Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. this may sound weird but the first doll i had kept appearing in my dreams for consecutive days. he wasnt my first choice before, but i felt he wanted me to get him... he was very persistent i wasnt able to sleep after i dreamed about it... he was also the one who told me what name to give him (i already have a name prepared for him but he didnt like it >_>)

    2. Mine was because of my original character I wrote a story for :) I became a fan of Migidoll and decided that I will buy Miho. I had to research well on which body would be suitable for the character at that time and it was Fdoll.

    3. Luts kdf Ani was my first doll, I chose him because he fits the character I had in mind, his facial expression was perfect and he looked somewhat racially ambiguous I thought which is what I like. I looked through many shops and when I came across ani I just knew he would be a good doll to get started in this hobby :)

    4. At first i was just looking for one that was aesthetically pleasing, but there were so many I liked so I made a general outline of the look I wanted my doll to be so it'll be easier to search for a sculpt that could embody what I had in mind.

    5. I choose dikadoll Finn as my first doll because it was love at first sight, lol that's all I can say about that. :D

    6. I had run into BJD's on dA, and fell instantly in love. I did loads of research and looked at different companies and their dolls. Not sure how it happened, but i stumbled on Ail's website, and saw sweet little Daryl, and my heart was lost. I just couldn't stop thinking of her little nose and cute little mouth. I think I debated for a long while, but reasoned with myself that it was perfect to get her, because she was about half price of the bigger dolls and she wasn't that big, so it would be easier to get familiar with the hobby through her, bla bla bla, totally talked myself into it

    7. My first doll is Doll Chateau Cyril. Although I'm not a fan of most Doll Chateau dolls, I kept going back to look at him over and over again. I fell in love with his soft, melancholy expression and his sweet cheekbones. :whee:
When choosing dolls I like, I usually tend to look at how their face looks first, then their body. But the shape and overall feeling of the face is most important!

    8. Well my first was luts forgotten story xia and it was love at first sight i did want uriel to but i dident have the money and mom god i dont even whant to think about how mad she woulde have been if i had goten him to :shudder Considering how mad she was over Ran(xia) :nowords:

    9. When I bought my first doll I thought that purchasing directly from an Asian company or waiting several months for a doll was a very high risk for something to go wrong, so I went through a dealer in my own country and only picked from what was in-stock. I also didn't want to spend a whole lot because I wasn't sure if it was a hobby that I would really get into. I bought a Bobobie Espree from DDE for around $150, and that was a lot of money to me! I still prefer to buy through dealers, but I have ordered directly from the company and I'm not afraid to do that anymore. I've also spent way more than the price of my first doll, too, but I still think it's a lot of money. XD

    10. For me I just did a lot of researching to find the perfect doll that would be enough to satisfy me for awhile and also prefer to buy straight from the company them selves rather than dealers since it means less in-betweeners and stuff like that. My first happened to be an Aileen Lapis dragon which kept me happy for awhile until I got the money for human bjd.

    11. I chose my Bobobie Elena because the company has a good rep for quality and I liked her face, such a serious, slightly sad expression and I really wanted a taller doll (I like the bigger dolls more, I think). I was lucky because she came up second-hand on ebay so I got a good deal on the price. I was nervous about committing a lot of money as I have never seen an Asian bjd doll in real life and I wasn't sure of what to expect. But I love her and can't wait for her to come home painted up. Neither myself or my daughters can stop stroking the resin, which I realise is not good for a painted doll! :D

    12. I was hunting for a dollhouse doll, 1:12 scale. I wanted something different than the usual fabric and wood dolls. What I came across was a BJD tiny..I was stunned! That something so small could be so perfect was beyond me. When my little elf arrived I knew I had chosen right. Then I came in here to show her off and started to get very distracted by all the other BJD's and the bigger dolls!!..I'm doomed, doomed...

    13. For years, I'd told friends in the hobby I was only ever going to buy one doll. And that doll was going to be an Iplehouse Felix. I was planning to lavish him with clothes and hair and eyes, and never buy any other dolls. Of course I was naive back then and didn't realize how hard those big Iple boys can be to dress! But I digress... Despite loving this doll for so long, he has not ended up being my first doll, nor is he even in my collection as of right now.

My first doll, an April Story Raven, was bought for three reasons:
-His sculpt matched the face of a character I wanted to shell (this character is part of a planned group my GF and I have created)
-He became marked down to almost half price when April Story went through its change in the summer earlier this year
-If I did not buy him then, he was going to be gone forever!

He was a bit of a sudden purchase. But he makes me very happy ^_^
Now I have two dolls, with a third on the way. So much for only having one doll!

    14. To be honest, it was price+sculpt I love. I couldn't justify spending 300+ on a doll and not be sure if I wanted to continue in the hobby. My first doll was a ResinSoul Gang. The price was great, and the Gang sculpt is super versitle. Still very happy with my choice. :3

    15. I chose my MSD Island Doll Aggie because she was affordable, cute, and most importantly, suited my character perfectly!

    16. My first doll has been more of an impulse choice than anything else. As soon as I saw her company photos, I knew that I had to have her. Although, before I got her, I was contemplating and had a list of dolls that I wanted to get as my first, but that was all thrown away in the end. x'D

Anyway, I think that even though my first doll was quite costly, seeing as she was a limited edition [although, looking back, I've been thinking that maybe I should have had just gotten the basic version of her seeing as I didn't even purchase her stock clothes. ;;]. In the end, I think it's still worth it, seeing as I really like her, and it just makes me feel happy that I don't regret buying her and all.

That, and I think that it's important that you should like your first doll. After all, I think that if you don't have that much good experiences with your first doll, then you might end up not liking the hobby or something like that. That's just my own opinion, though.

    17. I'm going to be honest, price was a big factor for me. I sat down and went through what I could soend and still meet all other financial obligations and then I only looked at sculpts in that price range. (Like wedding dress mentality, only try on what you can afford.) I fell in love with a sculpt, gave it a few days to see if I still liked it and purchased it. A year later and I still think she's the prettiest doll ever.

    18. Love at first sight XD One of the first company websites I ever visited was from Luts. I started browsing their 1/4 dolls (my favorite size) and then I saw him. I saw a Bory RSB. I fell in love with him in that exact moment. Even after searching and looking at more dolls, I still wanted Bory RSB. So, I decided I would definitely buy him as my first doll *u*

    19. My first doll was a spur of the moment thing. I knew I wanted at least one minifee, but I couldn't make up my mind. Then I saw a great deal on one on ebay and I happened to have the money so I got it. I was in love with her when she arrived, and I'm still in love with her. My second and third dolls seem to have followed suit. The first doll I researched and decided I loved and planned for, I have since rehomed. It would seem like "love at first sight" is important to me.

    20. I got my first BJD on ebay. She was the one that called out to me. Her price was reasonable as far as these dolls go, and I liked that she was done and here in the US where I am. I could see her, get her right away, and not wait months for an order to be done.
