Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. The thing that always catches my eye is the lips and the nose. If the nose is weird, it's a no go, and if the lips have too much of an overbite then it's not my thing. But gosh, fat lower lips really do it for me. Lips are SO important in choosing a doll to me.

    2. My first doll was SD size, which was I hesitate most to buy because of the size. At that time I visited a site which sales MSD and USD girls only and think one day when I buy a doll, I'll bring her at first. But one of my friends told about one SD boy that it has little bit different beauty it has compare with past dolls that the company made. I just feel curious, and visit that company website... and definitely fall in love with that SD boy! Furthermore, it was the last day that I can order it! So I did it. lol. although he still doesn't have body yet, but still it is my first love. haha.

    3. I remember the first time I saw her face, I was browsing ebay and it just stuck with me, I couldn't get her out of my head! She was within my price range and I found out MoC had her in stock and I just could not pass her up! It ended up being a great decision because I think she's been the perfect first doll! I have plans to buy a Fairyland doll next and I'm glad I didn't go with Fairyland as my first doll...no particular reason, I just feel like I'll appreciate one more now that I've been introduced to the hobby with a less expense doll that I haven't been too afraid to experiment on a bit! :)

    4. I'm currently waiting my first doll. My sister is in the Hobby, and so are at least four of my friends, and I have to be sincere, I usually kind of tried to resist to go on websites and so on... but, I didn't resist watching my sis' and my friends' photos and dolls and so... here I am, waiting for her.

I chose her because I find myself liking the small dolls and the child-like dolls, but still pretty realistic. I'm currently waiting for a B.I.D. Bonnie, and I just fell in love with her ^^.

She will be shelling an OC linked to Sherlock world, but I think I will tell her story when she arrives ^^.

    5. I was looking around ringdoll for quite a while and he was just so perfect. ;;
      I also think the fact he was wearing glasses in his stock photos might of had something to do with it too. xD;;

    6. MengHe StyleB? <<

Well, I am still waiting for my first as my birthday is in a few days... but I looked over so many sites.... I love the ones the most in whose faces I can see... something lifelike.... I always look at the eyes and lips... they are the most important thing to me....

    7. for me the first doll i got was because it was cheaper, i wanted to make sure the hobby was for me before i spent hundreds of dollars investing in it. im happy with her shes small but helped me realize i love it :D

    8. Mine is a long story. I first saw the doll who became my first on a friend's blog and absolutely fell in love with her. She was so beautiful and melancholy. I couldn't get her out of my mind. I didn't think my friend would ever sell her, but I decided that if she did, I'd make an idiot of myself begging her to let me bring her home.

Cut to Superbowl Sunday. About halfway through the game, my friend posts on FB a list of the dolls who were staying - and said everyone else was up for sale. Fawn wasn't on the list. I think it took me all of about a minute to message her. About five minutes later, she replied: "She's yours." (cue the Dance Of Joy here.) I'd never seen a BJD in person before I opened Fawn's shipping box. She was so much more in real life. (I can go on and on about her. I love this girl.)

And as it turned out, I didn't have to make an idiot of myself. :)

    9. That's actually a pretty darn good idea! That way you're not spending an arm and a leg on a hobby that you're not even sure you'll like yet. I like the way you think! There is one doll that I want to be my first, and she's from Iplehouse (their dolls are pricey). She's expensive, but I haven't come across another doll like her. To me she has the perfect sculpt and facial expression. In my eyes she's very pretty. She costs around $700. Yikes! For a first doll, that sounds like quite the bit of money. Still, I've looked around and around on plenty of doll websites and haven't come across a doll I want as badly as her. I'm saving up for that Iplehouse Yur in the meantime.

    10. Not only for my first doll, I always choose dolls which came in my dream; I really desperate to buy it. haha. There're lots of adorable things and I also think about them adorable!. But when that 'adorable' thing rounding in my mind again and again, than I choose to purchase it. My first doll was like love sick. lol.

    11. I didn't really choose my first doll as she was a surprise gift from my friends for my birthday :XD: My other lovelies were chosen usually when I chanced to see other doll owner's pictures, and I liked the sculpt.

    12. I was looking at dolls on ebay, and saw Limhwa to you Sara. She's a 1:6 scale mature tiny, which seemed like a perfect size, and her face was beautiful. Also, the price was really good.

    13. My first doll was a FL Littlefee Ante in NS. I wanted my first doll to be small. So pukifee and littlefee seemed absolutely ideal. I had an extremely hard time deciding on which sculpt to go with because I personally love all of FL sculpts. I chose Ante because at the time I hadn't seen a lot of her, and I loved the way her ears stuck out. :dance

    14. I chose a Bobobie Apollo as my first doll, partly because I wanted to spend less for my first doll to see how it would go at first, but mostly because I love his sweet face and how flexible the sculpt is. I still love BJDs, I'm having a lot of fun with faceups so far, and I'm not dead yet, so it worked out well. ^^

    15. I wasn't quite sure whether I'd be in the hobby or not, so I searched for a BJDoll wich was well made and affordable. I had much luck, for my first doll was exactely the way I wanted. :)

      Have a beautiful day/ week as well :) <3

    16. I knew that since I am underage, I'd have to have to save up my money, and give it to my parents so they could order it, and I knew that they would find it silly to spend over 100$ on a doll, which led me to finding Bobobie Isabella, and the more I looked at her photos, I kept seeing my OC Cheyenne in her, and fell in love. I can't wait for her to be shipped, and on her way home! :)

    17. Semi long story behind it... At first, I didn't think I'd be in this hobby at all, because there weren't any dolls that spoke to me.
Firstly. My younger sister started the bjd bug. She had 4 bjds that she had purchased years before my youngest cousin and I started the hobby too.
My sister and I have always had a very strained relationship (we were super close till we hit our teens), and my youngest cousin was always more of a sister to me. The more I saw their dolls, the more I wanted one too, and also wanted to somehow build more of a relationship with that.
I looked for a while, a long while, but I wasn't knowledgeable of many brand names. My cousin and sister both have older and less expensive sculpts. They also had nothing bigger than msds, and were making lots of plans to have their dolls meet and hang out.
I have to admit... I was a little jealous.

I kept looking for MSDs that fit what I was looking for while also fitting with plans my sister and cousin had in ways. I was looking for something similar to one of OCS from one of my favorite MMOs (a game which ended permanently). I would make 3-4 dolls based off old OC's that were made in the game. Then I liked teeth, mature faces, curvy/ semi muscular figures, and things most others aren't always fond of. Things I noticed most SDs had, but I needed to find in an MSD.
At first, I eyed a Bobobie Pandora. She was alright, i liked her teeth, but didn't feel motivated to click. Problem with her was there wasn't many owner pics that I thought looked good. She was also a lot larger than my sister and cousins dolls. I started watching box openings of her, and that went to box openings of other doll brands.
That's when I came across an iplehouse box opening.
It was love at first sight, so bad, my jaw literally dropped. I was giddy as a school girl, pointing to the computer monitor trying to get my husbands attention (made him think I swallowed my tongue). At first it was Cecile's glare that drew me, but just before I got her there was a banner for the newest doll, which was an Isar. I saw her, and Isar was it. She was the one who fit everything I wanted, except for the teeth (which Violet perfectly and coincidentally had not much later).
I needed a doll the size of my sister's dolls and my cousin's dolls. Mature face, curvy body, smoother joints. Although the price was higher than the ones I was shown and looking at before. I had planned to spend for a doll, and did everything i could to pay her off asap. It was worth it, I love the doll, love that she brought me a bit more closer to my sister, and that it gave me more reasons to communicate with the people I care a lot about. My first doll had exactly, and did exactly what I wished for.

This is a nice thread, thank you so much! Have a nice day! :)

    18. Well when choosing my first doll I was just shopping around until I could find a doll that fits perfectly for my character. When I found it was totally unexpected, but I knew she was it.

    19. My reason for choosing first doll is love!
I wasn't going to buy BJD. Just over a year watched pictures on the forum and on the websites of the companies. I really liked DollZone Shoyo with cat ears and Soom Amber. But they were sold out :(
When I saw Ringdoll Shao, I fell in love! :aheartbea Half a year I thought about him and was afraid that he too will be sold out. I could not stand it! My first doll was Ringdoll Shao :)

    20. I chose the 1/4 Mystic Kids Illy as my first doll. I decided to go for an MSD because I didn't want something quite as big as an SD, but still wanted him to be a decent size.

I had been referred to the Junky Spot by an online friend who has BJDs, so it was the only shop that I was familiar with in the US. It was also one that my friend had gotten things from in the past so I knew they were good.

I was actually considering getting a doll from the Luts shop, but I felt impatient and decided I wanted to get something from a US shop to save on wait time. The Mystic Kids brand is also cheaper and I think the dolls look a bit more mature (at least between the Luts and MK dolls I was deciding between).

Mystic Kids was having a 10% off event, which also was a deciding factor since I wanted to make sure I got it during the sale.

Of course, appearance mattered. I saw a doll that was to my liking. If I hadn't, I would have gotten something else from a different site.
