what I have and I'm not looking for more. ^^

    10. Yes, finishing up the poor incomplete ones is a good goal to work toward once you have the actual "last doll" in hand! I'm working toward finishing some up too, and have a few floating heads now that will need bodies and esthetic work to be complete.

    11. I feel like if I got a Domuya Nightmare, or similar ball-jointed horse that fits my SD girl and my future 70cm, I'd be happy to just make clothes and armor and accessories for them.

...so basically, I'll be collecting dolls forever.

    12. My "final" doll, the one I would want to have before I would stop buying dolls, simply does not exist yet.
I want a feral looking cat girl. All the cat girls that are out there lean heavily towards the cute end of the spectrum with delicate hands and feet. I want a cat girl that could tear a person apart if she had a mind to do so. Anthro legs, massive paw feet, large clawed hands.. and ears on the side of the head, not the top.

If only I could sculpt or draw... maybe I could get my dream doll made somehow.

On a more realistic level, I want to get a Dark Elf Soo in a SD size, be it an older one from Luts (and I would LOVE to get my hands on the tan one they had), or a Fairyland 60 release. I hands down would have to get one before I call it quits. She was supposed to have been my first doll, but I kept putting her off and then the original Delf line was pulled. It has been my biggest regret to not have gotten her when I had the chance.

    13. I can't stop... and I've stopped trying to stop...

I am a COLLECTOR so it's kind of never ending... I don't even pretend I'll stop anymore. Maybe someday! I certainly have a lot to sew for!!! Which I rarely have the time or space for.

    14. my last and final doll will be the one I am waiting for about 9 months to save up which he is an Illusion Spirit Zhujin MSD.

    15. Every time I THINK I've reached the end, I end up reorganizing and selling a few and buying new ones. Realistically, my plans are to upgrade Hansel and get a few kids for my SDs, then be done. Though if I do decide I'm TOTALLY done, for sure, I think I would want to end it with something really special. Probably a full Iplehouse or or Volks FCS , or possibly a Soom Monthly doll. Something I would normally hesitate to drop so much cash on, but I think it would be fun to do just once!

    16. I hadn't thought of that! Dream FCS would be a great way to go out!

    17. It most definitely would! I could certainly be able to end my collection on a note like that.

Truthfully I might be done now. Watch me jinx myself, but while I have 4-5 dolls I'd still love to have, I've had no motivation to put the effort into getting new dolls for a while and I'm pretty darn content with my group now. Maybe I just enjoy drooling over my grails more than I really want to own them, I don't know.

My latest doll is my Yo Megu. She's my little Volks mascot and epitomizes the brand which I love so much. She has been a good stopping point for me for now.

    18. I have my wishlist of dolls, and I am hoping to stop buying dolls when I have collected them all, but everyone I speak to says otherwise. And I agree. I seem to find another doll I want every week, so I don't think this will ever end.

    19. Well for me I admire about 4 grail dolls, I am a single mom with 4 kids the idea of me obtaining one of these is slim to none so I opted to go smaller with my dolls and I paint them to be inspired by the larger dolls and it is ok with me. But if I had finished getting bodies for my dolls and had the extra funds and was just done with collecting I would go with one of these 4. 1. "Shadow Onyx" there is just something about her that I have always loved since I saw the doll the first time she is stunning. 2. "Wysteria by Elfdoll" yes I am aware this is really just a repaint of June, and I have practiced the faceup on other dolls in the thought of getting a June head one day to recreate a Wysteria for myself but the doll is just lovely and a real jem to me. 3. "Dollfie Dream Kanu" She is a lovely tan skinned DDD I was drawn to her as my first doll was a volks dollfie in tan skin 01 head and to me it would be a sd version of my velouria and a full circle to my dolls such a fitting end I think. 4. "Jessica by iplehouse" she is curvy and stunning and a more adult doll in appearance from many of the anime looking girls being in my 30's myself she is just lovely. Being in the large dolls. I currently own 2 boys and only 1 girl I think it would be nice to even out the ranks so to speak. until that day I will finish working on my lil ones. Ironically not a grail doll but one I admire is Terrance but DIM, he is just unique in his expression and I like that.

    20. I thought I had reached the end of my collecting. For two years I stopped buying dolls & I honestly can't remember which doll was my last but I know it wasn't a Grail doll. I'd already bought those. Now I've started collecting again but can't afford to keep it up so a Soulkid may be my last doll, again, not a Grail doll but someone very beautiful.
