1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. It was simply a similarity to the character. It was quite hard and I would probably never find a perfect one, but choose the one that matched the best.
As about a boy or a girl - I always wanted to have a male bjd first, so I choose a male character and started looking for the doll I want.

    2. I come from a Roleplay background and finding BJD's has now given me the opportunity to bring my Original Characters into the real world in a different way. I'm very excited to start looking and bring to life my characters! (Not in a literal sense, haha)

    3. The first thing I looked up was the dolls that pleased my eye and mind the most (hello double joints). Then I looked if the companies were safe to order from (and the re-sellers ofc) and just chose all the dolls I liked and thought for a month that which one was the best for me :3
I really wanted to dodge the error of just choosing the cheapest doll and getting tired on it in a couple of months, so I simply took my time and chose the one that really was for me.

Whops, I digressed from the subject of "why" I chose my first---
Think I just love the anatomy and mobility of the company's doublejoint body and just loved the head sculpt
He looked exactly the kind of character I wanted my first doll to be :)

    4. I had an image in mind when I thought of getting a doll. I wanted a slim and tall boy with a handsome face. I thought the hair, eyes and clothes could just follow. Luckily, I came across Dollshe and they had the perfect doll for what I had in mind. :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

    5. My future first doll will be an image of Saber from the Fate series. I'm a fan and I could really see myself in Saber. Since then, Dollfie Dream was my target. Well, I couldn't really get Arthuria (she's too overpriced in the aftermarket) so I have to stick with Nero (Fate/Extra). But she's still Saber and still have those green eyes and serene face. :aheartbea

    6. I'm looking for a highly posable doll for my first. One that won't need body mods to pose. After that, it's all in the sculpt.

    7. Love at first sight? That pretty much explains it~ :D He is a Bluefairy/Minoruworld Minoru Junior!
In my eyes, he really stands out from the other dolls in his line and there's something about his face that makes me love him! I tried to find more dolls that might be better first dolls for me but people say 'love at first sight' is very special and we will always come back to that first love. I also love his body proportion! His YoSD body is cute but it looks too small for me so I still want him in his 33cm body although it would be difficult to find clothes for him.

So now I'm trying my best to save up and I can't wait to take him home! XD

    8. My original intention was to buy a doll that was affordable and also very pretty, but it wasn't until two years later until I could afford her QvQ

    9. When I first got sucked in to this hobby a week or so ago, I was just loving looking at all the pretty faces and wigs and clothes, thinking, "Any one would do!" But now that I'm really looking around, getting a feel for the hobby, I know I want something specific in mind or I'm going to drown in possibilities, so I set a goal. I wanted to make my OC, Zoe Williams. I've chosen most of the components (head, body, wig) and I'm working on eyes right now, then I'll move on to picking clothes. Having a focus has really helped me. Maybe for my next doll I'll just pick what I think looks nice without having a rigid standard on what it needs to be, but for now I want to make sure my first doll is one I will love from first to last.

    10. Years ago a friend talked about the hobby to me so angry that I never forgot. He was extremely jealous because of a Californian collector who bought Japanese BJD while he had no money or knowledge to buy the same thing. :drool
We searched for the source around the world without success. A lot of time later another friend found this forum and BINGO: We got BJDs too. I wanted a vampire and bought my beloved HZ’s Huika. Now I have some more. :XD:

    11. First price, but lucky for me most dolls I wanted were pretty cheap.
Second , love at first sight, you will know when it is the one...

    12. She was the first that made me think that I had to have her. I had been looking for my first doll for a good 6 months and my choice kept changing. I couldn't settle on a single doll while I saved up the money. However, when Iplehouse released Soa, I just knew she was the one. I did have one moment of hesitation over a different Iplehouse doll released after I had decided on Soa. They released Barahan and he was limited so I thought that I might get him instead but he wasn't really what I wanted in my first doll and I knew that. It took my boyfriend to remind me that Soa was the better choice. Barahan isn't even on my wishlist so I don't know what I was thinking.

    13. When I laid my eyes on my first doll, I could see one of my favorite characters in him. I fell in love, I just had to get him.

    14. My first doll was an impulse buy, which I greatly regret. At that time I had just come across BJDs and I really wanted one, but I didn't do enough research, and I ended up buying the first doll I could find that was for sale locally. I had no idea what kind of BJDs there were out there, I only found Volks and LUTS, but Volks was way out of my budget.

But I see on this thread that most people put a lot of thought into their first doll, unlike me xD

    15. My first doll ever was an off topic Makielab named Roi. I had always been fond of bjds and I was browsing the web when I found the company and I fell in love with them. I'm still in love with Roi still.

My first resin doll, Pearl, was more of an impulse buy actually. I was floating around on ebay and I found her for sale. Her price and size were insanely perfect and I just knew I had to have her come live with me. Usually when I drop more than 40 USD on an impulse I regret it but not with Pearl. I still love her to bits. She is the best little drawing model.

    16. I'm currently looking for my first doll now actually.

Since I hope to base her off one of my characters, main thing I'm looking for is a doll who fits the image in my head of what I picture that character to look like.

    17. Size and not so fantasy look. I found her from Iplehouse.

    18. I went about choosing my first dolls very logically... I knew I wanted to get two, so I decided to go for MSD size. I found two sculpts from the same inexpensive company that had the aesthetic I was looking for (DZ Mo and Megi). They had body sculpts that I liked and looked good together and I researched owner pics for along time to make sure. Then the Canadian dealer had a special event where if you spent a certain amount you'd get a fox tiny too. It seemed like a great deal so I went for it. It was lucky that I bought when I did because the doll company raised their prices not long after.

Now since I've been in the hobby for a long time, I don't search for a doll to buy, I already know several that I love enough to buy, or I come across them without specifically looking. And I don't worry about price so much either (not that I have more money than before), so long as the price isn't jacked up and the shipping is decent.

    19. I bought mine three years after I first saw her. I have never been good at raising money for exspensive things and during those three years I always ended up buying other small things. Until last year when I decided that I just HAD to get her!

That would be my Leekeworld Mabel, Chiharu.
And shortly after I got her they made an announcement that they would quit making their older dolls to concentrate on new dolls!:/

So I was really happy that I got her when I did! ( although there will be time to get her around christmas I think^^)

    20. My boyfriend and I both fell in love with the Chobits anime, I couldn't even look at other dolls until I got my Chii, nothing else measured up.
