your most regretted bjd size?

Feb 8, 2016

    1. (oh sorry I should have used the word 'regretted', not 'repent' in the title! ) I was thinking right now to this question. What's the most regretted doll's size?
I will give you an example. I wonder if this happed to others too.
One I thought that my favorite size was tiny bjds between 11-16 cm size.
Now I found out that I think YO SD is my definitive favorite size.
This made me wonder if there's a specific doll size that one can repent to have bought compared to other sizes. I mean, with more probabilities.

AStatisticatilly talking (if is this the right English word), what I image is the SD size, since is the most big as size. I image there's need a lot of space and maybe who own an SD have more probabilities would start to get MSD or tiny sizes?
Or maybe the most frequent change of mind happens with very tiny dolls, after you dor examplecollected a LOT of dolls of the same size and at a certain point you realize that now you love another size and you dont want that tiny size anymore?
      Let's discuss!

    2. I think a lot of people start out wanting SD, but end up scaling down to MSD because of storage issues. Or so that's what I've seen. I haven't really regretted having my SDs, but sometimes I wish they were smaller, especially my 70cm. If I could shrink them and still keep the detail, I'd be happy.

    3. I started a collection of SD boys thinking that was all there was to my doll collecting, but then on a whim, I bought my first MSD girl. When she arrived I was so in love with everything about her, from her size to her sculpted, beautiful detail.
I've taken her out recently, redid her face up, bonded with her bit by bit, and she stays out with me more often now. Since I've bonded with her most recently, I've had this hunger for more MSDs, not because of storage issues or being unhappy with SDs, but because I have a better appreciation for MSDs all together. One doll was enough to open my mind.

Of course, I still adore my SD boys but I've become more inclined to MSDs and may even prefer them... So I'll say MSD is my definitive size but SD still has a place in my heart and collection. c:

    4. I had similar feeling I got an MSD after owning SDs and I bonded with her in a way that I never thought I would. And it's not because of storage issues at all (though it does help a bit, it's not the reason why the bonding happened).

It's just that MSDs are cute in their own unique tiny way, and I think for me, MSD would seem to be more addictive.

    5. Agreed! And MSDs have proven to be addictive for me... When I first learned of the hobby in 2008, most companies were doing the more anime-esque or childish sculpts with the MSDs which didn't appeal to me like the more mature SDs. So I had my mind set on SDs from the get go. But, within the past few years, companies have been shifting into this trend of mature MSD which I really like, obviously lol

    6. I actually started off with wanting an MSD since that's what I can afford in price and size back then. But as time goes I feel like MSDs are too small and I gradually grow fonder for SDs. I don't really regret for buying MSDs but I feel sorry for them as I am now biased towards SDs:XD:.

    7. I started with MSDs but wanted a SD. Didn't have money at the time, but eventually managed. Then I sold all my SDs, and got YoSDs. And now I'm back to the YoSD & SD size. And sort of wanting a MSD again, ahahhh.

    8. I started with MSD but after about three years and collecting over 10 dolls, I realized I liked SD better and they felt more worth my money. So I ended up selling off the MSD crew to replace them in SD shells. That was such a hassle and I know I lost a lot of money in the process. Since I kept the same characters, I was just selling all of my MSD stuff (dolls, wigs, clothes, props, furniture, accessories) and trying to rebuy it all in SD size. After three years of collecting almost nothing but MSD, that was a lot of stuff.

So I guess you could say I regretted MSD most....but I just got my first Minifee a couple of months ago and she's making me want another one and remember all the perks of this size. Still, even if I get two, I don't think I'll ever want the majority of my collection to be anything but SD again.

    9. 6" to 8" BJD's just don't seem to stick with me.

I've had several - Elfdoll Angel Hana (2 of them), Custom house Bisou Ai (3 of them), PukiFee (2 of them), but I don't do anything with them. After a while I realize that I change the clothes on them every once in a while then they sit there untouched for months, until I notice them and change the clothes again.... Pointless having them, really. I guess that's why each time I've had BJD's in that size range they've been sold on.

    10. I have yet to regret purchasing any size BJD. I currently have one SD, one YOSD and one Pukifee. I'm curious about the MSD size but not sure I'll ever purchase one.

Every size has its pro's and cons to be honest. I'm pretty sure I'll stick to only one SD but you never know. I prefer YOSD and smaller at the moment but my preferences tend to shift. I wish I could make up my mind, I really do. Currently I'm mostly drawn to my YOSD while I was so very close to giving up on that size less than 3 months ago. I'm also in the market for another Pukifee or perhaps even a cute little PukiPuki. I guess I just want to give all of the sizes a chance.

    11. I never took the size into consideration, if I like the sculpt then I'm done. I have regretted buying some dolls but the size had nothing to do with it.

However, I don't really like the SD size but I adore the sculpts and I love all my SDs, I just wish they were smaller ^^ my favorite size is the mini ones from MSDs to tinies. MSDs is my most favorite size. I don't regret any of the dolls I have right now though.

    12. I'm an all sizes welcome collector ... and I have multiples of each size at the moment. Though my two favorite girls are two of my Kid Delfs. I love dragging them along on adventures (usually just to work to sit on my desk...Not the most exciting adventure...) though occasionally one of the tinies will get to come with us too.

    13. I have dolls of all sizes, but I came in knowing I was a "big doll" person. I've tried MSDs and smaller, and while I won't get rid of the ones I have, they really aren't my favorite size at all. There are a couple in there that I really am sorry that I got, because they just aren't right for me, one being a Soom tiny, and the other being a Minifee.

    14. I mostly regret every tiny doll I ever purchased. I'm talking the really small ones between 10-20cm, not the 26cm and up 1/6 size. I also kinda regret most of my 1/4 size dolls from a certain company.

    15. I only have like 5 MSD sized dolls and I seriously doubt I'll get much more in terms of thise unless I finally give in and buy a Narin to go with my Narae or the 2 Dollmore 16" fashion dolls that I've been seriously coveting for several years now. I came to BJD's from collecting 9-16" fashion dolls. The first OT BJD I got was slim MSD sized and I loved her, loved that she could share clothes with the rest of my 16" crowd. I never thought I'd want anything bigger. But I fell in love with an SD sized doll, bought it, and from then on almost all my dolls ended up being SD sized. I just really like that size a lot. I don't regret my 16" dolls really but I do sometimes wish now the ones I have were bigger...

    16. Now you have me curious. :)

    17. The only one I've really had issues with is my Soom Fairy... He's an "adult" proportion-wise, around the size of a fashion doll, and I find him really awkward to dress and photograph. He looks absolutely ridiculous sitting with any of my other dolls, too.

Honestly? I shouldn't have bought him. I should have avoided him for all of the same reasons I've avoided Fairyland's Chic-line dolls. The combination of that size and that look just don't work for my collection...

    18. @Brightfires Yeah I have a similar issue, I have a 19cm BJD doll and she just doesn't fit with my crew. I wouldn't say I regret her, because she taught me a lot, but she doesn't go well with the rest of my dolls and I can't really fit her into their story because of the size difference. You know, it makes me realise how the first few dolls can often determine your future purchase/collections, if you're the type of person who wants dolls that compliment each other it can be restrictive. Like I love the look of Iplehouse, but their size just won't fit with my other SD dolls, so their are permanently off my list unless I decided to go with another collection (which I can't afford), or get rid of my other crew and start again (which I don't want to do because I love them, also, I can't afford.) Unless I was a millionaire I just have to live with the fact that there are some dolls I can't have, as much as I love them.

    19. I decided to get a tiny Pipos Cheshire because I thought I would be okay with his smaller size because he was an anthro. I typically collect SDs, and I just didn't bond with him due to his size. I really liked the doll itself, but I like the aesthetic of mature SDs more. I wouldn't say I completely regret purchasing him though, because it solidified what size I really prefer.

    20. I got my first doll in September 2015, she's an SD size. I do love the SD size although at the moment I'm starting to question my choice, mainly because of storage issues. And I do worry that I won't have the space for them if I plan to get more. In a way I'm sort of worrying about possible future regret. But I am also too nervous about getting an MSD because initially I wanted to collect dolls of all the same size.
This might be because I am new to the hobby, but I don't know! Aha
