1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. Couldn't resist tiny puki pukis :)

    2. When I first found out about them I was directed to LUTS and when I saw the Kara sculpt I immediately fell in love. After more research I realized I found her quite boring so opted for a Laila. Then after owner pictures I decided she wasn't for me. I researched more and more and let go of the mindset that I HAVE to get an SD doll.

I looked at a ton of companies but ultimately kept going back to fairyland sculpts. I choose a soo dark elf and placed the order.

Then someone told me about peaks woods dolls and I fell head over heels with Kisha and Rogita. I was getting ready to cancel my minifee order and take the money hit. Then I decided to go back and look at the other minifee sculpts and fell totally in love with woosoo vampire elf. Luckily fairyland changed my order!

So I am hoping I will love her when she arrives!

    3. When I saw Souldoll Balial I realized he was perfect for a character I already had, my half Japanese doctor. It was almost immediate, I tried looking at others, but kept coming back to him. I decided then and there , I was lost to him and made my first order.

    4. I first saw a bjd in pic on DA when looking for some fanart of Vincent Valentine. XD I was reaaally in aw and loved the FFVII characters the person had done. I was curious again around 2003 and looked them up on ebay and omg. I knew after looking again and stumbling on El and Lishe I had to have one. But! There was no way a broke college student who didn't have a job paying their mom back for a stupid dial-up internet mistake could afford one. Argh!
When I finally got my job at Borders I focused and saved and earned my way to finally get one. What pushed me more so was meeting Chehime from the forums and she showed me her Lishe.

Even though I swore that I would get an El first, when it came down to finally making the purchase I sat there for three hrs looking back and forth between the El, Yder Special and Shiwoo Special. See, what had spoiled wanting to get El in the long end was seeing the wonderful El Vampires..... if I was getting an El it was going to be that sculpt or Tan El. So it came down to Yder or Shiwoo. Yder's eyes were just a smidge too big for me so I ultimately seldcted the Shiwoo special with one outfit and a couple wigs. X3 my Maliaru (Frans for his vamp head) is now 8 years old.

    5. I was looking for a girl with a serious look, not one that was smiling. And I would dress her boyish too but also be able to put her in dresses. For a while i really liked dreamingdoll misora, but I also really wanted a fully double jointed body, so i went with doll leaves maya

    6. There is one girl,bjd-collector from Ukraine, and i adore her collection! I was dreaming about getting one doll from her! And one day I saw she wanted to sell her Iplehouse Mari! I was very glad and now my dream came true! I didn't think she would sell her Mari,so it was really a miracle for me!)))

    7. I happened to stumble upon on a box opening of Bella from Doll Chateau on Youtube and just fell in love with her sculpt. After looking around at other dolls, nothing compared. I always went back to that one doll over and over so finally decided several months later to order her. I'm currently waiting for her to arrive and cannot wait!

    8. When I first got into dolls, Volks was really the only doll company. I was/am really into jrock and in frequenting fans sites, I came across Cassiel's fansite and she had a section for bjds. She had just a Volks F-29 at the time (now F-17) and I was completely fascinated. I soon started discovering more about Volks from there and while I wanted my first doll to be the Dark Michael, something happened that I didn't get him and ended up with a sd13 Syo instead. And then everything was downhill from there xD Not long after, I discovered Customhouse and Luts was just starting up, and soon my Syo had five other dolly roommates :sweat

    9. I needed a doll that was in my price range, and I found him on ebay. never thought of a doll like that, never had a concept or it, or an idea.
But he worked out just fine ^^

    10. And I knew that my first doll definitely would be Iplehouse! Because I fell in love with these dolls at first sight! They are just alive!
There was a period,of course, when I wanted to buy Fairyland Feeple 65 Chloe first, but I realized that my first doll could be only Iplehouse! And I made up my mind to buy female doll first).

    11. About two years ago, I was doing some really obsessive research on BJDs after I saw them in a comic book by a local artist when I stumbled upon the LUTS website and as I browsed through the first page, I saw the LUTS KDF Darae and fell in love with her sculpt almost instantly. Now two years down the line, I finally got her as a reward from my parents and I'm still very happy about it :)

    12. I choose my first BJD, a 5star BJD, because he resembles how I draw my manga characters. So I will not only have my doll because I love the sculpt, but also because he will help me out with my drawings :D

    13. I haven't yet forged into the idea of 'characters' (though I write a bunch, I'm not sure why I haven't..) so my choice was based on price (only because I wasn't 100% sure I was going to take to the hobby and this was kind of an 'experiment) and looks. I first ordered an Only Doll Han Bi, which surprised me because I didn't think I was going to be drawn to a much 'cuter' sculpt and one with half closed eyes. But there was just something about his face, something about his expression, that was so completely engaging and intoxicating I had to have him.

The second I purchased, who will be first to arrive tomorrow or Wednesday, I bought because he was on my wishlist and because I found him in stock (full set with face up) in my own country. While I was planning on waiting for Han Bi before buying any more, I was totally sucked into the idea of another doll, whom I very much wanted just as he was, that would be here in a WEEK that I could finally touch and hold and love. :aheartbea

    14. I wanted a doll from Volks first because it was the first company I came across. But decided against it.
I kept looking at all these different dolls for a while until I came across Obitsu for a 50cm one and I liked how I wouldn't have to restring it and how it wouldn't yellow so quickly and it wasn't breakable. So I wanted a hardy doll.
I tried not to pay Fairyland much mind because everybody had them. But I found that the people whose dolls inspired me the most, and the sculpts that I loved the most, all turned out to be FL without my even realising.

The things that I have on my dolly checklist are:
      Good poseability
      SD or MSD sized
I have a thing for neutral or ambiguous faces (so if you look at them straight on, they're not saying anything with their mouths or eye sockets) though I enjoy sweet expressions
A size that fits a lot of clothes from different places
and something that has a lot of potential for a lot of variety.

    15. Back when I first found out about the hobby, I used to dream that my first doll would be Volks, but they were completely unaffordable at the time for me. I ended up finding the Dollmore site and settling for a Lilis Liv. I really loved her when she arrived, and have bought all sorts of things for her through the years... but a small regret remains, that maybe I could have had another doll that I wanted more as my first one.

    16. When I first got into it I wanted a Camellia Dynasty Windrac so, SO bad because it fit one of my characters so well.
3 years later I now have a Migidoll Cho and I'm quite glad I waited, it's the same character but he developed from something cutesy like Windrac to something a little more pouty and menacing looking like my frumpy Cho is. So for me it was how much they fit the characters I wanted to make into a tangible thing.

    17. I seem to collect distinct noses more than I really collect dolls xD
Boy and Girl doll Afra has just the most dignified little bump in his nose.... I found myself drifting back to him over and over until I had to just on a secondhand one myself C:

    18. I started looking at the different sculpts until I found one that I couldn't stop thinking about. Every time I looked at other dolls faces, I would compare it to his. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to buy such an expensive doll but I decided to save up and I eventually ordered him.

I already knew I wanted a large doll so I mainly looked at them.

    19. My first doll was chosen because she was afforable. I was looking for a cheaper doll just to see if I really was interested in owning BJDs.

    20. I said "no" to my first doll for three years! I'll explain if anyone wants to know.

I am the type of person who tends to go overboard in everything. I started out years ago collecting a certain type of doll and have over a hundred and counting. These are smaller, inexpensive dolls. Then three years ago I bought a different type of doll - a little bigger, more expensive than the first type - and now have over fifty of these guys and counting. See the pattern? Anyway, these latest dolls were customizable and so I joined DoA for makeup, wig tutorials and such even though I didn't own a bjd at the time. But as I was researching I came across an image of this doll that I thought was absolutely gorgeous. Clicked it and learned he was an HZ WangYe doll. Saw his price and thought there was no way I would get into collecting these much more expensive dolls and closed the site, but saved his photo in My Documents.

Months would go by without seeing an image of him but every time I did, I'd have to look and consider and tell myself no. Then one day I came across an owner's pic of him and thought "hey, that's that doll I want." Looked the photos up that I had saved and realized that it had been over three years since I had saved them! I decided that if after that much time had gone by and I still wanted him just as much, I should just go for it! So I did, I adore him, no regrets! I have already bought my second and here I go again!!
