1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

1. Okay so I haven't chosen a first doll yet. But I get the feeling when I see it, I will know right away that is the doll for me. Well, it's kind of like a love at first sight with me, I hope so at least! Interesting to see what people have to say!

2. i have been interested in BJD for almost 7 years and don't have a doll yet, (i was really young when i first found them and wanted to wait until i could really care and respect them). and in all that time i looked for the perfect doll and then found a beautiful picture of a doll and just knew that was the one, the face up was painted perfectly and i knew she was a perfect doll. i am now buying that doll, the shushu head and luts body a year later and im super happy. :)

3. I've wanted a BJD since I saw the Doll Master when I was 11 or 12 years old, but of course I couldn't afford one and the thought of asking mummy to buy me a £300 doll was daunting so I waited. My first doll (and until my DC Elizabeth gets here, my only one) was preloved and bought on a whim. I knew for about a year I wanted to buy one, but didn't have a sculpt in mind, only characters. I saw him being sold by someone I knew to be anti recast and fairly well known in the community, so I trusted the seller and the sculpt was cute so I just went ahead and did it.

4. My first encounter with BJDs was at A-Kon (a big anime convention in Texas). At first I was kind of creeped out by how realistic the dolls are, but their beauty won me over very quickly! I think that was probably 6 or 8 years ago- and finally last year I was able to justify buying a doll, a Bobobie Ophelia. She arrived in January, and I've already found her the perfect friend (Iplehouse Eric)! Now to save up again! I highly recommend Denver Doll Emporium for first time buyers in the States, they really held my hand through the whole ordering process.

When I found the doll I have now, I knew immediately she was the one for me :) It really was love at first sight!

5. I chose my first doll on a slight impulse. I've known about the BJD hobby for years, and I've seen many of the dolls and I love looking at them. I didn't want to own one years ago, but recently I decided I do. So I was looking beyond the pretty pictures at the care and everything you can do with the dolls. I joined some facebook groups and DOA. I also watched many different youtube videos and read lots of blogs on how to do things, but I'm still kinda clueless when it comes to stuff. When I was looking around at places to buy I made a folder where I would save the page of the sculpts that spoke to me. Then I'd look at them the next week and see if they still spoke to me. I was flip-flopping between a few and started a budget plan to save for a doll, when MoC posted a sale on their facebook page about a Mini Human AE Cordelia they were selling. My grail doll is the 1/3 Mermaid Cordelia. I just love her, or so I thought. I figured I had the extra cash and wouldn't need to budget long to get the one MoC was selling and I figured she'd be a good starter doll. A doll I could learn more about the BJD hobby with and come to terms with the care and how I would handle a doll. While I still think the 1/3 Mermaid Cordelia is beautiful, now that I have my human mini, I couldn't imagine owning a bigger doll. I'm very happy that I bought her, even if it was mostly impulse. ( I did take two days to decide if I wanted it or not, all the while hoping and praying that she wouldn't be sold before I made my decision.)

6. I was in dilemma should i buy a fairyland feeple60 Celine or a rin?
So when i get payed from my job i say ''i will buy one of them'' and i fell across a dreamy rin head (modded) and i say yes i will buy it also her price very good so i think why not!:dance
I have her home already but i need a body so bad QQ! :pout:

7. The sculpt is really handsome. I really love how the face is well put together and I love the eye shape. It's like this almond-shape almost sleepy/lazy eye shape and I find it really adorable. It's also an almost 70cm doll and I absolutely love dolls that big. Big dolls are just amazing to me, 60-71cm anyway.

8. I'm a major newbie at the hobby (as I'm sure everyone can tell by my super recent DoA account, haha) and I've recently picked which is going to be my first doll, though I haven't placed an order yet because I'm waiting for my latest paycheck. In my case I knew I wanted a doll to match a specific character of mine, so I had some conditions I knew I wanted met. I determined what conditions those were (style of face, size, body shape, ear shape since I wanted an elf, whether I liked the customizations/faceups I saw online, price and availability among other things) and made a table on Word with those. Then I went through all the brands listed on the DoA wiki (all the ones with working links at least) and checked them all for dolls that seemed to match my conditions, every time I found one I included the brand and name on the table along with a photo and graded the doll on those characteristics from 0 to 10. Once I was done going through all the stores and models I could find I narrowed down the list based on the grades I'd given them and overall how much I liked the look of them. Eventually I narrowed it down to two, and then I just picked the one whose face I thought was most fitting for the character. And while I haven't placed the order yet and consequently don't have the doll with me yet, I feel pretty confident in my choice and doubt I'll regret it when she arrives. Though I do kinda wish I could afford just buying the two finalists at once, but unfortunately if I want to do that I'll have to wait for yet another one or two paychecks, so I think she can wait, haha.

10. My original intent was for a drawing subject, so I went and bought a cheap MSD doll, which ended up being a Resinsoul Tang.

Took some changing and adjusting but when I actually started putting in effort with them, he ended up being a favorite.

11. I've always been interested in bjds, but I had never had one of my own. My sister had recently become interested in them again, and she introduced me to the Xagadoll site, as well as some others. She gave me a link to MoC, and I browsed the site. I ended up coming back to Xagadoll though. I didn't want something too big, and Xaga's red obsidian dolls were perfect. Lara had a beautiful face, and MoC had her in stock at the time, so... It was kind of an impulse buy. :) Lara became my first bjd, and my sister also got her first bjd a few months later.

12. I knew I was getting a doll from my best friend for a gift, so selected the least expensive one on my list and sent it to her. I wish I'd done more research before I picked her. She's a Leeke Sweet and I love her to pieces, but I would have gotten a different body. The gentle flat body is 2cm taller than regular YoSD so a lot of pants and skirts are too short on her. She also has a huge butt. This makes her skirts seem even shorter, and some clothes just will not fit at all. The outfit my bestie bought for her doesn't fit her because of her huge butt. For the amount she paid for the doll, face up, blushing, clothes, and shoes, I could have gotten a better doll. I love my little Emily, and she's super cute, but she was not a great deal.

13. At first, I knew I wanted an MSD size, so I had my eye on either an Iplehouse JID Tania or a Fairyland Minifee Chloe. I ended up getting a Chloe because I liked the way the Minifee body looks better, especially in the elbows. I know she's a super-popular sculpt, but I don't mind since I don't actually know anyone in real life with a BJD and I was only getting her because I liked her, not to please anyone else. Also, because she's popular, there were so many owner pictures that made me fall for her sculpt even more. :)

14. Mine had angel wings that attached to holes in her her back. When I saw this I decided " Yes, I want this."

15. I really want a dollie from IOS but I'm always in the wrong timing. Like the preorders are up, then I have no money. Then I have money, the preorders already ended.

But I have so many other dollies I'm watching, those that I think were as charming as the guys from IOS.

Uhhhh charming eyes *_*

16. The company pic showed him with red eyes and a red wig. The combination stole my heart! It was a DZ Hid. The wig changed to a wine red one. But he still takes my breath away.

17. Thanks

18. I saw the doll and fell i love then I looked at her and thought "what is she trying to say to me, what's her story" and then she told me and I fell even more in love. Although it did help she was a little more on the cheaper side too :XD:

19. Shamefully I admit - because it was cheap and I didn't know many companies then (only e.g. Iplehouse, DoD and that's all) so I decided to find the cheapest one available in the SD size.

20. Yuns I must say I am very impressed with your elaborate decision making process XD
I'm also new to this hobby and have yet to place an order, simply because I'm tossing up between about five different dolls. I take mental note of the pros and cons for each one but maybe writing things down could be helpful. Congrats on finally deciding on one! :D
