Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I knew my first doll had to be a girl, and MSD sized because they fit perfectly in your arm to carry around.
After looking through many websites, I ended up going to the Volks USA store, and I asked about the sculpt of the 2 dolls I really liked in the store, and they were both F-18s. The price scared me away and I went back home, but no matter what doll I found I could not get the f-18 out of my mind, and after months of hard work and saving I was able to bring her home :)
I knew from the start my resin family would not be big (capped at 2, and happily so) so I decided to go for my grail right off the bat, and I couldn't be happier! ^_^

    2. My first doll was a pukipuki Pongpong, not because I thought he was cheaper than an MSD or SD. I first looked at a Soom Dia and then I looked at Dream of Doll Tender E-An and finally an Iplehouse JID Asa (both dolls I would still love to get and keep!). I chose this one because I loved his angry eyebrows, despite that happy open mouth smiling face and when I found out he was the size of a G.I. Joe figurine, I thought, "Okay, Yes. I like this."

I'd recently used my sister for months to talk me out of buying either of the three dolls mentioned above. I had this large amount of money saved, I didn't have any hobbies that required money at the time, and I would load up a cart with a doll and all the clothes, eyes, wigs I wanted, have the mouse hover over "continue to check out", look at her and say, "Can I buy a doll?"

She'd roll her eyes and say, "NO."

So, I'd close out the window and go back to watching tv and forget for another couple weeks. So, to be fair to her, one of the big the reason she doesn't like the hobby is because I probably prepped her well for it. lol. But with the Pongpong, I didn't forget. I was literally back at the site with him in my cart two days later constantly for a month straight. And one night, she wasn't there in the room to tell me, "No" so I clicked "continued".

And that's the story of how I bought my first love.

    3. I chose my first doll first of all is because she just has this beautiful face. I'm not really into the big eyed sculpts so when I saw her, she was just perfect! She also had a beautiful body so shes everything I wanted. Also, I didn't have much money from a big doll so I could only get a small one, Luckyly that sd doll that I loved had a smaller msd size version which was her ~ So she was good.

    4. I spent a lot of time browsing different sites, and looking through various bjd tumblrs. Even though I spent a month or so looking, I know I barely touched on all the different dolls out there.

I decided that I wanted a small doll, and I didn't want a human. One of the first ones I considered might be my first was the baby Fennec from Doll Factory. So I started saving. While I really liked the fennec I really wanted a multi tailed fox (kitsune), but the only antro ones I found were limited and/or sold out. Even then I found one that I fell in love with (though not her price), but her tails didn't quite fit what I wanted. As I would find out about new companies I would check out their websites.

It was through a sale notice on tumblr that I came across Alice's Collections, and then found Doll Leaves. And then I found her. Fay.

She was just the cutest thing I had ever seen. No, she wasn't a fox or even an anthro doll, but she was a fairy and I do love me some fairies. Even with a face up and her full set, she was around the amount I had been planning on spending on the fennec. I just wanted to snatch her up right away! Not wanting to rush into it, I did sleep on it. Of course, I got very little sleep that night. I spent a few hours of restlessness looking at clothing and eyes and wigs for her.

I checked on DL's dolls with some other doll people, and I liked what I heard. They all loved their DL dolls. Even better, I could put her on layaway through a couple different sights. So a few days after finding her, that's what I did.

It will be a few months before I see her, but I'm sure that I'll fall in love with her again at our first meeting. :aheartbea

    5. I bought my first doll on a whim. Mint on Card had a booth at Youmacon last year, and I fell in love with dolls. Doll Love Evol was my first, she just kind of spoke to me I suppose. It has been like that with all of my dolls.:aheartbea

    6. I decided for a Minifee Chloe do be my first doll because I just really loved her sculpt.
I had seen many other dolls at the time but I remember when looking at doll pictures I would always end back being awed by the Chloe.
Back before I even knew what BJDs were but I had just seen some and thought they were cool and wished to have one some day I had already thought up a character and stuff.
So when I really got to know what BJDs were and was starting to plan to buy one to be that character I had envisioned the chloe just seemed to fit the best.

    7. Getting older - my eyesight isn't want it used to be - and I love sewing outfits - so I thought I would have a big doll. I had browsed various different companies - But when I logged onto Iplehouse recently and JUan was there - I just had to have him - the whole doll ensnared me. It was a whoah moment that stopped me in my tracks when I saw him. I haven't got any particular scenarios for him, but I do know I'll have to get him a lady as well in the future

    8. I fell in love with the Iplehouse bodies and checked out their sculpts. I was head over heals for two of their sculpts right away, Eva and Felix. I couldn't decide who to get so I decided I would get both but one would be first. I picked Ember first because then we could have girly bonding time and it just felt right to have her as my first doll. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't change anything.

    9. I am baffled as to why I chose my first doll - I look at her now and think ....WHY? She is very nice and all - no faults, poses great, lovely faceup, but just a bit bland and lacking in personality. I think I just hadn't seen enough owner pics to really form a strong preference - All I knew was I wanted an SD sized girl. I saw someone selling an Angel of Dream Qian on ebay, and I just liked her face - she's pleasant looking and not sinister or challenging to look at. So I did some research and decided to order a new one as I was nervous about 2nd hand dolls at that time.

Time went by and I got more dolls and saw more owner pics - I went right off my 'boring' AoD Qian, to the extent that I changed her head for a different sculpt. Her head lay in a box for ages with no eyes. Then I decided to sell my bigger dolls and collect tinies, so I put her back with her body and took the photos for ebay, and started to box her up but ......SOMETHING stopped me - I don't know what? She IS a beautiful, well-made doll - I just couldn't sell her - and she is my first doll after all, which makes her a bit special!

I put a wig and clothes on her, and begrudgingly made room for her on a shelf, still not really liking her, never mind loving her. But she's kept me company and been in sight for months now, and she has grown on me - I have become fond of her I guess - she's a keeper after all! I'm glad I don't regret buying her now - although given the choice of dolls out there, I still have no idea why I chose her!

    10. She was cute! It was nothing more than that. She has a derpy little smily face, looks a bit spaced out! It was between her and DZ Annie. I ended up getting a DZ Annie secondhand about a month later!

    11. Because I loved her face/sculpt! I didn't want to do a face-up on my first doll and Iplehouse had a face-up choice for mine that I loved. I also liked the bodies and quality of their dolls in general. She also fits a character I'm thinking about.

    12. Because by the time I had found my first doll, I had already seen many and none stirred me in quite the same way as that doll did. I knew, right away, that I had to have it.

And thankfully for me, it wasn't outlandishly expensive.

    13. I was overwhelmed when I first started looking at BJD's. It is really a challenge to understand all that is going on in this world. I kept coming back to Iplehouse. They had the most realistic dolls I could find. Then it was the challenge of picking one. This also took a long time. I finally picked Kassie JID and she is in the process of being made right now. I will go back to Iplehouse for my next doll as well. I am really hooked.

    14. Because I totally fell in love with my MSD when I first saw her. I thought about her nearly 3 months and could not forget this really beautiful face. She was a Dollmore kid girl Roo and I still own her. My bf gave her to me as a christmas present and I was so happy to see her under the christmas tree :).

    15. I chose my first BDJ, Iplehouse Pixxie Blooming, because her sculpt and default faceup were so striking and emotive to me, because she's offered as a full set, and because she's more affordable than my grail doll. And as I'm still new to BJDs, I thought it would be a good idea to start with a smaller one. Plus, when I looked more into Iplehouse's Pixxies, I just fell in love with their funny little body sculpts! Blooming is a great option for a first BJD, I think. Ironically, the first time I saw her, I actually didn't like her at all. But now I can't wait until she arrives. :)

    16. I just recently ordered my first doll, so the experience is quite fresh in my head. So, I've been wandering around for BJDs of different companies everywhere, and finally just turned to use MoC as my main dealer. Through MoC, I had a few favorite companies already in mind. I ran through every one of my favorite companies and found many I liked... I finally settled on one that held my attention, which also conveniently offered event dolls as well. I'm already quite attached to the dolls that I have ordered, even without having them here yet. But yes, that's my story. Not so amazing, haha!

    17. I didn't know anything about BJDs when I bought my first one. She was an impulse buy at an anime convention. I saw her, I picked her up, and I instantly wanted her. Do I regret it? Nope, I never will. I love her to this day.

    18. price... my first doll was very affordable (d.i.m vinyl eileen) i wanted a cute but durable doll since i knew nothing about bjds except that they are very fragile... plus i didn't have a good job yet back then... so i went & got the cheapest that i could find...

    19. I decided to buy my first BJD to create one of my characters, and I was honestly overwhelmed when I first started looking for the right doll to be him. There are a lot of dolls out there! I did loads of reading here, and looked at a lot of the companies people seemed to prefer, but although I loved the dolls, none of them were right. I did start narrowing it down, and I had a few possibles, but none of them felt 100% right. Then I saw a really cute doll from Migidoll on Tumblr, which led me to their site, and after looking around a bit, THERE HE WAS! It was instant and I knew I'd found him. He was sold out at the time, but that didn't put me of. Luckily for me he went back on sale quite fast, and now I'm just waiting for him :)

My decision was based purely on the doll and him being right for my character. Price or company played no part, and I would have bought him regardless of either of those things.

    20. Well I had seen BJD's in the past but it was the really pricey ones around 800-1000. I knew that was not in my budget so I put them in the back of my mind. Then one day I was just browsing around and I fell upon a couple of MNF fairyland girls that a friend of mine owned. I thought they were the cutest little dolls I ever seen. So I sent her a message and asked what type of dolls they were. She told me and I started asking many questions about them (like where to buy? size? price, ect). She was more than happy to answer any dumb question I had. So she gave me some sites and I started researching them. WOW!!! I came upon sooooo many dolls!!! I checked out a bunch of them and I even checked out other sizes. Well my heart still went back to those minifee girls. So I spend two months deciding which one I liked best. Wow that was hard!!! Then I decided on a minifee Rheia and here we are!! I can't wait for her to arrive!!
