Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. For me, it was all about the faces, then the money. There were quite a few dolls on DoD that I fell in love with, but my wallet said I couldn't afford them. In the end, I settled on a DZ LE Dream XI because I love his face + he was a full set and within my price range.

Someday I'll get the DoD dolls I want though. ^^

    2. I was originally planning on getting the Luts Super Senir Delf Cloud one. I fawned over him for a good two years before I stumbled across Souldoll and their Sharics. I really loved his face and the shape of his eyes were beautiful too. His eye shape wasn't too wide to look innocent, but it wasn't too narrow either. I wanted that sort of detached look and his face was perfect for it. now, him and his pretty dark blue eyes are the most captivating feature ever. I loves him very much.

I'm still gonna get that SSD Cloud from Luts, though. After I manage to get the Souldoll Chiron human version and Ringdoll's Petter. Wonder how long that's gonna take...xDDD

      @ItsGameOver
I love DoD dolls as well. Esepcially the Homme Ducan human version and the No.5 one.

    3. I originally wanted a doll from Volks and was set on her, but had to be put off because she was far out of my budget. Spent a year moping that I couldn't get a bjd, but then I found a company I could afford. I looked through their mini's till I found one I loved! I ended up loving her even more then the volks one I had wanted. My RS Rong is my very lovely first bjd. I got kind of obsessed with her so much that when she did arrive I couldn't ever pick out a name for her, so Rong stayed her name.:sweat Silly thing my next doll already has a picked out name.

    4. I first started looking at bjd when I saw an article in Shojo Beat about them. I had know about them before hand from anime conventions and knew they were super expensive so I never took a second glance. I didn't know much about them, obviously, so I did a search on dollfie and where to find them in the usa. This is how I found Volks.

I really liked the dolls and looked for other, less expensive means of getting them. I think this is when I found out about DOA (which at first I didn't care for but later when I got more into bjds I became obsessed) and Yahoo! Japan... And then I found BJDCollectasy. From there it is all history!

Suddenly I had access to all the dealers and could browse for my dream doll all I wanted. I later found that I could also keep up with new doll releases and company promotions making my purchases go that much further (even though I still have yet to get my first doll, I am planning on getting it soon with a new years promo) :D

How I found my dream doll from there was simple, after years of window shopping I finally got a job and then set up a spending limit and time span for me to get my first doll and then searched in my price range. At first I was expecting to only get a naked no face-up doll and do it all myself or a small sized one to save a little on cost. I was also hoping to get a male doll but after searching was willing to sacrifice it for a female. That is when I found what I wanted.

It may seem silly but when I found him it was really a 'wow' factor moment. I had spent so much time looking and changing my mind and settling and then I just happen upon a doll I could only dream of in my price range and with a promotion in my time span. Not only was it a win-win but it was practically a miracle. So now I am just waiting until my birthday to pay for him. After that I will spend my further paychecks preparing for his arrival!

    5. Aesthetics. RS Mei was my first doll, mainly because I fell in love with that face. Still adore it, and her elegant body as well, even if she remains a marginal poser only, no matter the adjustments.

    6. My first doll was a LUTS Kid Delf Ani. My friend was showing me a doll she wanted (a LUTS Juniper {can't remember the size}) and, at the time, I wasn't really interested in the dolls because of the price. However, after going to a doll meet and deciding I REALLY wanted one, I went back to Luts and shopped around. When I saw the Ani, my heart just melted and I had to have him!!! He was a wedding gift from my husband! :aheartbea:o

    7. Yes, that same thing happened to me, except a little differently. I've decided on a KDF Darae because she's beautiful and was the first doll I ever fell in love with. In fact, she's the one I'm trying to convince my mother to let me buy. Plus, she's got a great body for posing and she's got an all around good, beautiful face. I'm not going to settle, either. Settling (as I've come to understand) will lead to a waste of money...unless a miracle happens and you actually end up loving the doll. I can't wait to get my doll because it's going to be a special moment when I do; it's the moment that I will acquire the current love of my life. :)

    8. My journey into the first.....

Mine was a mix of looks, timing, and complete luck! I actually got into this hobby by complete accident, so I felt I was just barely keeping my head above water when I started. After figuring out what these dolls were (thank you Wiki), I mostly focused on the Volks company since they were first and I thought, at the time, they would be the "best!" But after looking thru most of their sculpts, nothing said "buy me," at least not at the price they were offered ($600!??! REALLY?!!? :o) After that, I discovered DoA, got on, and just started looking around! Angell Studios definitely had my attention when I found them, but I was so scared to spend that much and have something ship from so far away!:sweat

Luckily my younger sister had my back! She knew a friend that was selling her Dollzone Yuu, and introduced us! I did my research on the company and liked what I saw, and especially like the fact that I didn't have to purchase internationally if I bought from her. I was still leery about buying him though since he was huge, but after meeting up with her and actually getting to hold/play with him, I KNEW I had to have him!!:D

End of June 2010, Kiku-yu is still with me, and I got a great friend out of it too!:aheartbea

    9. My first BJD is a Pukipuki Darjeeling Red Rabbit, and I had been stalking Fairyland's website, glomming on the photos of her. I decided to get the full set as a birthday gift to myself for my 36th birthday, with the Fairyland face-up on both faceplates. She arrived the month of my birthday, and though I loved how she looked with her dark brown wig & brown eyes, I was still a bit overwhelmed and not sure I would like her as time went on. Fast forward to today--she is very much loved, and I couldn't even think of selling her. She's so petite and I love that I can take her places without too much effort. Sewing clothes for her is still a bit of a challenge, but I've made a few things for her.

I love looking at photos of bigger BJDs, but the tiny size is the one I really feel at home with. :)

    10. Well, for a while before picking her I'd had a character who was a living doll. Once I found out that BJDs really weren't as impossible to get as I'd thought, I figured that her character would be great to start with--after all, these dolls are so lifelike, why not get one who's supposed to be alive in-story? It took me a long while to decide, a lot longer than I'd thought. I kept looking at the wrong doll for a long time, actually, before finding Feilian. And she was perfect, haha!

In any case--the reasons I had were character and love. I still adore her, though she's going through a massive revamp right now. Never get a first doll you don't like! It'll sour you forever D:

    11. All that I knew was that I wanted an SD doll. The choice of sculpt was purely the first one that I felt "attracted to". I probably should've look around a bit more than I did but I am happy with the decision that I made.

    12. Okay, I barely even count my first doll as my first doll because she wasn't SUPPOSED to be my first doll and my second doll came so closely after that I really would like to consider him my first doll...... But I can't get around the semantics of it. My first doll was an impluse buy off eBay, elfdoll Soah, longish story. But the doll I had intended to be my first doll, migidoll Ryu, I can honestly blame a single individual. Hiritai's Hayden actually got me into the hobby in the first place, and I was so in love with him. -sigh- But once I got my own Ryu, I fell more and more in love with him and to this day he is my favorite.

    13. When I started this hobby, I didn't know many companies. I wanted my first doll to be quite cheap, cute, an elf and I wanted my first doll to arrive quickly. I also wanted my first doll to be MSD, 'cause I thought that yo-sd-sized dolls are too small and SDs are way too big for me. So, I ordered a Resinsoul Mei from Angelesque to avoid custom fees and I haven't regret choosing her.

    14. After looking at several doll sites I came across the fullset BC Roko at the Luts website. I was so in love with her but she was out of stock and was not comming back! So I gave her up back then since I didn't knew that Bambicrony had there own site xD

In the mean while I was looking at the Dream of Doll site where Petcha was one of my favorites but I have never bought her. Several month's later I wen't to a BJD convention where I saw a BC gun and though that it was way to small for me. But there was a shop on that convention with such a beautifull doll! And oh my, I needed to get her. No mather the price, this is perfect. I got in contact with the shop owner and bought her. It was a Peak's Woods Sky Marie Antoinette version :aheartbea

So you can say I need to fall in love with a sculpt before I buy it.
Several years later I added some more sculpt's to my collection including a BC Roko, but non of the doll's I liked from the beginning. I'm glad that I didn't buy them back than, because I don't need to sell them now if I didn't liked them anyway.

    15. It was love at first sight, I said you will be my first child

    16. I chose an avarage size girl doll - msd. I tried to found not so expensive ( maybe suddenly i didn't like bjd in real life) and of course it should touches me. Doll with some additional staff (make-up, eyes, wig and may be some clothes). Also I looked to the company . It should sell a lot of extra things.

    17. I originally discovered my love of BJDs at a panel. (Confession time-- I used to think all BJDS were called "Blythe dolls." Mind you I was most likely 11 at the time I first wanted one and thought that they were called Blythe. Obviously I hadn't done much research at that point.) I was kind of interested in them after seeing them at a previous anime convention I had gone to, but I thought they were creepy. At that point, many people were carrying them around, so I thought that I should know what they were.
I went to a panel a year later to inform myself, age 12, and that's when I saw the Dollfie Dream for the first time. In the heat of my weeaboo phase, I immediately HAD TO GET ONE. I was shocked by the cost though. I was a pretty good saver of money, so I figured I'd get enough.
Flash forward to a month before her purchase-- I started looking at Volks dolls besides DDs, which lead me to poke around the internet looking for more and more dolls that were interesting to me. At some point, one of my favorite artists got a Luts doll, so I poked around Luts for a while, until I saw Kid Delf Ani. When I saw her, I was just in shock and awe. She was so beautiful and perfect and expressive that no Dollfie Dream could even compare. I completely changed my plans in an instant and bought her after about a week of consideration. I could not be happier that I did. (Even though I should've done more research, it ended up working out.) Anyway. That was the long story that is the process of choosing my doll. Eyup.

    18. Like most, I fell in love with my doll when I saw her. She a Lati Green Renia and I got to see her in person at a doll meet up. I thought about it for a week because I wanted to make sure she was the right choice for me. It was all perfect timing for me because I could go and get her from the person's house and didn't have to wait for her to arrive. She's still my favorite little face!

    19. Love at first sight. I'd done a lot of shopping around trying to pick perfect first doll. BJDs are expensive so I decided to start small...then a friend showed me this totally beautiful MSDl that had come up on preorder and I had to have her.

    20. He is beautiful. He was the first bjd I saw, and it was like love at first sight. But then I found out about the cost, so I just forced myself to forget about it. I was only a kid. And 4 years later, I was still thinking about the same doll. Lol I really couldn't forget. And now I have him for a year already. And I love him even more than that first day I saw him.
