Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. Omg first of all i was curious to buy a simple sculpt and go from there so when i buy the first one all ppl love her and then the second one few ppl like it and my mom be a pet peeve on my 2 doll don't like her and yatta yatta. I like this so what i like her more than anyone telling me buy this one or buy this i like. Is not your money and i not regretting what i buy first of all i don't care if a person despise my doll what so ever as long i take care of it and love what i choose i know i don't regret anything.

    2. My very first doll, Harumei, was a Delf Miyu from Luts (this was back in 2007 when Luts was still selling Miyu and the other CP molds that are currently available from Fairyland...well, some of them anyway, I haven't looked to confirm if they all are, but anyway...). I took a couple of months at least finding companies, looking at the dolls, trying to decide the size range I wanted, that sort of thing. I ultimately settled on the doll I got for several reasons:

      - I felt like I could justify the price, and if the hobby turned out to not be for me I felt like I would be able to recoup a good chunk of the money if I sold the doll (I had only ever spent that much money at once on one other thing that wasn't a super-practical/necessary item so I was really worried that the hobby wouldn't be a good match for me and that I would be wasting my money).
      - I liked a lot of the accompanying products Luts sold, like the wigs, shoes, and clothes, so I felt like it would be really easy for me to get my first doll AND a couple of wigs AND an outfit to go with her. Plus, the Delfs are a pretty standard size, so they fit clothes and wigs from other companies as well. Because of that, I felt confident that even if I never learned how to sew, I would always be able to find nice clothes for Harumei.
      - Luts had good reviews so I felt like I could trust them.
      - I found all of the Delfs in general to be pretty attractive. Miyu just happened to strike me as the prettiest.
      - While I was researching and considering all of my doll options, I was also creating a character. As time went on I found myself thinking about the Miyu a lot and thinking of her as my character.
      - At the time I was actually considering both a male and female Delf. I did eventually wind up with both of them (the male in question was an El, who became my Ryuuki), but I decided to get the female doll first because I felt the most inspiration in terms of developing her character and learning to sew clothes for her. I figured that getting the doll that inspired me most would increase my chances of enjoying the hobby and wanting to be involved in it.

I guess I was right about that, since my 16th doll is currently chilling in her box while I try to exercise patience and wait until Yule/Christmas to open her!

But yeah, for my first doll I tried to be a little rational about it, but also tried to let my feelings influence my decisions. I knew from the very beginning that I didn't want to "settle" for any doll that I didn't really like, which is why it took me so long between decided to get a doll and actually placing my first order. These days it doesn't take me as long to pick a doll when I have a new character to shell, and my research for various characters led me to all kinds of dolls I like (but not for what I was doing at the time) that got added to my wish list.

    3. I had a basic idea of a character in mind, and I saw Luts Kid Delf Darae on the Luts website. I absolutely LOVED the shape of her eyes and mouth. I found myself constantly going back to the sculpt's page and eventually, seeing her face gave me even more ideas for character development. Also, something about her reminds me of Soyou from Sistar, so I thought that was pretty neat ^_^

    4. My friend had been eye-ing some of the new arrivals at LUTS, so I felt that I was fairly familiar with that company, despite very little experience. I knew I wanted a girl, in the mood for something "pretty." My first was a limited edition, 2 week sale, ugh. It was a few hours before the sale ended that I realized if I didn't get this particular doll, I'd probably sulk every time I saw the "sold out" marker, and so I bought her. ;)

    5. My girlfriend had been thinking of shelling her character into a doll, and my character is their spouse, so we figured we would shell together...plus, he's dreamy.

    6. Picking my first doll was simple for me: she was the first doll I saw that took me from BJDs being a neat thing to see pictures of on Flickr to a thing I needed to own. Before I saw her I had no real intention of owning BJDs.

    7. I have loved bjd for a long time. But one day I fell in love...)
I even haven't found a doll...It was an fortuity And love. Huge love. ;)
I like him because he is very skinny and beautiful and looks really girly..

    8. i have many characters floating around in my head and decided my first doll would be the first character i created, however when looking for a doll that would be appropriate for her i came across another that just screamed at me. the second i saw her i knew she was perfect for my saiyuka which wasnt the girl i was expecting to get at all. from then on i just casually browse the pages and which ever dolls strike me as "this is the one" are the ones i decide to get.

    9. I was browsing through dolls and telling myself not to get one as it was too to spend on something that wasn't a necessity. And then I found the Doll Chateau site. They were all so gorgeous and wonderful! Charles in particular caught my eye and when I saw the price, I was able to convince myself he'd totally be worth it and the rest is history.

    10. I am new and enjoyed reading your thoughts. So how do I decide what I adore when I never have the opportunity to see them in person? Thank u!!

I am new and trying to find my first love. Did u actually see your doll before you bought or just go by the pic? Thank you!

I am new and so wanting to fall in love...but not make a mistake. I have no opportunities to actually see/hold a doll. How d u decide? Thanks!!

I am new and found the Luts Clary. I did not buy her and now feel the same way. So much $$$ to commit to without actually seeing the doll. How did u decide? Thanks!

I am new and looking for my first love. How did u know for sure since u could not actually see the doll? Thanks!

I am new and attempting to find a first love. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Were u able to actually see the doll in person before u bought? I am new and need all the advice I can get. I do not want to make a big $$ mistake. Thanks!!

    11. nope but I know I'll love her just the same.

I surfed from shop to shop until I saw the LittleFee Dark Soo Elf and I couldn't resist, even when I look at other sites. Although the blue fairy make child dolls are really tempting. >< I'm not going to buy any more until I have my first baby home safe and sound though.

    12. The reason I chose my doll that I just ordered was she was everything that I was looking for. I researched dolls at the sites that I knew like Volks, Luts, Angel of Dream, Fairyland, Souldoll-----you get the picture. :) I was prepared to spend a lot to get my 'dream doll' and looked at them every day for a couple of months. There were so many beautiful dolls, and I was looking for one that screamed "I am the one!"

The last site I went to was Angel of Dream. I saw Qian and was blown away with how pretty she was. Then I saw Qi and Meng Li and Sarah and ohhhhh soo many. lol. I couldn't make up my mind and was trying to decide whether Qian, Qi or Meng Li. Those are the ones I narrowed them down to. I had to literally put their names into a hat and choose. Qian won and honestly I am so happy with my decision.

My next doll will either be Qi from Angel of dream or one of the dolls from Doll- Leaves. I love love love them as well. :)

    13. It was basically a case of "love at first sight". I thought I originally wanted Cloud from Luts, since my partner had gotten Cirrus and I thought it would be cute that their sculpts had matching names and I really liked Cloud's face and face-up (I still do). But then I stumbled upon Ringdoll's Crystal and instantly I was enamoured. I couldn't stop staring at pictures of him, I started to follow Ringdoll's FB page and tumblr in hopes of seeing more pictures of him from other doll owners, he was on my mind for days.

And then the winter events started. He was 15% off AND Ringdoll said that there were 20 of him pre-made for fast delivery and the thought of having him sooner and not waiting 2-3 months was thrilling so I ordered him. :) I'm quite happy with my choice. I still want a Luts doll though, which will probably be my next one.

    14. In all honesty when I got into BJD's I didn't know about Resin dolls at first...My first doll was an OT Obitsu and at the time I just wanted a small doll that could basically be like an Angel from Angelic layer...

Pretty much my exact reasons...A new hobby and something to be like the Angels on Angelic Layer...I have no regrets and still have my first doll.

    15. Actually, my reason for choosing my doll (I just joined the hobby so it's obviously my first) is that she has the same mouth shape and little buck teeth the first baby girl that was born into our family (my cousin's daughter) has... I have babied my niece so much over the last few years it just struck home when I saw Alma for the first time, I knew she'd feel just right in my hands

    16. My first doll was a tiny...and not just a tiny, a super tiny. I got her because she was cute, fit the character I had and I could get her through layaway (she was secondhand). So I got her, that's really it.

    17. I literally waited YEARS after discovering the hobby before I finally bought a doll. Nothing really clicked for me until my friend linked me to the one I just purchased a few days ago, but as soon as I saw him, I knew he was for me. It's hard to describe why, but he was just perfect, and I had no qualms about the price like I had on any other doll I'd seen.

    18. My first was a YOSD. I had just discovered the pukiFee Luna I wanted from Fairyland was limited and sold out. So I went trolling the web trying to look for any Alice themed dolls. Dollhearts popped out and I saw the model was a Peakswoods so I hopped over to Peakswood's site. None of their dolls really struck me until I stumbled across the wigs section. Naomi was modeling for one of the wigs. She was so beautiful that I immediately dropped them a question demanding to know what sculpt she was and where can I get that exact same faceup. Luckily her faceup wasn't limited so I ordered her and also that wig. She will most likely remain my only YOSD since I don't have any other child characters.

    19. I looked at a lot of sites of BJD-companies, but it was the Iplehouse JID Amy-sculpt I fell for. I have no idea why, we just clicked. It's as simple as that. Back then I was less picky too, since it was my first doll and had nothing to live up to.

    20. I like Namu from Soom, really his head, which is sold out, then I came across DC Christina, that I am waiting for...she looks like Namu, but I love her body, I didn't plan on doll chateau, I thought I was going to get Iplehouse or Ringdoll...but the DC girls are beautiful..I would like to get Stacy also and maybe Chester...maybe you don't choose your doll, its seems like the Doll chooses you..
