Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I researched for a while from all the websites on what doll style I like, and I feel in love with only DOD. I can't help it, they have my favorite look. Anyways, I finally decided on a Camine. His face is adorable and so open. I had to redo his eyebrows, they looked way too girly for my taste, but now I have no plans to change him anymore.

    2. Because he came in a full-set. It's not the only reason of course but it helped me decide. I was so impatient, I just wanted my doll and didn't want to spend extra hours looking for eyes, clothes, shoes, etc... I even ordered him in white skin because it said on the website that it takes about a week less to prepare the doll compared to normal skin. I did my research of course but back in 2005 there weren't as many companies as we have today so it wasn't really that hard to choose. x)

    3. My first doll was DM Hwi ki. She looked so gloomy and realistic, and immediately when I saw her I knew she was the right one for me! It feels a little bit horrible to say this, but Hwi ki is still the one I love the most from my doll collection. (: I'm really happy I chose her to be my first doll.

    4. Mine.. is not so great. I mostly wanted an affordable doll that I figured I could build up, so I got the most affordable doll ever: A hujoo Dana. I was dumb and didn't look at a lot of pictures without face ups, nor did I look for better heads or parts that would actually fit. It took me a few months after trying to give her a body blush and a face up to realize I just didn't like her face, and when I started looking for heads I found out that her neck is much wider than most other MSDs and I'd have to spend time modding. Egh.

However! My second doll is an adorable little Cherishdoll Allie whom I love dearly! I see her more as a first doll for me though, since Dana isn't strung and Allie is. She's got just the sweetest little face and likes to live in my jewelry boxes. I'm trying to dress her more like a Norse princess because of her fair complexion, but so far she's a fan of brocades and tea dresses. Oh well!
I've learned that if you have to convince yourself you want the doll, just put the money aside and just keep waiting until you have enough for the one that takes your breath away. If you really need to you can also set up a layaway. It might take more time to get your sweetie home, but when you consider time for the face up or blushing, the processing and shipping, especially if you have to get it though Mint on Card anyway, 4 months isn't actually that bad. And if you save up enough while you wait, you can pay the rest of it all out and get her sooner. Waiting is so worth it in the end.

    5. Looking high and low, I saw many that could be "The One". Until, one day I saw her...then a long waiting, thinking, pondering period started...It was her and none else but how to get her?
Upon a windy, stormy day, a friend convinced me to accompany her to a doll show (never usually go) and to my amazement, there she was...the rest is history...and I still think she is The One for me lol.

    6. well finding the doll i wanted took a bit of time and what my friend told me was basically when i see the doll i want, i will KNOW and when i saw the one i want i had that feeling in my heart, brain and body that he was the one for me!!!

    7. I chose my first BJD mostly by cost. I don't have a lot of money on hand all at once, so my first BJD was the first Delilah Noir. :aheartbea I had originally seen the first Delilah Noir on a website for doll wigs, and I loved her face-up so I bid on her when I saw one for sale on eBay! (That sounds like how I got my RealPuki Kaka! Except I found photos of her on Flickr.) :)

    8. My first doll was an AOD Qian. And I thought she deserved a chance to become a beautiful girl and character instead of just going for a typical beauty doll.

    9. I chose my first doll based on the face I made when I first saw her. It was something like the kind of face I make when I see a cute puppy. That kind of "SO CUTE I want one" face. That and the fact no matter how many websites I went on, I kept coming back to her sculpt

    10. I wanted a doll with a beautiful face and a beautiful body and in my search for one like this i grew eyes on the Ducan from DOD. This doll really got my attention and i fell in love with it.

    11. I wanted to make a doll based on my OC, problem was that the selection of dark grey elf sculpts are quite limited, add the desire to have a smiling face and you will have a hard time finding the right doll.

However my friend helped me find find Resinsoul, and what do you know, I found a smiling 1/4 elf available in dark grey and it wasn't too expensive ether

Still waiting for my RS Mei to arrive

    12. I purchased a Elfdoll Sooah, and to me she is breathtaking. I find that the female dolls I purchase now, have to have that same beauty.

    13. Angle of doll, the first month's salary is too little, I can only buy a little cheaper one, Luckily the company have good quality.

    14. My first doll was a second-hand Bobobie- he was small, relatively inexpensive, included a face-up, clothing, and eyes, and was immediately available. Overall, he was a great introduction to the hobby. :)

    15. I was into DD's and was waiting to get a body. I was browsing ebay looking at "1/3 bjd clothes" b/c they would most likely fit a DD. I happened across a resin girl from AoD that was done up to look like Alice in Wonderland. Well after much deliberation I bought her. I didn't get the skin tone I asked for, but honestly I think I'm glad I got the skin tone that I got. My first doll was an AoD Meng Li in case anyone was wondering.

    16. i got my first BJD because i liked how he looked, he was in stock, he was the size i wanted, and he wasn't too expensive, so if i got him in and found out i actually couldn't stand being in the same room with him like with porcelain dolls i wouldn't be out a small fortune...

    17. I was definitely looking at price... anything much over $200 scared me away because I wasn't totally sure how much into this hobby I would get, but I had a hunch that I would enjoy it. I spent time looking at Yo-SD and MSD girls because I knew I wanted to start with a female so I could have fun with girly clothes, and I needed a doll that would be able to accompany me to my dorm room. I started a folder of 10ish dolls I liked, including some over my price limit to make sure I didn't HAVE to have them. I looked at the threads in size-specific discussions to see if there were any general issues, especially with the less expensive dolls, and also to look at more owner pics. I did some research on how double-jointing affects posing. I decided on Fdoll Amber, who was very affordable but whose face I kept going back to. It helped that she was in-stock at Mint on Card and that her face-up was no extra cost. I have never yet regretted my choice of doll, I'm in love, and I didn't have to feel (very) guilty about the amount of money I spent on a doll.

    18. i love his sculpture of the face and his attitude. i'm kind of addicted to angry kind of looks on bjds

    19. I looked fora doll not to pricey and rapidly available from a sita I know, so I ordered an AOD MSD from an Ebay seller.
I received her in less than a month and wasn't disappointed at all (the body is great and if Ilike a little less the face I find rapidly a MNF head to replace it :) )
Now, I spent often more for a doll but my first one is still special for me. :aheartbea

    20. The first store I knew was DOD and I loved the dolls immediately. Years passed and I decided it was the time to buy one...but I'm brazilian and DOD's creditcard system doesn't work here.

So I started to look other dolls. I saw so many dolls and companys, until the day I found the angel region on Soom website. I saw Junior Leila and tought "She's a serious candidate, so cute, looks like Aiko" hahaha.

I knew it was her because I realized that I couldn't take her off my mind!! I was looking the other companys and thinking "this wig would be so pretty on her!!"
