Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. the first one was without reason, i just want one doll. i did't have any doll in my childhood, so having a doll is nearly like my dream.. but the second one was my true love

    2. He was right there, he was in my hands, and the price was something I couldn't pass up. Completely unexpected, but I'm happy with him and I just ordered him a girlfriend.

    3. I bought two dolls for my first BJD purchase. After going through multiple pictures of different dolls I knew I was definitely a Fairyland girl.

I bought Chloe because she was the doll that made me fall in love with the hobby to begin with, plus she seems very versatile.
I bought Celine because while browsing through the Minifees in Fairyland to ensure that Chloe was the doll for me I fell in love with Celine, too, and couldn't decide.

    4. I picked my fave character to be my first doll. Doll selections were pretty limited back then, and Dollshe Bermann and Hound were the tallest and manliest looking dolls available. Bermann was already sold out so I settled for the latter. While he was a beautiful sculpt he was still too feminine for my character so I kinda fell out of love and sold him a year later.

I just bought a new Hound last year because I found he still had a special place in my heart (being my first doll) after I got a better shell for my character.

    5. I based my decision on price mainly, because at first I wanted a Dollfie Dream, but no money, wahhh~ :'(
So I looked for other types of dolls, stumbling across the Obitsu line, and I absolutely just love my girl! She was affordable and I love the way she looks, as well as her posibility!

    6. I had a hard time deciding.

I wanted a MSD, and I knew what features I was looking for. I wanted a very cute girl sculpt that had doe eyes and a petite face and I also wanted an attractive body sculpt. The first doll I really wanted was the Luts limited Kid Delf Yul: Human version. I remember I checked it every day to make sure it wouldn't go out of stock before I finished saving the money....but it did. I was so upset but this caused me to look a bit harder and really think about what I wanted as far as pose-ability.
That's when I discovered Fairyland and minifees. I really liked the Ante sculpt but I was worried she was a bit too youthful looking for the character I wanted. But I decided to go for it and get her on a M-line body with the glamour bust. However, the night I had the money to buy my doll I was thrown a curve-ball. Fairyland released their Limited M-line sheep story Rin fullset and I loved her. So I kinda did an impulse buy and I went through some emotional turmoil for the next few days wondering if I had made the wrong choice. But now I can say I am so happy I chose her. I can't wait until she arrives.

    7. I got really attracted to Volks Dollfie Dream *__* just browsing along and saw DD Sendo Erika and just felt so right <3 She's not a popular DD though I really wanted her, and never regret anything about her being my first doll :)

    8. My first doll was a Resinsoul Song ordered of JunkySpot. I originally had no plans to get a bjd because even though I loved them, I had only ever seen the REALLY expensive ones that were $700+ so I thought I'd never really bother getting one. Then my room mate also got into dolls after looking through my old FB and seeing a pic of my first "grail doll" (Iplehouse Vito, though it's changed to Andrew now). She browsed the internet and ordered her RS Ariel. I fell in love with her doll and wanted my own again, and she showed me JunkySpot and how I could actually afford one and have it delivered soon. I was thrilled and we picked out a sculpt and ordered it within the month.

I mainly got him as a sort of "brother" sculpt to hers (they both have the pointy ear thing going on)but she never made a character for hers. So I guess the main reason I got him was impulse/price/attempt at bonding with a friend.

I wouldn't trade him for anything though.

    9. I was looking for a mature sculpt for a price within my budget. I was really hoping for an SD, but I was willing to settled for an MSD since they were more affordable. What really pushed me to get my Anneke is the event she was a part of- it made her an SD within my price range and I also got an event doll! I honestly just stumbled upon her and thought she was so pretty, and then the event made everything fall into place. :)

    10. I was lured into bjd hobby by volks sd girl (later i found out that they are so big and expensive so i erase them from the list). I was looking mature sculpt but have cute face so i can still photograph it nicely, so i found out msd size. After a few month looking around, i noticed that many people own minifee. And i found her, my grail, which have big eye and cute lips, minifee celine. Just ordered her and i hope she will come on july. Its my birthday ^^

    11. My first doll was Felix Brownie. And it was without reason, I just wanted this doll. I saw this little miracle and understood that want it. Since that time we are together

    12. My reasons for choosing my first doll?

I didn't want my first doll to be too expensive and I wanted to buy my doll through European dealer to make it simple. So I chose a company with good reputation and browsed their site for a MSD-sized girl who wouldn't be too child-like and horribly expensive. :XD: And that's how I found my Resinsoul Fa. (After that things have escalated in six months to European artist dolls and Doll Chateau creatures, but that's another story.)

    13. I was mainly drawn to BJDs because I thought they would make an amazing, large ghostly doll -- white skin, pupil-less eyes, fancy period clothes, long, ethereal limbs, pale, wispy wigs . . . But I ended falling in love with a tiny, chubby, smiley little elf. She's so cute and I liked that her body was different from more traditional doll shapes. She was my only one for a few years and I still don't have my giant ghost girl, but I will one day, and I've had fun in the mean time.

    14. Love of the sculpt was my main reason for choosing Lati M as my first doll. He was one of the most expensive dolls on my wishlist ($600+ once shipping, faceup, clothes, etc were added in), but he was my favorite. I was only making minimum wage at my part time job, so it took me 5 months to save up, but it wasn't too bad since I was still in high school and had no bills or day-to-day living expenses. I also ordered directly from Lati since I wanted the full doll ordering experience for my first time.

    15. At first I was going to get a Bobobie Apollo, because it was cheap. Then after searching the internet and hearing people's advice of "get the one that you want instead of the one that's most convenient" I ended up getting a doll twice as expensive. I wanted the Mystic Kids Milo because he's cute and I wanted an SD. xD Though I've heard good things about the company in terms of stringing and all that.

    16. I purchased my first doll while I was at the KBJD show a little over a month ago. I knew I wanted to leave with a doll but I didn't want to go overboard. Rosey the flower fairy (Elfdoll) stood out to me as a good option, so I bought her. I can't wait to add to my collection.

    17. I fell in love with Dollzone's Morphoa years ago. I loved everything about her from her sculpt to her clothes to her face up. The only problem was that I didn't have any money so I stepped away for a while. When I came back, Dollzone was planning to discontinue her. I ordered her on the very last day of the event and I haven't regretted it once.

    18. The first time I saw Asa EID from Iplehouse, I fell instantly in love. Hypnotised. I HAD to get her. I would have love to buy her in the Tokyo Story outfit, but it was too late...

    19. Personally I looked around for a fair while initially I wanted a doll for an established character that wouldn't break my bank... then I totally fell in love with the luts lolly, threw my original plans out the window and said I'm gonna turn her into a character no matter what because she's just too cute X3 and I did :3

    20. Uhh...this is probably not the best way to choose a first doll, but I saw mine on Evilbay and I just loved him, instantly. He was a secondhand, Resinsoul Jun. And I just fell in love. At the time, he was actually in my price range (before I learned about layaway XD) and he was in great condition. I did do some research on him. And I contacted the owner for all the info I could get on him. But, yeah, I bid on him and ended up winning the auction. (I also fell in love with his brother, a grey Resinsoul Jun. He was my second doll. He was bought from the same owner. )
So, that was how I chose my first doll. I still love him and his bro just like I did when they first came to me. :)
