Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I got my first doll because she was inexpensive and I wanted to make sure I would like bjds. I also learned that I don't like slim mini's.

    2. Iโ€™ve been dipping my toe into collecting dolls (all dolls really) for a long while now. I have loved BJDs for years but I worry about how committed I am to the hobby so I wanted to get a smaller and cheaper doll to be my โ€œpracticeโ€ doll. I donโ€™t want to be scared to handle him or as scared about messing him up some, such as doing face-ups or doing improvements.

    3. Well I am in love with Fairyland's Chloe sculpt but I really wanted an SD sized doll and I missed out on the F60 so as I was looking I came across elf Chloe in the F65 and she caught my eye. At first I did not understand what i would do with an elf so I just passed her over but she was always on my mind and I caught myself constantly looking at her. So I have ordered her and now the real struggle is clothing for her because she is a little bit to big to fit in most standard SD sized clothing. :pout:

    4. Black Friday sale. Yup.

I was dithering around a number of MSD sculpts (I knew I wanted a big fella but didn't quite have the funds for an SD that I liked, so the size was easy to choose). Then opportunity struck and I was just like "screw it, I'm diving in." I chose a Doll Leaves Royal based on a couple of reviews I'd seen and his cute face. I realize this probably wouldn't work out for a lot of people, but it's been great for me haha I love him lots, and like other people have said, the low price has been very freeing. Super positive experience

    5. For my first doll I didn't had any precise thing that I wanted, I felt in love ! The price wasn't so big, the custom was wonderfull and she was just incredibly lovely. Now I think that I will think twice before and choose a blank doll to custom it.

    6. Honestly, I wanted my first doll to be special, but in the end I bought as cheap a fantasy SD as I could find new, due to disapproving family. I would have been more than willing to save longer for one of my dream dolls, but I was given a price limit. Some people just cannot stand seeing others spend their own money on things they would never purchase themselves! :|

    7. My first doll actually came from a friend on facebook asking me if I would buy her doll. She was going SD and wanted her doll to go to a home where it would be spoiled. She knew I hadn't bought a doll yet and asked me if I would buy her's. She cut me an insanely great deal on a minifee Rheia. Needless to say the Rheia has been very very spoiled in my care.

    8. My first doll was a second hand Jodie from DC. I honestly got him because he was discounted and I wanted to get a cheaper doll to start with before I spent any big bucks on a larger doll before realizing that bjds weren't my cup of tea. That and it was all I could convince my husband to spend at the time because he thought paying over $200 for a doll was pretty stupid. Once I got Jodie home my husband had a big change of heart and even looked at getting one himself.

    9. My first BJD chose me .... naaaa! hahaha i chose for her beautiful face and feel some special connection with her. is EID Bibiane for Iplehouse.

    10. He hasn't come in the mail yet :|but I chose my first because I was in the midst of developing his character and the sculpt was perfect. I knew I wanted an SD (he's 17) and his face was too perfect to pass! I didn't want a common doll (the hipster side of me came out XD) and I'm currently obsessed with him <3 He's san Illusion Spirit Zero

    11. I planned to get a girl doll, but I somehow ended up with a boy doll. It kind of worked out that way, but I am glad I get to dress a boy. I still want a girl doll to dress in royal hanbok.

    12. Mine was simply that I fell in love with him. I did consider getting a smaller one for my first doll, but in the end I knew I had to get him.

    13. Right now I am basing on my first buy on cost and looks. Still haven't found the right combo yet. :-)

    14. I love fantasy creatures and fantasy dolls. I hoped, that my first doll will be Ada by DC, I mssed the time, when they sold her. But I saw one little creature on the website The mushroom peddler. :) Itty-Bitty Raven inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. It was love at first sight, because i love stories by Edgar Allan Poe and the raven is my favourite poem. So, he is mine now :)

    15. I picked Dikadoll Finn as my first bjd doll because I was drawn to him when I first saw him, I couldn't take my eyes off him I loved his style his face everything about him. Night and day I would look at his picture. Actually when I first saw him I had no idea he was as tall as he was when he arrived, I was so focused on him I didn't care about the measurements so then I went and brought him right away, and when he got home he was a giant doll I was thinking he was going to be a tiny little doll. I was even more happy with him. :)

    16. My very first (and only) doll was choosen by impulse. I was pretty sure I wanted a big boy, but, since I couldnt afford a SD I decided I would start with a little guy. I looked through a lot of shops and a lot of molds, and I was pretty much convinced.
One day, I was surfing through Dollmore, and I found my Torrie. It was a girl, child alike, and it was opposite of what I wanted but... I had to have her. I never regreted getting her, though I still want my family to be formed by guys, she is my little spoiled one. She didn't followed any of the requirements I wanted for my dolls, but seven years has passed and i'm still in love with her as much as the first day, even more!

    17. This one day when I just typed "bjd satyr" into the google searching box and a Resinsoul Yao popped up.
I fell immediatly in love with her because i like satyr, fawn, etc creatures. I never knew that there are bjds like this
out there because I was very very new in the hobby. So i just typed it for fun.
After that I wasn't able to get this doll out of my head and that is the reason why I ordered her as my first doll :)

    18. It's funny really how I came to receive my first doll. I just discovered Bjd (this is a year ago mind you) and I literally knew nothing about them, like zilch. I was so in love I started franticly looking for definitions, pictures, honestly anything I could get my hands on because oh my god what was a Bjd and why were they so pretty! After a bit of research I was convinced I would have one, I had to have one. Being my crazy self I decided my very first Bjd would have to be a big one and for me that meant owning a SD size. After that it was off to Denver Doll because I had no idea what Luts, Iplehouse, Soom, ect were. Well for some odd reason no matter how many doll's I would look at my page would always go back to Doll Zone's April. She's not the best, she's not the most beautiful but to me she was perfect! Better then perfect it was love. I would stare at the Doll Zone April for month's to come until finally my boy friend caught me doing it on a date. And wow was that the most embarrassing conversation that could have happened but he was so accepting and sweet. He, while working started doing research on Bjd's as well and what do you know he decided that for Christmas he would surprise me with April. I knew what would be in the box as soon as I saw it. I had watched so many box opening's at that point that when I saw the big long box my heart stopped and I started getting emotional. (Also embarrassing) But he was so happy for me and I was so excited. It was honestly the best Christmas and best present I had ever received. <3

    19. I've collected dolls (mostly articulated antique and vintage dolls) for years but my collections changed completely once I found bjds. It felt like these were the dolls I was looking for. Finally here was everything I was looking for in a doll hobby. I can totally customize a doll from head to toe and that's what you are supposed to do! It all made sense and I was hooked. I bought a second hand Resinsoul Long, no waiting.

    20. My first doll has chosen me herself.
I saw her and understood that she has to be mine.
I liked everything about her: her body, her face, even her outfit. =)
