Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I picked my first doll on price and convenience. My friend Tip has her twin brother, and my friend Akai wasn't happy with the Dollzone body she had just gotten for a character. I'd been in love with the Helen face minus face up forever, and when the body was the perfect size for it I had the opportunity to buy my first doll. I had to do some reflecting, as I had planned to buy the girl in pink skin, but the body was in yellow. It all seemed rather agonizing at the time, and I wasn't entirely sure, but looking back, I'm glad I decided for the normal yellow skin. She is /beautiful/ and the more vibrant color really works for her. (I love pink skin from DZ, but it can be very very pale, and I think the yellow suits her better.)

I remember being worried that I was settling. After some time to think it over, I decided that I was ready and dove in head first. I don't regret Zee at all. She is beautiful and perfect, and more special to me because of the face up and body I got from Akai. I remember I had admired dolls Tip had for years, so it was very exciting to finally get my own.

    2. I wanted to have something different and big. :D When I came across Doll Chateau I just fell in love with the Youth-3 body it was so arty and freaky (in a good way) ..just what I was looking for. And then I saw Stacy head and her mouth (love the lips with teeth) I knew then that I have found my doll.

    3. I've been stalking to D.O.D website for some time.. and to be save, I picked full set ..money wise.

      Thus, there's Chiyo, the Petsha.

    4. I wanted a doll that wasn't huge but had big eyes! It also had to be a girl with good posing~ Price was, and is, still a big thing whenever I was looking for a doll. I found Luts and was happy to find a Choux for less than $300 and very good quality. She can pose like nobody's business with a little effort! :)

    5. I wanted to be sure to like bjd, so I have chosen a low price but good quality and sweety face <3
It's a classic mold with really a big potential for creation "Ya Resinsoul" (Human version of Mei)

    6. My reason for choosing my first doll was sort of spur-of-the-moment. I had just started finding the doll hobby again after pining after a DoT Ducan in high school, and stumbled on the Souldoll site during their Christmas Promotion. Cubarem was on the front page and his face got my attention- and when I saw just how much detail went into the sculpt (his face has pores!) I just wanted him really bad! So I sold off some Magic cards and did it.

    7. My first choice was all about size. I wanted a tiny doll that would fit in my dioramas. I also love the challenge of sewing for super tiny dolls. The idea of jumping into a really expensive bjd made me nervous for my first purchase. So, I went with the cutest body/face sculpt for an affordable price. Since I have loved bjds for a while, but am still so new to them it made more since to just start slowly. The only problem was after I bought my first doll, I had already bought 2 wigs and 2 sets of eyes before she even arrived. I never had much self control when it came to the excitement of a new doll.:dance

    8. I saw a tiny soso doll and fell in love I just had to have her... I'd never heard of bjd's never touched seen a doll like this I just was googling a cute elf toy for a Christmas gift for my children saw the realpuki's and told my hubby I wanted one I got her in the jan lol

    9. I'd always wanted an SD but was worried about the lack of clothing options available in Australia.
I remembered fondly of wandering through the Volks store in Osaka and seeing all the off the rack clothing available.
Walking into store after store of second hand clothing and dollfies.
So when I got the chance to go back to Japan I knew I'd be leaving with an extra piece of carry on luggage.
Apparently things aren't going so well economically in Japan right now as a lot of the shops I remembered were either completely gone or hand downsized (2 floors instead of the 6 they had been).
I still had a large selection to choose between and I spent over a week making my decision.
There was a lot of "Her breasts are too big" and "Holy crap, that one's more than $2000!"
I was also very worried about buying one then having to take her naked into Volks to buy clothes.
Eventually I fell in love with an purchased the doll which had, coincidentally, been the very first one my eyes had fallen upon on my first day back in Japan.
Funny how these things work out, eh?

    10. When I started looking for a doll, I had spent almost a year searching for The One. I was really in love with the CP El sculpt (around 2007), but since there were SOO many Els out there, I ended up falling for CP Shine in stead. It took me most of a year to get the courage to place an order. I had never spend so much money on one single thing before XD

    11. I saw so much potential in her sculpt! I love sculpts that are (kind of) emotionless because it gives you the chance to choose their personality. My girls sculpt is actually more on the sad side, but it was very easy to do her face up in a way that made her look a bit happier.

I had no idea I'd love her as much as I do - she is breathtaking in person!

    12. I thought that I'd save money to get Doll Chatau girl, but then, one day I stumbled upon RS Yao, and fell in love! I had enough money to order her, so I did.

The reasons for choosing my first doll is: impatience and spontaneity. :D

    13. The first doll I really wanted was RS Yao. I knew I wanted fantasy models, a fox and/or a satyr for my first dolls.
I continued looking for several months but wasn't sure if I was ready to throw down so much money on a doll. I found some on auction sites and friends warned me about recasts, and I didn't think I would be satisifed with such a purchase. I ended up purchasing Yao and shortly after fell in love with Rosette Vela Cheshire. I have ordered what will be my Fox and Satyr. When they come in I'll have to post if I am still madly in love with them. Their characters are still developing and I look forward to making them all the dolly things! :love

    14. I already knew I wanted a big doll, since I used to own barbies. I was afraid my parents would compare them to barbies. I was going to get a Bobobie Apollo... When I had the money I had the biggest doubt in my head, and I started to see a bunch of things I didn't like about him. I stumbled upon Mystic Kids Milo, and I really really liked his face. o_o I still had my doubts, so I waited a week to be really REALLY sure. My only regret was not getting him sooner. xP

    15. I saw the body (yugiri tenshi) and loved how different it was and wanted to order it immediately. Then I chose his head based on what would look good on the body.

    16. I wanted to personify a character. The doll that matched the best was a Minifee. But I found them too expensive at the time. So I headed towards a less expensive company and I bought a DollZone. I greatly appreciated her, but I continued to save money and a few years later, I sold her and I bought my Minifee ^^

    17. I knew I wanted an affordable doll to start out with, as I wasn't ready to spend a ton of money on my first doll. I'm still relatively new to the hobby and am getting used to how costly it can be :sweatBUT I also wanted a good quality doll from a company with a good reputation. I was also sure I wanted a boy doll. I looked into ResinSoul first because they're awesome dolls at a great price, and I loved that they sell fantasy dolls. While I loved ResinSoul Mei, I still had my heart set on a boy and none of the boys really caught my attention.

But then I found the company Doll-leaves, and was delighted to find that they had a beautiful elf boy for a great price, and that's when I ordered my WISH :D I'm very happy to have him as my first!!

    18. This is a bit sad to hear. I haven't been back to Japan since I lived there in 2009 And only collected Blythe. One thing I look forward to is going back now that I'm more into dolls and revisiting all the shops!

    19. Saw an IH doll on Facebook and was immediately smitten. That's when I started looking into BJDs and decided they would be great representations of my characters. But naturally I had to fall in love with the biggest, most expensive IH sculpts!

    20. The first doll I purchased (Angelregion Ren) was the second BJD I'd ever seen and the first I really wanted. I thought she really suited an OC I'd been writing since I was a kid. She also came with a faceup, wig, eyes, and basic outfit (including shoes) for a reasonable enough price.
