1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. When I was able to get my bjd I wanted a girl with a cute smile or if I wanted could make her look pouty. c:
I found just that from Doll Family H.
If I had waited longer I think I probably would've gotten an Iplehouse girl.

    2. Well, I wanted something from Soom but everything I wanted was sold out so I have to wait until the release something I want again. My first doll was a Minifee Seorin girl and I bought her from someone secondhand. I bought her because she is a minifee and I love minifees although I',m not connecting with her the way I thought I would. I think once I have her done up like Alice from "Alice; madness returns" I will.

The first doll I will actually be buying from a company though is my Minifee Shushu and 2 Faramitas from Doll Chateau. I'm still waiting for them to arrive. :)

    3. Slightly price, mostly because owner photos of her made me fall for her!
While not a grail doll of mine, I still love her to death, and quickly bonded to her. :D

And I didn't have to break the bank to get her. :D

    4. Haven't actually bought her yet, but I will in a week or so! She will be a Doll Leaves Amara. I was actually looking into Resinsoul first because I wanted an SD sized and mecause I needed something affordable that I could get my feet wet with. So, I decided on Ai. But, then, about a month ago, I was browsing shops out of boredom and just because I like to look at bjd's and I discovered Doll Leaves. I was in love with their sculps! And then I saw her, her sweet little face and gorgeous doll like makeup. It was love at first sight, and the price has convinced me I have to have her. Granted, she is MSD sized, but I figure she'll be easier to handle than an SD. Just waiting to get the funds in. But, I will still buy my AI, I think. Probably in April ^^

    5. I wanted the best posability and a doll I fell n love with, that would fit within my group of growing hobbies and collectables! :) I chose PKF Ante, shes the perfect size for me :)

    6. My first doll is DIM Larina.
I fell in love with her face. And of course the price was not high.

    7. I just love creating characters (I'm an illustrator) and I thought it would be nice to own a doll that look like the characters I've created. So I decided to buy some.
Still haven't touched them that much tho lol..

    8. I know I have yet to get my first bjd but I still want to replay. Well my reason is well she got me into this hobby in the first place I loved her look. With out her I would of never wanted any of the other dolls I want now. With out her I would of searched and just never got a bjd most likely.(Sure I kinda always wanted a more realistic doll. btw when I say realistic I mean a doll that is not shaped like barbie.)I would most likely of found some other kind of doll I liked or I would of just been a dream of mine I was never to fulfill and be sad about it.

So yes even before I get my first doll she means that much to me.

    9. I know I posted before but my real first resin changed..He just jumped out at me on the marketplace and his expression..It was so different...It took my breath away...I couldn't be without him. It's like he chose me...I didnt choose him, he found me.

    10. I ordered my first doll, Snow Queen Lea from the Lati collection as I love Lea's face and the outfit. But mainly it reminds me of a childhood painting that I had of a gal that was similarly dressed.

    11. It was just love from the first sight.
I thought to buy another cheaper doll, but no! My Legolas is love for the whole life!

    12. I had actually been saving up for a different doll from Dollzone when one day a hobbyist on DA announced she was selling some of her dolls, well when I looked through her listings I fell in love with her Switch Shino with a custom faceup. I had to have him, so in the end he was my first doll, secondhand and a lot cheaper than I the doll I was originally saving up for and I love him so much more for it.

He's my baby, thats for sure!

    13. only Love at first sight ) it's hard to explain )

    14. I've had my one and only doll for about a year and a half now. He's a BBB Apollo.

I was actually looking at 30 cm and smaller, but I saw his photo on a site, and went "Welll....". Then, I saw better photo of him, and his nose. I think his nose is what sold me. It was odd, because I had been looking at tiny little girls, and I bought this huge SD boy.

I found him used in the Marketplace after being able to use it for a day. A week later, he was home.

      He just 'clicked'.

Now, I'm in the process of getting an SD girl. If I hadn't seen that photo, I could have bought a tiny doll, which clearly is not the size for me! Funny how that works!

    15. When I asked my mother for a bjd for my birthday last year she decided that rather than go for a big doll right out of the box, I should test the waters of the hobby. Mostly I fear, because we're in a small country, and she wasn't convinced there would be demand here for bjd's just in case I decided (heavens forbid) that I didn't really want them anymore and wanted to on-sell.
      So I looked into tinies, and owing to my love of pointy-eared things I decided on a BBB Elfkin. My mother picked her skin colour (lilac) so something would be a surprise, and now she lives on a shelf in the living room waiting for me to finish her dollhouse >.>;
I think I'm sufficiently enamoured to go for a bigger pointy-eared doll when I eventually scrape together the money for one :)

    16. Quite frankly it was because he could be shipped in about 10 days. I knew I was going to get more than one doll and some weren't in the sale period yet. For all the other guys on my list I knew it would be months before they came home. So I started with a BlueBlood Doll Valentine and I love him to death.

But I also chose him because I had done my research, un-boxing videos, slept on it my choice for a while, read company reviews on DOA etc...and everything was glowing. Plus I genuinely loved everything about him, regardless of how long it would take.

Even if it would have taken longer than a couple weeks, I still would have ordered him.

    17. At first It took me 3 months to find 1 that suited to my taste, since I love sweet looking doll but i prefer boy doll, then I stumble on Blue Fairy and at the same time my senior already bought Limited Gus...
Benjamin from Shiny Fairy was hooked my heart and his sculpt are so what I wanted to search XD

    18. There are so many things to think about before getting a first doll.
Cost definitely plays a factor and when you have saved enough, there are still so many other things to worry about.
Like do like the face-up? How the body poses and whether or not you like the sculpt and treasure the doll when you do have him/her.

    19. well i really liked his face and the person told me apparently it was a limited edition face-up . Though since im still pretty new to BJD I cant be exactly sure whether she was telling the truth .

    20. While I first learned of bjds about 5-6 yrs ago, I rediscovered them about a year ago. The sculpts had become so diverse and there was even tan resin! Then I realized I wasn't paying for college, etc anymore and decided it was time. Looked into tan resin, found out which companies were "safe", saw Dollmore's suntan Paran, couldn't get her out of my mind & went for it. I only plan on having a few dolls ever, & ordered #2 about a month ago :sweat
