Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

1. The reason why I bought my Homme Ducan was because I was looking for a doll and I instantly fell in love with him and had to get him, I still love him to this day and dont regret getting him.

2. My first choice, back in 2010 when I first discovered bjds, was a Doll Family H XyiangYi. Even then, I thought he was really pricey(back in those innocent days). But, as the months went by while I was saving up money, I stumbled upon Crobidoll's website. As soon as I saw Crobidoll's Yeon Ho type b face up, I knew I had to have him so he easily became my new goal and ended up being my first.

3. I wanted my doll to be a part of me and revive some of my most cherished memories with/ through her.
My Childhood <3
So I searched for a doll that looked similar to me as a child. It was very important for me that she was smiling and looked innocent and somewhat lost in her own little world, like me :)
I also wanted her to be as small as possible because I am working on a room for her and have very limited space.

At first I was eyeing a Pukifee Ante since she looks a lot like me and I heard fairyland dolls are very possible.
But she wasn't quite happy enough and she didn't have the dreamy look to her face either.
So in the end after weeks of debating and researching I finally decided to get a Lati Yellow Lumi :)

4. I walked by him, liked him, had the money. He was not the doll I was even saving for at the time. But I like him so much more.

5. SD16 Ami Ayase captivated me from the moment I first saw her. I felt like someone had hit my heart with a hammer. I came across her on ebay while idly searching Volks related anime character DDs. She was named as the dollfie chosen to model a Volks outfit which was being sold, so from that I then knew who I would be looking for. Research soon revealed she was both limited and expensive. But a short time later I came across one priced acceptably to what I had since learned was present market value. Obtaining her has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. The other dollfies I've obtained since have also been desired, but not as intensely. SDM Liz & Chloe come very close!

In so many categories of life, we have to decide rationally considering many criteria and limitations. Compromise is an accepted component much of the time. For your first BJD, I would wish that you'll be able to hold out for something that you really deep down want.

6. I found bjd on deviantArt. First, I had a friend who painted the tiny Obitsu ladies for re-sale. I was one who sort of scratched my head as to how she ever got interested in something "like that" -- so I try to be understanding of people who give ME the "stink eye" now when they learn of my doll interest. Gradually I discovered the amazing art being done with bjd. I am an artist by trade, portraits my specialty, so I was challenged by the thought of painting on a sculpted surface. That friend with the Obitsu gallery on dA had completely blushed an SD doll and offered to sell it to me. I was very curious about a doll that size with the articulated joints and many ways to customize her. My friend's timing coordinated with my writing for an art grant, and since I trusted her, I stepped cautiously into the ring. Had NOTHING to do with the doll. I didn't know anything about the different companies at that time. She is my least favorite doll, but her status as the "bridge doll" has kept me, so far, from selling her. An avalanche followed her.

7. I don't exactly remember my reasons for choosing Haneul (my first), because I was 14-15 years old at the time.. But I remember seeing her photos and feeling she looked a bit "asian" in features compared to the more anime-like bjds out there. Of course my tastes have changed a bit since then, but I think at the time I just felt she was very pretty and I wanted my first to be a msd size. Back then there weren't any puki puki or puki fee sized dolls I believe~ ^^

8. When I was deciding between the dolls I wanted, my decision then was based on the ease at which the doll can be ordered (eg the English communication rep of the company had to be good) Since I wanted to minimise the troubles of finding face-up artists, hibriding bodies, restringing and multiple shippings that I knew I was very inexperienced with, I chose the one that I wanted the default face-up from a company that does not only sell floating heads. I also chose the company based on the body dimensions aka how easy it is to find clothes.
Yup, all practical reasonings there xD

9. I really liked the doll and thought they were very pretty plus fairly common so easy to find clothes for.

10. the first thing i was looking for was size. there were all these new terms... msd, sd, yosd! ugh! what do they all mean? so i settled on MSD and went from there, onto a beautiful face! and gracefull hands....

11. Face mold. I fell in love with Iple boys instantly. They look so real & handsome, then I choose Tedros to be my first because his mold is what I think of 'fairy king' character. He can look handsome but pretty at the same time and the EID size kind of in the age of around 26. I'm very pleased with him, but have difficulties on my first faceup because wrong brows can make him look girly :D

12. I adore my childhood and I'm extremely child-like, choosing a tiny for my first doll just complimented my personality so well as I had a little tiny to explore the world with and take pictures from her perspective. :)

13. It's fascinating to read about the choices everyone faced and how they ultimately made the call!! I am one who stumbled into pictures online, thought "Those are beautiful, what are they?!?!" and it's been a spiral since. I'm still brand-spanking-new to everything, but had some unbelievable beginner's luck and am working this backwards - found a very inexpensive BJD through local classifieds, and am now doing my homework to figure out who/what she is. My goal is to absorb information and document it all, hoping to look back in a couple of years and smile about how much of a "noob" I was. :)

14. I really wanted a hoofed girl and had RS Yao and Ai both on my wishlist for a long time. I finally decided on the Yao due to her size, but I might still get Ai at some point in the future.

15. i looked first for a doll that was affordable, or a brand of doll that i could afford, and once that was done, i started looking at what kind of dolls that company had. I originally liked a few dolls, but the face-up on one of the dolls, and the outfit and everything was just more appealing to me, so i decided to get her. I originally wanted a doll from Volks, but they were sold out of the model i wanted, so i had to move on, but im glad i did, since i got the face-up and clothes for cheaper than the volks doll. Also, being a fan of traditional asian culture, Only-Doll dolls are a good choice when it came to clothing.

16. I got Jack (a B&G Sky) because I fell in love, basically. I was browsing MoC and found his sculpt and knew I had to have him. His face was just perfect for my OC Jack. They had one *in stock* with face up and everything at MoC so I didn't even have to wait long for him to come home. I adore him. He is my *first* doll for this go around in the hobby, and I don't think I will ever be able to sell him. Hopefully when Parker gets his face up I'll feel more attached...

17. My first doll was an impulse buy 4 years ago and I still have her. Since then, I've barely bonded with her.
I'm hoping I can find someone who wants her soon! She's not on the marketplace or anything, but when I can, I'll put her up. uvu

18. Eep I just realized that I don't think my Latis were my first so I'll respond again. :) I think I purchased my Latis and my first Volks within the same time period.

I've been an avid fan of Rozen Maiden since forever. I love love love that manga and show (Yay for Rozen Maiden 2013!) and RL-wise, anyone who knows of the show always states that I'm like the doll Suiseiseki in mannerisms and more, so she quickly became my favorite because I was associated with her although Kanaria is my true favorite.

On a Livejournal post, I saw a friend had won a "lottery" for one of the Rozen Maiden dolls and was instantly enticed! I had to have a Suiseiseki myself and waited it out until my grail Suiseiseki was for sale who had the ideal face-up. Despite her horrible shipping from her previous owner and scratches on her face as a result, I've been so happy to have my own Rozen Maiden Suiseiseki in my company and hope that Volks releases Kanaria and Kirakishou dolls to compliment the new Rozen Maiden season being released this summer.

19. I was a bit silly when I chose my first doll! I found Bluefairy dolls before any other BJD and instantly fell in love. I see other beautiful BJDs but Bluefairy I love best because their heads aren't gender specific, they all come with the same clothes (school uniform), they don't give you a skin colour choice (except for limiteds) this might seem constrictive for some, but I like it becUse they all look good together! Also they're the proportions of children, they're very innocent looking. Although I didn't like some of their sculpts (which I have now grown to love!) I fell in love with 2 in particular, May and Olive. I wanted a girl, and I decided Olive was my dream doll. I was terrified people would judge me for wanting a doll and after much consideration I decided to compromise, I would buy a MSD size Bluefairy, but not an Olive because she has such a vulnerable look and I thought my Mum wouldn't approve. It was a stupid reason!! So I bought a Louis because she looked peaceful, not happy or sad. But I had trouble bonding with her because I was treating her like a mini-me and projecting my own feelings of sadness onto her. Anyway, I now have an sad looking Olive and she makes me very happy indeed!!

20. There was sort of a dual-reason behind my choice of my first doll. The roommate I lived with at the time and I both were traveling to a lot of anime conventions to do the Artists Alleys there, and she came up with the idea that "We should make doll clothes! We're both good at sewing, why not?" Sounded like a good idea to me, and it was tax return time so we'd have the money to get the models! She started looking around, showing me the ones that she liked, and then ultimately one she thought I'd like because she looked like my own drawing style and my OCs. Well, she was right, I did like her, but I liked her more as a him, and it worked out that her first choice was an SD while mine was an MSD--more sizes to work with! I ordered him up from JunkySpot (there was a stray male body in stock, so Emory was able to switch the heads for me and I didn't have to wait), since I'd wanted a doll to turn into that OC for a long time. So he came to me because of both of those reasons, and has stayed because I totally fell for the hobby after that. :)
