1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. For one, I wanted to order through Denver Doll Emporium because of shipping, and I guess it came down to price. I wanted to ease into the hobby carefully, so buying 5stardoll Becca made sense :)

    2. I looked at a lot of dolls back in 2005 when I was deciding who I wanted to try and get first. I knew I wanted an SD-size doll, but there were so many that I wanted, and they were mostly still very hard to get back then. I was probably looking through posts on DoA when I saw a picture of a smiling one-off Volks SD13 Mimi, and that smile was what won me over. I knew I couldn't get that doll in particular, but I bought the standard version and haven't regretted it for a second since the moment I decided. There was just something special about her - I guess I went mostly on instinct. But that instinct has held true - don't tell the others, but if I had to keep only one doll, it would still be her.

    3. My first doll was also gotten from The Junkyspot, a mystic kids Julien. They were having a sale where you could get a free face up for any instock doll and you could get a free nano hujoo freya as a extra gift. It was the best option price wise (and I love cats so getting a cat doll was a bonus.) And since the doll was instock I received it really fast which helped a lot cause if I had to wait nervously for my first doll I think I would have went bonkers haha.

    4. I had been pinning bjd's on pinterest and realized that the majority of my pins were the same doll with different face ups and looks. So, she was the first doll I've ordered (hopefully I will get her next month!)

    5. I looked at the company picture of the doll and it looked almost exactly like I imagined my character to be so I knew I had to have her.

    6. Actually, I did a lot of jumping around when deciding to get my first doll. At first, I was going after Mystic Kids Francis, and then I jumped over to Granado Jaden, then Ringdoll Lucifer. I finally decided to go with Souldoll Lester because of his size. That, and his face is just absolutely gorgeous.

I really liked the other sculpts, but I realized that I was more in love with their styling, more than their actual face sculpts.
(Although Granado Jaden still somewhat has a hold over me).

Eh, if money weren't a factor, maybe I'd go after them all again one day. LOL

    7. The reason I'm choosing my first doll is because I love the face :P an second is the price (lol :D) the third one is, at that time the company is coming to my country to attend convention, so they will bring dolls which the customer already pay three months before the convention, so I don't have to pay the shipping fee >< and no worries about the doll broken while being shipped, etc. since the company packed him and bring him with them :D then the customer can pick up the dolls at their booth in the convention

    8. I discovered these dolls in 2006 - knew I couldn't begin to afford them at that time but I kept thinking about them. I'm an anime freak - so when I actually COULD think about getting dolls I decided to make a cosplay group & pick sculpts that could cosplay various anime characters. I had been doing research so had a good idea about what companies etc I wanted. I really wanted the more realistic looking dolls, ones that did NOT look like teenagers - male dolls that looked like MEN, female dolls that looked legal age - etc. So I chose to go w/a 1/3 scale for my dollie world - ie 1/12 dolls as babies/toddlers, 1/6 as preschool, 1/4 as grade school & middle schoolers, SD 10/13/YID as teens & SD 17/70cm/SID & EID as adults. Dexter appeared on the IH website at just the right time to order - so I made a layaway. First doll to actually arrive was a 1/6 Dragon Doll girl I bought 2nd hand :D I made lists & have stuck w/it ever since :D

    9. I just happened to stumble upon a Pullip owner's blog and saw pukifee, that's when I know I wanted a doll from Fairyland~ Then the Halloween promotion went on and I saw Littlefee Pong Pong and I just loved him in first site~~ So i ended up ordering him along with pukifee Mio >3<

    10. I have wanted an MSD since I first discovered the hobby (2007) and have been haunting it since. I finally picked a Bobobie Pixie as my first doll because I just loved her face. Those huge eyes and sly smile! Before that I was very partial to Dollmore and DIM dolls and leaned more towards semi-realistic facial sculpts (or dolls with fangs) I adore faeries though and have a massive soft spot for them (I make cloth faerie dolls) The range of resin colours was total icing. I love vivid skintones! I came up with a concept for her and was off and running. Now she is in production and her accessories are all on their way thanks to my boyfriend (yay for birthmasaversery presents!)

    11. My first BJD was by Volks cos I felt they had the aesthetic and quality that I was yearning for. Since then I've gotten dolls from other companies, but have rehomed them cos they just couldn't live up to my expectations.

    12. Still haven't gotten him but my first is a DC Douglas. Mainly waiting and will buy his body from dollzone.
I had to get him since when I saw him I was inspired instantly and a character just appeared before me. So I felt he was special.

    13. It just was love at first sight :D

    14. It was a sweet deal. I'd be stupid to pass it by. :>

    15. I bought the cheapest 70 cm doll I could find to test if I had what it took to stay in the hobby for the long haul.
My very first doll was a Resin Soul 70 cm Feng boy with factory face up I'd bought from Denver Doll Emporium.
I've always had expensive taste in dolls because I like powerfully built males with a more detailed anatomical structure and proportionate bodies with muscles.
But the dolls I wanted were very expensive, and no-way I was going to spend $650+ on my first doll, especially when I didn't know if I would stay long in this hobby.

    16. My first BJD doll was a Pukipuki from Fairyland. I choose her because I saw a Pukipuki for the first time during a meeting. At this moment, I only saw MSD and SD BJD during doll meetings but I'm not into large sizes so I wasn't interessed by these dolls. When I saw this Pukipuki, I fall in love with her and I spend a big part of the afternoon doing pictures of her. This day I knew if I buy a BJD later, it would be a Pukipuki.

    17. was searching for one that'd suit a character of mine and found on Alicescollections one I loved then found that he was already in stock. He caught my eyes instantly and I adore him.

    18. I always wanted an Iplehouse YID but never thought I'd be able to spend that much on a doll. Then I saw the Luts Mia fox limited and I really really really wanted her but talked myself out of it. Bumed I'd never get a doll I roamed around for a more affordable option and found ebay. From there I found a seller/dealer then I saw Doll Family H Zhi Yan and thought minus the pink clothes she's adorable and a great place to start, and at a discount of $150 shes not bad plus free wig so half the customizing is done for me. Sometime before she was ready from the same seller I ordered a limited set outfit that was nearly $100. I was so happy when I got her (having spent more than 400usd on her already) my 3rd dolls price diden't bother me. I guess she helped pull me in she is still my most spoiled doll.

    19. I wanted a 1/4 male doll that wasn't too big but also didn't look like a child... in the end I went for theOrientDoll IL and TAE, cause I liked the proportions... they're smaller than normal, but look like adult men nonetheless

    20. I was looking for unusual sculpts and was planning to do a scar mod on the face, so when I found out that ImplDoll had a MSD doll with scars built into the face sculpt, I checked it out and absolutely fell in love. Avery is totally unique and was well within my price range, so I bought him through Denver Doll for my birthday this past summer.
