Your preferred collection: Few dolls/lots of stuff, or many dolls/few things for them

Jan 24, 2015

    1. I have meager funds so I get few dolls and few stuff except for some of the clothing which I sew myself. though I would prefer having lots of dolls and few stuff probably one or two outfits per doll and then just the wig and eyes and shoes with no extra's, just buy the ones I like and don't change them.

    2. I try to finish one doll before buying another. Finishing to me is just a faceup, wig, eyes, and at least one full outfit. I don't need a wardrobe for each doll. Sometimes certain dolls it takes me a few wigs or eyes to get it right. I've already got more dolls than I thought I ever would. lol. I seem to not put a limit on it, but I won't have more than two dolls I'm working on at a time usually unless its a tiny.

    3. I also try to finish my dolls before buying new ones. I have a very small budget so, even if it hard to save up for a new dolls, I prefer buying clothes and accessories for the ones I already have. They don't all need a lot of clothes, that depends on the doll, but there IS a minimum of stuff they have to have !

    4. I would like to say I prefer few dolls with lots of stuff..... Or even lots of dolls with little stuff. Unfortunately, I have lots of dolls that just seem to accumulate more and more items. Even though I have been purging rathe than buying for the past few years! o.O

    5. When I first got into the hobby I wanted a couple of dolls with a ton of stuff, very similar to how I was with my barbies growing up. However nearly ten years into this I find I don't change the outfits nearly as much and don't see the real need to. My opinion now is to have the dolls I wish (however many that ends up being) and a couple of outfits for each (which is how I work things out with my American Girl dolls). Less clutter and less space needed to store things.

    6. I only have 1 doll and planning on expanding my family, but all my money i spent on my girl's stuff =))) (I know that i should save money but the dress, wig, eyes... areee sooooo gorgeous, i can't take myself ;-;
Anyway, i prefer few dolls/ lot of stuff rather than lot of dolls/ few stuff

    7. Few dolls with lots of stuff. When I started the hobby it was the opposite; I wanted as many dolls as possible, but that meant having no stuff for the dolls. No shoes, ill fitting clothes...I have changed this after my friend told me to focus on getting more stuff than dolls. So happy I did; I have a tidy collection of outfits and shoes and now I'm building up the accessories.

    8. I prefer hearing that people have a few dolls with lots of clothes, than lots of dolls and some of them not even having outfits. One doll can be many characters and all.

    9. I think I'd be a few dolls, more things kinda gal. I like the idea of having 2 dolls and they can 'cosplay' as different characters from time to time. Plus I just don't have the space for more than 2!

    10. I only have one doll right now and I spoil him, I love dressing him up in different outfits, he seems like the kind of character who enjoys the spoiling and dressing up and such. If I ever get more dolls his size, he's gonna have to share though, haha. I only want to get dolls that I really, really love, so I'd prefer to have a small collection with a lot of stuff for them.

    11. Giving my gals a nice wardrobe is important to me. I only have a few, and I've made or bought them lots of clothes.

    12. I have four dolls, and each one has her own 'world'. So I guess you can say less dolls more stuff, since I like them all to have a small wardrobe, a small furniture setup and a few cute props.

    13. Kind of in the middle I guess? I have a number of dolls, and most of them have their own stuff. But I'm only planning on getting two more dolls before I stop collecting dolls and start just getting stuff for the existing dolls. :)

    14. For now, I'm content with having a few dolls and lots of items for them. I do want more dolls though.... and more stuff

    15. I've... well, I've sort-of ended up with both, honestly. I have a lot of dolls, and over the years while I was collecting the crew I've also assembled a pretty extensive collection of "stuff" to go along with them... Extra wigs, a whole horde of spare eyes (I admit it. I'm a total eyeball fiend. ), quite a lot of clothes and shoes, props, accessories, pets, chairs and set-pieces... all sorts of things. I never saw it as a case of only having one or the other.

The trouble I've found with that kind of all-in approach, though, is SPACE.

Even more than the financial investment (Which is actually fairly manageable, when spread out over ten years' time -), having a place to both display the dolls *and* store their kit becomes a real issue when you start to get into higher numbers. Especially when you're a neat-freak who demands that there be a certain orderliness and tidiness to the whole affair.

So, I'd say build the collection you have room for, in whatever combination of dolls-and-things you can handle storing and displaying. If real estate is limited, then stick to a smaller crew with a few outfits each. If you've got a big house and a lot of display and closet space, figure out how much you're willing to devote to the collection and use that as your guide. There's no wrong way to go, as long as you work within your own established limits.

    16. More dolls less clothes, I find myself selling off clothes a lot.

    17. Few dolls...
      Too much clothing.
This is more a result of "finding" the "right" look for my dolls.
When a new doll comes in I will try what I already have. Most times it doesn't work.
I don't change their clothes enough to warrant the amount of clothing I have accumulated. Ah well.

    18. One doll. Many many clothes and expensive accessories. OTL

    19. I made the mistake of collecting lots of non bjd dolls before discovering BJDs and then feeling overwhelmed by having so many because I like to sew in series of outfits for my dolls. Like all have a winter outfit, a Lolita dress, or pajamas. So I've tried to keep the number of my BJDs down and all mostly within the same size. I like slim MSD and SD the most. I'll also build hybrids on my favorite bodies to keep the time I have to spend on altering patterns to a minimum. Right now I am in love with doll zones MSD B45-12 body.

Since I don't want to have too many dolls but I like a variety of looks, I'm thinking about collecting heads and displaying them with eyes, wigs, interesting face ups and weird hats. They'd have to fit the bodies I have so I can switch out the heads.

    20. I prefer to have a few dolls but lof of stuff for them. With many dolls but only a few things for them, I'll feel frustated to don't be able to enjoy them as I wish to. I won't be able to change their clothes or choose new great outfits as I wish. I won't be able to take pictures of them if I miss accessories for them, etc... With a few dolls and a lot of stuff, I'll be able to express my creativity and won't be as much limited.
