Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. She was cute and the price was right. No regrets, she's so adorable! Simple as that.

    2. I knew I wanted a fairyland doll and after looking at all the sculpts for a while I just attached to Celine and couldn't get her out of my head after that so I had almost bonded with her before she even got here. The problem after that was deciding on a size :|which took forever for me to settle on the feeple.

    3. I just wanted to find "the one," so I trawled through well known doll companies until a sculpt called out to me. I knew I wanted a boy and that he had to be SD sized to go with my wife's first doll, but those were my only parameters.

Honestly, I think the one I chose won out because he had silver hair and I was super Kingdom Hearts obsessed at the time. :whee:

    4. Oh, if to honest, first of all I see a very beautiful doll, it was dollzone Ivan, and I decide to buy him, but then I fall in love with different pipos dolls and decide to sold Ivan.

    5. I wasnt sure if this hobby was 100% for me so looked through the cheaper brands. The RS Mei is a super cute sculpt I really loved and wasnt going to break the bank if I found it wasnt for me.
I'm very happy with her as it happens so I feel more confident about finding *the* doll for me if that makes sense.

    6. I really loved Dollzone's sculpts and style and I thought that MSD is a pretty good size...when I saw cute Leon in stock at Angelesque I knew that he would be my first doll! ^ - ^

    7. Honestly I loved his sweet little face. Plus he was within my price range, as at the time I was also ordering a $600 laptop. So $550-600 for a BJD was the rest of my tax return. XD I love Little Monica's sculpts, and the Little Kliff model was just so cute and exactly who I was looking for as my first doll.

    8. I really loved her face, particularly her nose and her slightly lost expression. She (Doll Love Nichi) was in my price range as a new collector who wasn't 100% sure I was in the right hobby, plus I received 15% off and a free face up due to an event. Finally, she ticked the rest of my "must have" boxes: female, a solid poser, & a standard-sized MSD able to wear most regular MSD clothes, shoes, and wigs.

She was a wonderful intro to the hobby, and I'm still so happy with her.

    9. I'm not going to be able to purchase my first doll for a few months, but I've chosen a minifee Ryeon because I really like the size, the amount of clothes available for mnf, posabilty, and I think the sculpt is perfect for my character. Also, I know what to expect from a mnf, since it's pretty popular, and there's tons of pics/ box openings/ etc so I'm really confident I'll love her. I don't mind the price, I want something nice for my first doll (and most beloved OC).

    10. My first doll was a Dream of Doll Homme Ducan, he just struck a cord with me and he at the time, looked just like my one OC I had back in the day. I saved forever to get him and I had him for years and years! I really treasured him and honestly still do even though he's moved on from me, I like seeing pictures and updates with his new owner who loves him as much as I did when I first got him. :kitty2

    11. For me it was that I found a sculpt that I liked secondhand that wasn't out of my price range at the time. It wasn't my ideal doll though, and now I am debating selling him since I no longer feel any excitement around him, in fact he annoy me more than anything else for some reason. Oh well, that's life I guess. But I think for future people who get into the hobby and plan to get a doll, get a sculpt you really love, don't just settle for price because you want something right away. Give it time and save up if you have to .

    12. At first I didn't really know what I was looking for, but after a ton of research and some time I was able to pin down what I wanted. I was eyeing him for a awhile too and a suprise sale finally pushed me to grab him. And am I glad I did! Originally, the main reason I liked him because he resembled an existing OC of mine.. but then once I got him he quickly grew into his own character. :3nodding:

    13. My first bjd was a PopoDoll Ramiel and my Iplehouse Akando.
Originally I had planned a LUTS Bory to be my first but then I heard that the Akando was being discontinued so he became first on my list, as well as the limited Ramiel. I was scared either would be sold out so before they could be, I ordered them both.

I love my Ramiel because of his creep factor and his uniqueness and I love my Akando because he looks so similar to one of my OCs, so he's actually a shelled OC.

    14. It's hard to describe really. When I saw the product photo her face was so adorable, I just loved her. I just instantly knew that was the first BJD I wanted to have.
However, at the time I wasn't able to afford to buy her and knew there was a chance I might not like her down the line. However, throughout the following year I kept researching that doll, price comparing, deciding what I'd like to make her look like, and all that and in the end, I wound up getting her even if her product photos weren't the best and she had few quality owner photos.

    15. My sister gave me my first "real" doll -- Lil Choco Cat that you see in my icon.
I thought my sister's Fairyland doll May was precious, so I started looking at Fairyland.
Then they had the summer event, with Haru, June and the Hippogriffs! I ordered Haru, and am anxiously awaiting her arrival.

    16. Beautiful nose, general face structure very much to my aesthetic, enchanting promo pictures, and there was a character based on this doll in the game Nameless... Not even my favorite character from the game, but that plus the fact that I couldn't take my eyes off the promo photos made me feel like he was the one. Something just clicked!

    17. My first doll purchase was part research and part impulse. I was really in love with the Miyu sculpt Luts offered back then but SD-sized dolls scared me and they were way beyond my budget. So I started looking into the YOSD size, it seemed like a good choice for a beginner. Not too big, not too small and in general a good balance between price and quality. I wanted my first doll to appeal to me and I wanted her/him to be easy to pose. Littlefee Ante and Leah drew my attention. I just couldn't decide between them so I put off the purchase for a while until a full-set Leah appeared on E-bay. I kind of impulse bought her right then and there and paid way too much for her on top of that.

Do I regret the purchase? Not really, she taught me a lot about the hobby. However she and I never bonded and I noticed after a while that her expression made me feel uneasy. It is a hard choice to make but I believe we'll be parting someday in the future. Her body is currently being used to shell my very first boy. In the meanwhile I also own a Pukifee Ante and a Feeple60 Miyu and amongst others and I love them both to death. My advice for purchasing your first doll? Follow your heart and don't settle for less.

    18. i simply fell in love with it

    19. I stumbled upon a doll person in the lobby of the convention hotel and she invited me to sit with her and play with her dolls. I played with Reika for a while and fell in love. I told her how much I loved her doll and asked where she got it from, and she told me that her sale was pending but if the deal fell through she would let me buy her. Well she ended up letting me buy her. I played with her all weekend and couldn't wait to take her back with me.
