Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. When I first learned about this hobby I kind of looked around at some of the stores online and wasn't really thrilled. That was when I stumbled on the Blue fairy site and instantly fell in love. Jasmine was the sculpt that made me really fall in love with ABJD. I was torn between her sculpt and Niky, but eventually decided on her. I don't actually have her in my hands yet, but I've ordered her and can't wait to get her!

    2. i had some criteria that the doll needed to fit;
      • under $400
      • easy to obtain (preferably available through MoC or DDE)
      • female
      • MSD
      • comparatively large hips

i really wanted a nobledolls raspberry, but she was a bit too high in price for me right now and i missed her normal skin preorder on jpopdolls. so, i ended up ordering a DC bella from MoC :)

    3. I had always liked dolls and collected porcelain dolls when I was younger. When I learned about the customization aspect of BJDs I was fascinated! Iplehouse was one of the first places I looked - every other place I looked just didn't have the appeal for me that the Iplehouse sculpts did. After saving extra money for a little while, I was very, very close to ordering an Iplehouse JID "I" ... and then the limited edition JID Asa came out and I was captivated by her. So, I ordered her. :)

    4. After spending 3 years trying to figure out what i wanted i found that i wanted a SD doll
but i didn't want to throw in a lot of money to fast
before i found out if it was something i really wanted to stick with
so i started with a MSD from angel of dream and i loved her she had a beautiful dreamy face and face up and her body pose well what sucked me in was the company photo of her what she was wearing was really ugly XD but i found i really liked the actual doll itself

    5. The first BJD I ever wanted was from Volks, but it was quite expensive. Because of that, I tried to search for other dolls that I might like. I ended up falling in love with LUTS' sculpts, especially the Kid Delf line. I've ordered a Kid Delf Aru a few weeks ago, and honestly, she wasn't my first choice. I thought of getting a Darae or maybe a Kiwi, but there was something in her innocence that I can't just... :D She was perfect. Cute, pose-able, and didn't hurt my wallet that much. Plus, LUTS has gotten a lot of good feedback.

    6. My first doll was actually given to me by a friend and I hadn't seen the doll prior to receiving him for the first time so when I did finally see him, I was immediately in love. Though he wasn't what I expected my first doll to be, after a bit of fixing up with clothes and wigs, I found that he fit what I wanted better than what I originally thought I wanted XD

    7. I was looking at dolls I could obtain fairly easily and cheaply. (Preferably Yo-SD or smaller because I wasn't really sure I'd like a bigger one as a first doll. I'm still not 100% sold on owning a doll above the MSD range but a lot of the sculpts are tempting....) I found I didn't like a lot of the lower-priced ones but I kept drifting back to Fairyland whenever I was looking.

It took a few weeks and a lot of owner pictures for me to finally put price aside and say that was the one I wanted and I knew I'd be happy with.

    8. I'm currently waiting on a ResinSoul Dan

Price was a factor--I ordered blank, and I didn't want to plaster my derpy first-time faceups, potentially messy sueding, and other beginner mistakes all over a super expensive doll.

BUT this was also the doll I had been looking at years ago when I was first looking into BJDs. Back then I was trying to talk myself into an RS/BBB mini because of the manageable price and manageable size, but Dan sucked me in, despite her size. And then, years later, giving it another go, I wound up on her page thinking, "Oh, I remember you. I still want you."

And since she'd stuck around so long as being the doll I wanted, after all that time nothing had changed my mind...that kind of made my decision for me.

    9. At first, I was after (and still am) the Soul Doll Vito Elan series ;w; but while scanning in manikamanila (our country's group of BJD enthusiasts) I found a peculiar doll that caught my eye, he had a simple faceup but with gentle and alluring features that just drew me into it. I guess its that moment you have upon seeing a doll for the first time and making a connection with him/her :D so now I'm on a layaway program with the owner and am really excited to get him >w< so yeah, it has to be a doll you adore and love, not because they look physically attractive, but also emotionally attached to. hope I made sense X_X

    10. I didn't want to spend a lot, I wanted a MSD (although I couldn't fully conceptualize how large she'd be at the time even with a tape measure, and I kind of wish I had gotten something in the 27cm range instead now), and I wanted a normal looking doll with no frills or fantasy bits or whatever. I looked around for a few days, discovered Resin Soul, saw Mei, felt a stab through me like "That's the one" even though the elf ears kind of bugged me, and that's how I got my Anya. What really sealed the deal was looking RS Mei's up on Flickr and Tumblr. I couldn't believe how versatile she was! People had Meis dressed in every sort of style, and she looked fantastic in all of them.

    11. I'd been looking for a long time, agonizing on weather I should get a bjd; they're expensive after all. I narrowed down to a few dolls, and was saving up for a RS Mei... when I found Magical Angel''s Kelly. He's a really good price, but I just fell in love with his sculpt. I think it was mostly cause he can stand on his toes, and since I was always (and still am) walking around on my toes, I just felt like we belonged together. His head is pretty much exactly what I've been looking for, and although it's not really what I thought I wanted (a boy) IT WAS MEANT TO BE. My friends want to kill me, I've been talking about him nonstop for the past week!

    12. There was a specific face sculpt I wanted, but every site that had it was sold out and didn't know if/when they would be getting more. I gave up on getting it. Right before my birthday, my fiancee wanted to go to the Volks store since we were in LA. I went with her, and looked around. The dolls displayed were cool, but nothing to my taste. Then I saw the Elena sculpt and I loved her sculpt! It wasn't quite like the love I had for the other sculpt, but it was pretty close. I couldn't stop staring at her, and wandered away several times before going straight back. Meg said she'd get her for me for my birthday, and... I said no, no, no, and finally I broke down and said yes. She just arrived and she's perfect in every way. I am SO glad I got her.

I ordered my boy not long after my girl -- only a few days later! -- because I saw him online and just... my heart. He'd taken it. I checked to make sure I had enough and I ordered him. He came within two weeks, which really surprised me; I thought I was going to have to wait months, just like with the Volks Elena. His face, his attitude... they were just... ah! I really, really fell in love with him -- my Jie Doll, Altair. So technically, she was the first doll I ever ordered, but he was the first doll (of mine) that I'd ever held. They're both my firsts in their own way, haha.

      I don't regret either one.

I'm actually glad Altair came before the Elena did. He came with clothes and a separate set of jointed hands. I was able to clothe him and swap his parts -- where, if she got here first, I would have been way too terrified to even put her eyes in. Way too intimidated!

    13. For me i guess it was love at first sight. I had always enjoyed looking at BJD photography cuz they are just stunning and one day i stumbled upon Ducan (D.O.D) and he was simply gorgeous and i simply had to get one for myself. After seeing his picture, I felt that nothing could match up to how beautiful he is...

And so... here i am.. saving up to bring him home.

    14. For me.. i does not know many doll website that time.. All i know is DOD. My aim is to get a boy for my first doll. The first doll that catch my eye are actually DOI but i think they are too expensive for me. So i look at DOC.. i fall in love with Homme Ivan. He just caught my eye ^^

    15. My first doll, I think it should be adorable and affordable.

    16. Reasons were on how their whole aura would attract me towards them. That unexpected bond one forms upon gazing onto a doll's photo. And any budget can fit, as long as you yourself is dedicated enough to spend for them.

    17. I love to make photos, and did not had a model at hospital. I cant take pictures of humans her. I got tired of just making pictures of the outside-looking at the buildings after several years, and when I saw one doll at Internet, I thougt: PHOTO! And then I started.

    18. For my first girl, it was actually my older sister who found her for me. We had been fangirling over BJDs and looking at sites together. At the time, the cheapest minis were around 260$ with most of the minis being 300$ or so. That was of course a lot for me, since I was just finishing junior high and had only worked for one summer. She heard about a Chinese company that had been operating for a few years and was releasing their first girl doll. So we looked at her, her price and the faceup that was included. We discussed together what I wanted and whether I was sure I wanted to get her. I spent two solid weeks staring at the pictures of her on the company website and finally I decided that she was perfect.

The price did play a pretty big role because if I had had enough money I would've gotten a Kid Delf Nara or a Soulkid Sweetney but I saw potential in the Mythdoll Yue. I love her body and the weight of her. And I'm glad I got her when I did because a friend bought the same model only a few months after me and never got her doll.

    19. I just recently decided on my first doll She will be a Bobobie Tiny Elfkin. I chose her because the price was more affordable and something i could get with my usual Christmas money. I fell in love with tiny dolls and had gone searching for the perfect yet most cost effective doll. i found BBB dolls and fell for the cute faces and the fact they came with face up included. After asking around i found out that people liked there tiny's from BBB and only had problems with the White skin and Stringing. so i changed my purchase from white skin to normal skin and was happy the only problem i have found is there wig size is one that seems to ether not be carried or have the worst styles (4-5) and people seem to be very sure u should not go lower (3-4) or higher (5-6) but you can find cloths for them as lati yellow dolls are so popular and ware the same size , but have bigger heads. I have yet to see my new girl but when i do I'm sure she will be perfect.

    20. I was saving my money for Spirit Doll - Cedar because I really liked that he looked like a man and not a pretty boy plus he would go perfect for a character of mine. So I slowly began to save up my money. Then one night I decided to browse Mint on Card and ran into DikaDoll - MuRong Ver.2 and this doll....simple called out to me. I felt a connection I didn't feel with Cedar. I had enough money to Buy MuRong so I did. And decided to save up again for Cedar.
