Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I had been wishing after BJDs for many moons, with little hope of affording one. Then one night I came across a photo of beautiful Mei, which led me to Resinsoul's page, and I went into a gleespasm, because they were actually in the realm of possibility for me. I saved up money for her...and then my car was promptly hit by a guy in a pickup truck who wasn't paying attention to where he was going. I had to spend my doll fund to help pay the deductible to get my trunk and bumper uncrushed (because my insurance couldn't contact him to get him to officially accept responsibility for days, and I really needed a fixed car.)
      And I was like :(

But it was meant to be, because eventually I got my deductible back, and the pause gave me time to discover Ariel, who was juuuuust right. Mei was beautiful, but Ariel was true dolly love (The ears! And the hands!! I love her hands!!)
      And I was like :fangirl:

    2. All of these dolls are beautiful, weather boy or girl and sometimes I had a hard time figuring what gender a doll was. Most important factor for me was that the doll looked masculine. (strong features and a strong body, of course there's a lot more to it than just that as far as the subtle detail and the unique qualities each doll has.) Honestly, I was super overwhelmed so time was also important. I didn't want to purchase on a whim or because the money was burning a hole in my pocket and the desire to have a doll was super high. I also wanted something I would love forever, keeping in mind that this might be the only doll I will ever be able to afford.

    3. My first doll was Pullip Marianne. I'm obsessed with Marie Antoinette and around the time I was becoming familiar with Pullips I came across her and it just seemed like the perfect one for me.

    4. FlyinFishtail, I'm glad you had a happy ending!

My first one was Luts kdf Ani. She was the most beautiful doll at the time and reminded me of this anime, ikoku meiro no croisee where there was two characters who were doll-like with golden hair and blue eyes. I went through, i guess, thousands of dolls and couldn't find any doll more fitting to my inspiration.

    5. The reason I got bond with my doll because of his gentle smile that's make me feel relieve from stress and make me feel happy to have him around, He just a YoSD size from Shiny Fairy Benjamin, Blue Fairy.

    6. I had fallen in love with abjds in general from seeing the early Volks dolls. Once I got my hands on my friend's doll, I knew I had to have one of my own. But it wasn't until I was browsing around and saw Dollmore's first limited Model girl, the Black Candy edition of Ipsae, that I truly fell completely in love. I knew I had to have her as soon as I saw her! So she was my first, and I still have and love her.

    7. To make a long story short, I fell in love with my Doll Love Alina. I had not initially wanted a girly looking doll, or even a girl doll, to begin with but I saw her and her little smile/smirk and I wanted to have her.

    8. for learning... i want the experience so i got a really cheap doll...

it's only after that i got the more expensive ones...

    9. I chose Narae, because she kept standing out among all the other pictures I saw. Also, she was within reach financially. I don't know if I will be able to buy more dolls, ever, so I'm really happy to get my favourite right away.

    10. I had a million-and-one ideas for my first doll. However, I can be fickle. I may love a sculpt in photos and hate it in person. I poked around for quite a while, checking out a bunch of different BJD companies. I'd initially intended to get a larger doll to start out with, but I fell in love with PKF PongPong when browsing the forum. So I thought tinies would be a good start since they're cheaper and could give me a good feel for BJDs in general. I ended up getting PKF Pong and PP Flora, since I wanted a boy and a girl to feel out both genders.

Since I've only ever seen a few BJDs in person, I had no real idea what I loved and what was just lust. Due to that, I ended up taking a much more logical approach to choosing my first dolls. I have faith that I will love and cherish them, even if I kind of jumped in head-first without really knowing what I was looking for.

    11. I saw some lovely pictures of a littlefee Ante on a board for other dolls, and I loved how she looked... But, I didn't start researching for another month or so, so I just admired from afar. Eventually I made up my mind to get my own littlefee, ordered some bootlegs, canceled my order for the bootlegs, re-cooped lost $$$, and found a great deal on a littlefee Chloe! She wasn't what I had originally intended to buy, but now I can't imagine it any other way! Now, I've saved enough for my Ante, only in pukifee size! Great topic, I love questions like these!

    12. Well, I've gone and done it. After thinking about it for ages, the doll that I choose to buy as my first ends up being one I'd never seen before today, but was aesthetically pretty much what I was looking for: Jie Doll 1/4 Jaime. First of all the price being <$300 and the item shipping from within the US (less wait time) was quite a draw. The sample photos also gave me lots of ideas of what I'd like to do with a BJD. Before this, I had rejected the idea of a "starter doll", and found myself aiming for dolls that were $400+. I now think it makes sense to get a less expensive doll to start with, but that I still was really drawn by, so that I can see how I feel about this hobby without "breaking the bank".

    13. My first bjd who is a AoD Wang Zi was actually a gift and he is wonderful and for my very first doll I do love him. The first doll I have ordered for myself is a RS Yao, I just fell for her adorable face and her wonderful fawn legs! Her price was not super expensive too which was nice.

    14. My reason is rather simple, and kind of lame. He was cheap, and I thought he was adorable the first time I saw him in the market place.

    15. My very first was actually an AoD Min, but he was given to me by a friend when she went off to college. He's been more of an experimental doll for me, because when I got him he was 4 years old and had quite a few issues.

But the first doll I saved up for and purchased was a NobleDolls Raspberry. She was my dream doll; stunning in an incredibly unique way. I looove poofy lips and big hips, and she fits both those criteria quite nicely haha

    16. I know for me it's actually sort of a sad tale, because, I picked my first doll by expense, instead of by how much I clicked with the particular doll. and it just didn't work out. The sculpt was not right for me and the giddy "I GOT A DOLL" thing passed really quickly.
to put it clearly, he was sold to someone who WOULD love him pretty soon after I got him.

I'm really putting work into my next attempt, looking at LOTS of owner pictures, and making sure that my next doll is right for my character in every way

    17. I had a number of very wonderful dolls I wanted to get yet prices kept me in the dark (no surprises there). I ended up finding my (soon to be) first doll while looking around on tumblr. He was being sold there and I had to have him. Priced at one hundred (it rose when I asked for his items too, but it was still a good price for me) I just asked for him on the spot. He's being sent to me soon and I can't wait!

    18. I bought my first bjd from an Australian Dealer who I had purchased from numerous times before- she was shutting shop, so her prices were reduced+++ So the doll I chose was brand new with a company face up & free carry bag- and she was MSD size, the size doll I had experienced before. It was the most I had spent on a doll, so safety with a known dealer within my own country, no wait time and great price were my reason for buying my first bjd that way :) She was not chosen for 'heart' reasons, but practicality- she was very cute, and I loved her for ages before she was rehomed- I'm still glad she was my first bjd!

    19. I had been into dolls since middle school, but was unable to buy one until my first year of college, late 2011 or early 2012. I wanted a simple doll. Not too big, not too small. And I wanted her face to be beautiful. She also had to be affordable, as it was my first doll and I was really nervous about ruining her. So, I looked around on eBay with my fiance. I decided on a ZhiYan from Doll Family-H. That's how my first doll came to be mine I guess!

    20. My first resin bjd was my Damian a Doll-love Brian. I was looking at pics of bjds online and it was love at first sight. I still think he is incredibly beautiful and it's his fault that I'm hooked now :)
