Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I collect blythes so I stumbled on some of the big headed BJD's and fell IN LOVE! They remind me of blythe with there big heads so I had to have one! so my first from leeke is on layaway! but I do love some of the more realistic dollies, so maybe my next one will be a Minifee. but I cannot collect them as fast as I do blythes for the price jump is high! But I do love them!

    2. My first doll is a Domuya kid body. I don't know if you guys consider it as a first doll, but heck. I bought her since I like the articulation shown on the pictures. It's really neat. + It was on sale before Domuya died out. TmT I didn't think of getting the head as well. Now I am having a problem sculpting one since I have no reference. I am also modifying her to stop the joints from constantly getting misaligned.

My first whole doll is a Banji boy. I barely have any cash on me so I buy dolls that fit my wallet and lo and behold~ unassembled Banji. He is so cute~ and he fits the size of the minis I am making. Because he is not as expensive I get to buy other things with him.

So basically I bought them because of my limited budget and wanting to have a reference in size to the dolls I make.

    3. I started considering AoD, DZ, BBB, RS due to price. But after seeing AoD Chen and asking for owner pics, I just cried looking at him and I KNEW right then and there, that it didn't matter how long a saved or how much more searching I did, THAT was him! His face was too gorgeous to pass up. I bought him blank and naked for $175 and I still have him over 4 years later and I've never regretted my choice. I've had much more expensive dolls, LE dolls, fullsets and popular sculpts, but no other doll has ever come close to Amir (except his upgraded version).

    4. My first doll was an impulse thing. :|
I knew that I wanted a boy, it had to be around 60cm and that was pretty much it.
I bought a cheap doll, because I could. I don't regret it. I learned something from it.

I'm not saying buying cheap doll is bad. Not at all! There is plenty of gorgeous cheaper dolls out there. Just don't do what I did and buy something just because it's a BJD. If I had researched and waited a bit, I might have gotten to know my preferences before paying, but in the end it did take some time for me to figure out what I wanted in the hobby.

    5. It was all impulse. I had been searching sites like junkyspot and denverdolls for a while, but they all seemed so expensive. you see, I didn't really have any form of money at my disposal (other then my parents' money), so price played a huge role in which one I got. That factor basically narrowed it down to small Obitsu, Hujoo, and Bobobie/Resinsoul. that lead to a whole knew problem; none of the sculpts really caught my eye. That is, until I saw the Resinsoul Ming.
Okay, so the factory picture wasn't that great, and they hadn't given me an idea of what he'd look like, but junkyspot helped fill the gaps with their photos of him. Really, It was the hooves that got me; they were so different from anything that I'd seen before. I knew that he was going to be my doll. And with a birthday close by, he was in my hands three weeks after I had first seen a picture of him.
He's my first and only doll (though that might change soon), and I love him to death.

    6. The very first doll I had wanted was a BF Patrick. But as I kept researching and looking for other dolls that weren't as expensive, I kind of just kept coming back to the BlueFairy website. xD
I ended up getting a BF Olive instead because of their more open eyes. It was worth saving longer. :)

    7. Price was a major factor in choosing my first doll. I decided my first would probably be an ResinSoul, and I knew from research the bodies from RS tend to not pose well and need work on them, so I thought it'd be a good start because I'd learn a lot about stringing, sueding, general doll maintenence etc. I then spent hours and hours looking at the company photos and comparing them to owner photos I found on dA.
My first was always going to be a girl. I guess because, being one, I'd better be able to pose her and see her personality better? I don't know. I just couldn't/can't see myself buying a dude early on.
I almost got a Mei, but decided against her because of the elf ears (I wanted my first to be human so we had something in common I guess). I know there's a human version of the head, but for some reason I don't like it as much.
Li was second in line; her company photos really aren't great, but seeing the owner photos tipped the balance. She's got a pretty enough face, she's versatile, and I guess looking at her, something clicked.
So that's the long ramble about why I chose my first :)

TL;DR - ResinSoul's are cheap and good learning BJDs. Li is pretty.

    8. My very first BJD was my little Pong pong (in my avatar) I ran across her by accident and just completley fell in love with her. My mom surprised me with her for my birthday, and I was just overjoyed!

I only have a few dolls, but she's my most favorite <3

    9. Love at first sight is the best reason I can think of. :)

    10. my ex and I were moving on. I wanted a Yo. so I went onine and volks was having a lottery. I told her about it nd she thought I was crazy! "I'm not taking care of him when you get bored!", lol, I ended up buying another from her!

    11. My very first doll {and only doll, at this point}, is a DollLove Baby Love YoYo. I chose her because I loved her smiling face, and I found her for a great price on eBay - brand new, with free face-up and free wig, all for just the base price listed on the DollLove website. But here's the kick - including shipping, with the face-up and wig, my final price was exactly the DollLove base price. I couldn't resist.

I thought I'd have to save for a long time to get a BJD, but when this opportunity arose, I jumped on it!! I'm not in love with her face-up, but I'm getting a custom face-up later on, and so she'll be exactly what I want her to be<3

    12. Probably because she was the most beautiful doll I came across with a not so crazy price tag. Lol.
But it wasn't just the price tag that helped. She really is one of the most prettiest dolls I've come across.
It's a little sad that not a lot of people have her, and now she's discontinued.
But I still look at her to this day and think she is so amazingly beautiful.
And anything I've done with her appearance wise, she can take it and still looks amazing.
Super happy she was my first doll. And she's super photogenic, so when I have an idea it's not hard to make it happen. o uo

    13. When I was looking for my first doll I looked and looked for a sculpt that I would keep going back to. I made sure I REALLY wanted her. :D

    14. When I saw her pretty little face for the first time on the company's pictures, her adorable smile and her half-closed eyes melted me. And by chance she was not very expensive :wiggle !

    15. I think my reason was... price and the fact I could order it in stock at the junkyspot. xD I wasn't sure about bjds in the first place and I wanted to make sure I liked them before spending a large sum. >w<

    16. Unfortunately price was my deciding factor on my first and least favorirte doll. Still she served her purpose, at least to see one in person for the first time.

    17. For my first doll I kind of chose based on a company that was recommended to me when I asked where people suggested to get a first doll from. Dollmore came up several times and the Zaoll thread on here was quite active at the time which made looking for clothes that would fit easier. I also stumbled on the Zaolls when I was looking through the dollmore site and had one of those moments where you realize that you are looking at YOUR future doll :D

    18. For my first doll, I started the search with Iplehouse's YID Louis. His face was very appropriate for the look I want, but his body is too defined for me (and then there's the hefty price tag of $470). So I looked for other companies until I came to AngelHeim and their JuniorHeim Julian, with a more reachable price tag and a more comfortable height of 43cm (not to mention we have the same name). I was almost ready to settle, but decided I'll finish the company list just to be sure.

That's when I came to LUTS, with an even lower price range of $240 and a better line of sculpts that I adore so much. It was so hard to choose one single KDF, I liked each and every one's personality. In the end I short-listed the Bory, Salgoo and Pine boys. I was preparing my funds for the purchase, and then their 2011 Winter Event rolled in with the new KDF Yuz.

I was instantly smitten. Each feature I loved separately from Bory, Salgoo and Pine I found in Yuz, and then much more. I backtracked to AH's Julian and Iplehouse's Louis to make sure I'm not just settling for a lower price tag. In the end, Yuz still won.

For me, the first is ensuring that the purchase will be within your means (thank goodness I haven't learned to do layaway yet). Next is ensuring that the sculpt you love is indeed the one you love, and not just because he's more affordable.

    19. I have no reasons for choosing my first doll. I just look at the pictures and choose doll which I like.
But the most important reason for me - it`s price of doll, unfortunately...

    20. When I chose mine, it was because I was absulutely in love with him. Doll Love at First Sight. I went with Iplehouse because I did a lot of research and I love their men. I like my men with a little beef in their cake and the super hero muscular bodies just make me happy. Also, he fits the character concept I have in mind.
