1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. At the time, I had some money put away to pick up a hobby over the summer, so I decided cost wasn't an issue. I decided based on what I was drawn to and the sculpt's reviews.

I knew I wanted a 1/3 scale female doll with an adult figure because the whole point of getting my BJD was to sew clothes for her, and I really wanted to try some historical womens' fashion on a larger scale. (I'd been making things for a 27cm Obitsu for a few months, but felt limited at that size.) I was drawn to Iplehouse initially, but the Limhwa Luna sculpt really captured me. I knew I wanted that sculpt, and that if I got another, I'd always think about the Limhwa and kick myself.

I looked up reviews and saw only one real drawback: she's hard to pose, but absolutely stunning once you manage it. I was willing to deal with that trade-off, so there we have it.

    2. Hehe, well... I didn't though hard on it, barely. I overall researched on bjds and wasn't picky about dolls, their face nor the possibility back then. I then joined the swedish forum, after that I noticed that a secondmarket existed and found my doll I now soon had for two years. The pictures was reeeeeeaally bad, but I checked every week to see that she was still there. After some time I bought here efter meeting upp with the first owner. I have never regreted taking my doll under my wings.

    3. I'd been drooling over BJD's for a while, and when I got my commission check during tax time (I work as a debt collector), I decided to invest in my first doll. I knew I wanted a larger doll, because the tiny one that I'd bought from a friend was a pain in the neck to work with. I ended up getting a BBB Dong, and I'm still anticipating his arrival, as well as the eventual payoff of my Doll Love Alice. <3

    4. I fell head over heels for Withdoll's Priscilla Dark Knight, but unfortunately she was a limited doll and at the time I didn't have the funds to by her. Later that year I got a retail job, worked really hard through the Holiday rush and had a few big paychecks in addition to some Christmas money. So when Withdoll ran a winter event and rereleased their limited dolls for a discounted price, I didn't think twice before buying her. So I guess you could say it was a mix of want and convenience for me.

    5. To be honest I always thought my first doll will be by Souldoll for sure. Well and it's not..
I have few Souldolls' on my wishlist yeah so it would be just logic to get one of them ne? It happened I was waiting for re-release IoS M and I missed it somehow (*still cries*) and so I went through companies again and I was thinkin' again.. There is something I am quite obsessed with in the time being and I got the idea I wanna BJD similar to someone. I was searching two days and I found what I wanted. I can't say right now because my boy is still not at home and I am waiting... but I think it would be what was I looking for and I chose him. Just because I need to have him on my side right now and so he is the first doll I ordered...

      That's it.

    6. Why can't you say which doll you ordered? O_O
My first doll was purchased from a combination of convenience and immediately falling in love with her sculpt. I still love her : )

    7. It's so hard to me to choose my first doll.. because i'm so in Love with the serie Rozen Maiden.. Uh i wanted a Sd doll Suigintou i saw her too over $15,000.. this is a crazy price for an doll.. hope i find something else

    8. I recently purchased my first doll and I took a long time to pick my first because this is a very serious decision if only simply because of money. I searched for a long time before finding my first doll.

I fell madly in love with BJDs when I went to a panel on them at a local convention and one of the panel members had this Large tan skin male doll that I lusted after. Except for his size I felt he was much bigger than I would have liked so I began searching for the right doll for me. I knew if I was going to get a male he would have to be tan skinned but the problem I kept running into was any male doll under 60cms were childish looking or I mistook them for female. At this time I was only looking on company sights for dolls, no outside sites. I was having no luck but I felt I wouldn't be able to handle such a large doll especially since it was my first and I would have no idea how to handle it.

I stopped looking for a while, I became consumed with other things in my life and things settled down. Eventually I went back to searching because my birthday was coming up and it was one of those big number ones where people make a big deal about it so I took my time and I started looking again. This time I looked everywhere at every kind of doll taking into account the size and price what was included what wasn't if I was going to have to pay for extras. You know...all the important questions. Eventually I just began browsing around for fun, thats when I found Mint on Card. They had all these different models from all these different stores and I was mainly looking to see if they had a male doll that caught my eye not intending to buy one but wanting to look at the large dolls anyways.

I downsized to the 1/4th dolls and found Doll-Love May. A beautiful little doll, I was smitten, I don't consider her a dramatic beauty but she was cute and because it was Mint on Card she had packages you could buy. I found that her full package (face up, clothing, wig, eyes) cause around $310, and considering some of the prices I was looking at for the most basic doll and eyes combo easily was more than that at sites I first started on I decided that she would be my first. I must admit, I will anticipate her arrival because she was a pre-order doll meaning I must wait 8 to 20 weeks before I will get her. But I know the wait will be well worth it.

    9. The first think I look for my first doll was the Face.About the several companys I didn´t know many that time.
My first Doll war a Ringdoll Dylan last year,he was a present from my husband.I choose this doll, because I saw the Companypics and I felt in love with him.
But now I have a problem.I haven´t a Wig like that, and that makes me a little bit sad.
But maybe I´ll find here a suitable wig for him!:-)

    10. I am really picky when it comes to choosing dolls. I go for innocent, cute, and sweet looks/bodies. And Fairyland for me acquired to my taste the most. So I chose a MiniFee Celine (because I liked her size, and her adorable little teeth). She just perfect for me ^^ (And I am also planning on getting a Mnf Chloe) (:

    11. I'd actually been saving up for a completely different doll when I bought my first doll. I'd briefly entertained the idea of buying him at some point but then I saw he was sold out and put him out of my mind. A while later the company announced it was selling its dolls half priced and I jumped on the offer considering it was actually a really good deal ^^

    12. I'd planned for a long time to get a different doll than the one I ended up getting. I'd intended for my first doll to be a Migidoll Jina and had everything planned down to the T. Then Migi announced that she would be discontinuing Sleeping Miho and I had to have him and here we are.

    13. I'm currently attempting to save up for my first doll. I have my eye on a Luts Senior Delf, and I have been slowly saving money. But from time to time, the lower price tag of other dolls makes me want to buy them instead just so I can have one NOW. Also, the price tag of around $800 makes me a little ill.

But I figure, why buy something I will just like? Why not just wait and buy something I will love? So I am trying HARD to be patient. It doesn't help that other costly expenses keep coming up. My husband wants us to buy a second vehicle, used for less than $1k to use for work. I also want a new tattoo, a new mattress, and Lasik.

So how did you decide who to buy first and how much to spend? Did you save up for an expensive doll first, or try to stick to a cheaper one? How much was it?

    14. Well, back when I first started collecting the only 'cheaper' ones were still about $400-500. Although I had my eyes set on a Volks limited (SwD Lucas), I decided to go for an Iplehouse SooRi instead. I thought that SwD Lucas was impossible to get, since he was already sold out and very expensive to get.

Even though I liked SooRi, ultimately getting him was a let down. He's a gorgeous doll, but he wasn't what I wanted. It didn't take very long for me to sell him again. Then, a while later I decided to go after this SwD Lucas anyway... and I haven't regretted this a single minute. He's absolutely beautiful!

    15. (woopsie, I posted in the wrong place. :))

    16. In my opinion go with your heart and save up or layaway the doll of your dreams. Even if you get something cheaper you will probably still want the other one anyway. Either way though be warned they are seriously addictive :)

    17. What everyone above is saying but also look around, look at owners pictures hell look at the marketplace when you get access. You might find what you're looking for a lower price or find something you want even more that was unexpected.

I was all for a Kid Delf Yuz or a KDF Muroo but I had this unsatisfiable urge to check the mini's section of the marketplace. Saw: "FS Resinsoul Song 125." I was just curious I looked...

      [IMG] I got the Song.

You never know what you might find but always go with your gut instincts. I love my Avalon immensely and I have never regretted buying him. Do I still pine for those other dolls? Yeah but I can always save up my Christmas and birthday money for one or the other.

    18. When I first got into this hobbie, I didn't know of many companies. Only Iplehouse, Crobidoll and Dollzone and I am very picky with my choosings. I love Crobidoll boys but they were too expensive for my first doll, so I decided on Iplehouse. JID Tania just stood out to me. She's so beautiful and so natural. I had to have her!

    19. Hi. I've just got my first bjd. She is an Iplehouse Cecile.
I chose her because I just fell in love with her. I love her pretty little face, and also the face up I chose.
I also love the JID girls' sculpt. So, basically, she was just my perfect doll. When you find the doll that's for you, you know. :D

    20. The reason I chose my doll was because I thought he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen lol. I had almost given up on the BJD hobby until Iplehouse posted their new JID basic Owen. He's perfect! He was the one I knew I had to have :)
