1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I've basically trolled a lot of BJD websites for a long time, mostly to save their outfits as references in my 'fashion' folder.

Then I came across Fairyland and their Minifee Chloe, and I just.. I had to have her. Something about her made me NEED her. I've looked at tons and tons of dolls, and never had one call out to me like that. It was surreal.

    2. I was afraid of ordering directly from a company (shipping, toll, taxes, time...help!!!) to germany, so I searched for a dealer in europe and I decied myself for a doll via Manu's Doll shop. I liked DZ Shoyo very much because of her nice lips and her big eyes. I started to search for reviews of Dollzone and ordered her ^-^

    3. After founding the BJD hobby, I trying to search dolls that match with my price range. Months later, I found something I really like and the price is unbeatable. Also, a coincidence happen and I finally can purchase my first.

Before I buy my first, the size, price and sculpt is a quite important factor in choosing so usually I lurk in forum to search lot of review :)

    4. I got mine because it was kind of Love at First Sight kinda thing. Love at first sight. :) I couldn't help it: he was just perfect. My first BJD was a Iplehouse Dexter. It was a birthday present from me to me. :)

    5. I was actually interested in DoD first. Their dolls are unique in a way that I think you'll know it's a DoD if you stumble across one of them. But I kept searching for more and one day I found SDgrB Kamimura Minoru, that smile (I know it's the face up or the sculpt), oh that smile struck my heart! At that time I know nothing about Volks and what's terrible is that he was no longer on sale. Lady luck on my side, I found it complete with his birth certificate and his original box in an online store. Ever since that, he has been with me through tough days and always make me smile. :3

    6. For a few years I had been eyeing the DZ Demi MSD, and had been set on getting her when I had the money. However, when I did get the money, DZ had released MSD Ina and I saw the wing and absolutely fell in love. I love wings with a burning passion, and I wanted to get her just for the wing, seeing as DZ didn't seem to sell it separately. I didn't really like her overall design, but the wing was just an absolute need for me... However, when I placed the order, DZ released the bodies with the wing on! A bit annoying, but I'm excited to get her nonetheless.

    7. When I got interested in BJDs I didn't have chance to touch them or look at them directly. I liked a lot of them and couldn't chose and I didn't have much money then. So I bought one of the cheapest dolls that was sold by a local BJD-fun. It enabled me to have a real doll, to touch everything, every joint, to pose it as much as I like, to watch its face and body, to understand all of that doll connected business. But very soon I got enother one, I roamed through many sites and found one I like and saved enough miney to get it. It was Fairyland Minifee than. And the first doll was sold. I was grateful for opportunities it had given me, but I wasn't interested in it anymore.

    8. I spent a long time interested in BJDs and the first one that really caught my eye was a SD Soom, but as an unemployed high schooler that was completely out of my price range, and ordering from overseas is still a relative unknown to me. Eventually I learned about USA dealers like Mint on Card and Junkyspot, and I ordered my first doll from MoC! Why specifically him? He was in stock, he is tan resin, not super expensive, and YoSD size. I was worried about getting a bigger doll for space and unsure if I could handle a doll a third my size. Tan resin was important for the character I had in mind. The fact that he was in-stock ended up being pointless because I accidentally ordered eyes that were out of stock, and they then ended up getting lost in the mail 15 long weeks later. But I learned how to wait.
(Learned how to wait? In that time, I impulse-ordered a blank MSD head off the marketplace... he still needs a body. Oops!)

    9. I had a character in mind when looking for my first doll. So I just searched until I found one that suited her while being in my price range.

    10. I bought my first doll based on the fact that I could not stop thinking about her. She was just so beautiful. I knew I had to bring her home.

    11. actually no reasons..
i see them after i scream
and they becomes to me oneday..

i see one picture of my first doll from others' pics
i think he is so beautiful
after saving money i bought my first doll

    12. The reason I choose to buy my first doll is mostly because of the deal price. Not only the price, after researching people feedback and such, I find it quite ideal for my first doll. But since I don't like the head that company make, I make a hybrid with a head that I like better.
Now that I have know how BJD hobby feel, I would like to buy a new one (possibly one day) that have even better poseabilty and sculpt, also with head that I like even more.

But I think I will never sell my first doll even if I like my new one cause my first doll is the one that let me to enjoy BJD hobby first :)

    13. I was into dolls for a long time before I considered buying one, I saw my friend selling a Kid Delf Ani over Facebook, the price was right and I'd already admired the sculpt and expressed my jealousy over her doll... So I just had to have her!
      But... Before she arrived, I ordered a second doll, a Pukipuki... Who was also at the right price. I'm a opportunist when it comes to dolls, it seems! ^^;

    14. I kept browsing BJD's sites for a while after finding out what the "pretty dolls" were. I kept looking at the dolls on various sites, shocked at the price. I never even wanted one until I stumbled over Dream of Doll. They had the Ducan displayed on the front page and it was sort of like "love on first sight". I just had to have him.
Thinking back I now know it was the eyeshape and the look that made me want him. I have a thing for these half open eyed, sleepy or sometimes kind of intimidating looking faces. Thank goodness most of them are limited or sold out. I would be permanently broke if not.

    15. This! I loved almost every doll I saw when I first got into the hobby, and over time began developing my tastes. Though I had a bunch of dolls on my wishlist, there wasn't an overwhelming need to buy this one or that one first, until I found Dollstown Triste (the old 2005 version). She became my grail doll and the first doll I actively chose to be my first.

However, I actually ended up with a different first doll! He was available for a very short amount of time and I am not sorry I got him, because there is literally no other way I would've ever been able to bring him home (DollShe Bermann). I was a bit guilty that the other doll I loved so much and chose first ended up being pushed back, but it all worked out in the end. Still have both of them. ^^

    16. I looked around for a really solid body and fell in love with the minifee posing. I then studied the available sculpts from fairyland for weeks deciding which I liked best, I knew I wanted a girl first and then a boy. I also knew I wanted to buy second hand to help support other people in the hobby. My first choice was a rena. But I found my second choice Rheia for a much better deal. This particular one has some imperfections that just make me adore her even more then I think I would a new rena. I'm really happy and can't wait to get her home. I'm just going to love and cherish her forever! Hopefully someday I can get a rena too and then the both of them can be best friends.

    17. Well I didn't technically choose my first doll. I had been looking at quite a few different brands/sculpts and my husband took and interest in what I was looking at. He said I bet you can't pick just three that are you favorites. So I did (in no particular order) and he chose one and bought it without me knowing. When she arrived I literally cried.

    18. I had very few prerequisites when searching for my first doll - only that he be 60cm or taller and male.
While I was browsing plenty of different sites I found many dolls that I thought looked gorgeous. I liked Ringdoll and Dollzone but I could not do choice between Ringdoll Sol and Dollzone Hong. Afterwards I have seen Dikadoll Murong Style-2 and I kept coming back to him ...again ...and again ...and again.
I have chosen him and I never regretted it.

    19. When i already knew i wanted to buy my first doll i started to looking on companies official sites to see which ones might be the one i would like, unfortunately the ones that i liked the most (Soom mostly) was already sold out, the others were nice but there was something missing - i didn't want to buy something i would regret after so i took my time and wait. After that i was just browsing news on one of bjd sites and when i saw the first promo picutre of Leo from Angell Studio i knew that's the doll i want to have and that was perfect choice :)

    20. I had looked at bjds passingly for years and then I ended up with an inheritance I wasn't expecting by any means. I fought buying one for awhile. Then I found Ringdoll Andrew and it was over, my husbands name is Andrew, the hair and eye color were the same as well as the skintone. He was my first. My Impldoll Iris was my second doll, she looks very similar to me in height and facial sculpt so she was next.
