Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. Hm,.. When Im thinking about this, I cant remember why him.. Probably he choosed me that time. :)

    2. I choose my first doll because he was affordable and I liked his face, I also got him because the owner was telling me about how he was just sitting on a shelf and had never done anything so despite his age and yellowing I went ahead and bought him. He was a Resinsoul Song~

    3. I chose EID Jessica in real skin because I liked her face and skintone and EID figure was quite unusual. It was something new on comparison with slim SDs.

    4. I just bought my very first. It's a JID Boris and I bought him because he is a lot like an OC of mine called Evan. He just had the right little smirk and I liked the eye shape, too. He won't be an elf but...maybe I can do something about it. :D

    5. I chose a Bobobie Espree and a Bobobie Sprite as my first dolls (I ordered them at the same time to be twins) because they suited the characters I had planned and they appealed to me aesthetically. The fact they're less expensive than a lot of dolls was not a major factor in the decision, although it was a nice bonus.

    6. my first doll was a lati yellow lea. I know she is extremely common but she was just too cute. I fell in love with her over flickr and knew I needed to bring her home. She still has pride of place on my shelf. However choosing her was easy it was love at first sight. My second doll (ordered 6 days ago) was a little trickier to choose. I knew I wanted bigger so I spent about 2 Weeks looking at msd and yosd size girls. In the end I chose a resinsoul Ya. I know many people would think this a cop out cheap choice but thats not why I chose her. My main concern with buying dolls is getting a face I like. And hers was just beautiful. Even blank I could see the potential she had. I cant wait to have her home x

    7. I decided on a DollZone Anita, who I haven't recieved yet, but I'm very confident and happy with my choice. I chose her because 1) DollZone is a well known company 2) I want to test the waters to see if I really want to be in the hobby, and commiting to a larger, more expensive doll may not have been wise 3) I had an idea of what I wanted and she was absolutely perfect for it 4) I felt a connection to her expression and got an idea of her personality immediately from her photos. I just knew she was the ond.

    8. My first doll was a Mori moth peakswoods doll. I bought her on eBay because at the time eBay has this sale where they paid 10% of your purchase. I'm glad she was my first though, she is so cute !

    9. Well, it was there, I had the money, I liked the doll and I wanted something to have to see if I'd really care about the doll once I had it before buying another expensive and much larger one.

I don't regret it, because she was small, cheap, had a face up and clothes and I like keeping her on my computer desk. She makes a great decoration and it helped me make sure I was really interested in the dolls beyond just wanting to own one.

    10. I love Iplehouse sculpts, as I manage to find a doll to fit each of my characters! So I finally had saved enough money and it was time to find a doll for my main character, Harmony. Throughout our comic she tends to make funny faces (she's terribly expressive) so I wanted a sculpt that had my personal favorite wide-eyed look. Lo and behold, YID Freezia was perfect. She was short like Harmony (in comparison to the other characters who will all be on SID or EID bodies) and was making that cute face. I finally found a wonderful seller who had her and after 2 months, she was mine. :)

    11. My one and only doll is Coloara Mlezzlir from B&G's TOW line (I have renamed him Kimaeril Nerien after my Drow Warlock from D&D). I love Drow/Dark Elves and I was at a convention and got to see him in person. I fell in love with him immediately. I had only seen one bjd before and thought she was beautiful, but wasn't sure I wanted to start collecting until I saw him. He's handsome, amazing and I just love him. I'm thrilled to have him.

    12. I chose my first because he was being discontinued. I'd originally planned to get into the hobby slowly, start off with a Hujoo just to get a feel for strung dolls and so I could practice restringing and stuff but it wasn't to be. I think it's probably for the best though as now I get to have the full experience and fall head over heels for my first strung doll.

    13. I did a lot of looking around and searching before I stumbled across Resinsoul. I fell head-over-heels in love with Mei but I was more interested in a normal-eared doll so I went with a Ya instead. I love my girl more than anything, but I'm definitely going back to get a Mei one day. :XD:

    14. I've only just recently got my first doll, and for me it was a combination of a lot of factors. I wanted a smaller doll, partially for financial reasons, but mostly because I'm interested in miniatures in a general way anyway and prefer smaller figures and props. I chose Dollzone in particular for the mature tiny winged body that they make. I've always been a huge fan of fantasy, and I knew I'd want my doll to be something a bit otherworldly, so the tiny fairy suited me perfectly :)

    15. I bought a dc Ada as my first doll, and it was because I loved the sculpt so much. I loved how odd their bodies are. Now I have three!

    16. Like a couple of others have mentioned, I love all kinds of dolls and I have always wanted an antique French Fashion doll. But as I started looking closely at them, I began to realize that what I really wanted to do was play with them! I had visited the Volks store in Torrance for years and almost bought a SD but never quite plunked down the $$. Over the years I have regretted it and, of course that store eventually closed. This year I decided it was time to take the plunge. So I spent hours and hours pouring over every website and picture and finally choose a Doll Leaves 1/3 girl. I picked the Doris face sculpt. I just loved her look. I also felt that I could use that sculpt to make her a french fashion wardrobe or I can make her a modern one...I feel like she can be anything! I also choose the white skin because I love that classic look. Of course, after I ordered her I could not wait so I bought a Bambi Crony Judy on ebay! So I guess she is technically my first one...but I just got Doris and am truly thrilled with her!

    17. My First doll I bought was a Mystic Kids Lillian. Why did I buy her? Well Simple. WE were at a Japanese Culture Convention called Otafest, and my husband pointed out to me that he though Ball Jointed Dolls were kind of cool! I was super excited when I saw one for the first time, I knew I had to have one. I immediately looked them up to try and find out what they were and if I had interest in any of them. The first one that caught my eye was a company called Mystic Kids. I looked at the 1/3s and thought that they were highly expensive and so I decided not to buy them. I then looked at the 1/4 and said they were a decent price. Lillian immediately caught my eye. I do not have a character for her, but I wanted her to be my one normal doll, like the one that most represents me. Crazy eclectic and lovable and she fit it so well! So I told myself she was the one I have to have her. And even though I'm 3 weeks in and waiting for her still and found tons of other dolls I've loved and purchased, My MK Lillian whom I named Gwent has always been my favorite sculpt.:dance

    18. For why I got into the hobby for starters, I've had a love of dolls since childhood, and BJDs in particular in the past few years. However, with their price, I can't expect to afford one. It was only recently that I got really into them again and decided it is about time to save up and get myself!

As for why I choose Karis from Luts in particular as my first doll... Well, he wasn't the one I expected to get actually. I liked a lot of dolls, and I spent weeks looking around different sites at different dolls. I had a list of dolls that I liked, and Karis actually wasn't on it. For some reason though, whenever I wanted to show someone an example of a BJD, I went back to Karis. And he started growing on me. It was like we were meant to be, somehow. :D

    19. I recently got my first doll, a Pipos Minuet. I chose her because I wanted a cat doll with adult proportions. I ultimately decided on her because I liked the sculpt of her face more than any other cat doll I was able to come across, plus I love her stock faceup and body shape.

    20. The sculpt that 'speaks to me' and inspires me the most is the one.
