Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. For me I bought the dolls I liked the most. All of the dolls I have now are grails of mine, in one way or another. I just love the look and style of them. I knew I didn't want to just buy a cheap doll to "test the waters", so budget wasn't really a concern for me. I wanted to save up for what I really liked.

    2. I didn't go for my "dream doll". But that's all right, because I had a plan.
My first doll is Yo-SD Sized, I bought him because he was really cute, one of the dolls that got my attention quickly: I kept going back to look at photos of those dolls, so I did buy something I really wanted.
I also bought him because he was less expensive, because he was small and small things are easy to handle, and because I wanted something that would pose really good. And the last reason, so I could get prepared until I was able to get my dream dolls, which are SD sized, 60+cm and 70cm [Getting them at first would have been a shock and really weird, I am a tiny person, Y'know], And when I say get prepared, I mean how to care for them, how to play with them, how to do faceups [that hopefully won't suck when the others arrive], the feel of them, even get started in the community.

    3. Well,I bought my first doll because of serval seasons,of course, the first and most important reason is he looks very cute, and I like his big eyes..And as like me, a totally new entry for this hobby, I won't choose the high price dolls, because I will afraid I can't countine this hobby long term...

    4. 1. Wanted a boy doll. Boy dolls have always been rare before BJDs came along, and I just like boys.

      2. Wanted a Large sized doll because at the time (2004), there were more clothes, wigs, shoes, available in that size.

      3. Wanted a more mature sculpt. At that time, mature sculpts were really non-existent, but the larger dolls were more mature than the littler ones, at least.

      4. Love dolls that are a little different and love Fantasy dolls. The only fantasy dolls then available were elf-eared dolls. And white skin was rarer than normal skin.

      5. I did not want to mod or faceup my first doll. I was worried enough about getting my first bjd... I didn't want to worry about having to learn about modding and faceupping, so I wanted a doll that came with a faceup I liked and that I didn't have to mod to like.

      6. I wanted a doll that wasn't extremely hard to find or extremely expensive. ALL bjds were expensive then! And most were hard to find, at any price... Luts was first starting an English site, though, and dolls were beginning to be more available... and I'm talking all dolls--even standards were hard to find at that time.
I ended up getting a limited--but he was available at the time I was looking, so that was perfect.

----My first doll was purchased through Liria, who was the English-speaking agent of CP, Cerberus Project dolls.

He is a CP Delf Elf El, ws.

I still have him and adore him.

    5. My first doll was a lottery. I thought I wasn't going to win, so I said to myself, hey why not enter it just for fun? Then I ended up winning the chance to buy her... I wasn't too fond with her in the beginning, but now she's my dearest. I have 5 dolls in total now :)

    6. Several things made me pick my Doll-Love Alina as my first:

      1) Size - I wanted an MSD to start out with since it's a fairly good size between SD and Yo. I found I love that size for its portability and utter adorability. <3

      2) Gender - I wanted a female since all the male dolls I find look too much like females. I'm incredibly picky, evidently. I like manly men.

      3) The face - Alina is SMILING. I could not for the life of me find a doll that smiled, and Alina took my breath away with that adorable little face of hers.

      4) Affordability - Doll-Love dolls are on the less-expensive end of the spectrum though you'd never know it from the quality. She has mobility thigh joints, all seams sanded and she stands like a brick house. Incredibly poseable. I just love her.

      5) Love - I had to absolutely adore the doll before I bought her, so I stewed on her and a couple of others for weeks until Alina was the only one left standing. She's still the cutest one I own and I love her to death. Easy to find clothing for, poses like a dream and that cute, smiling face makes her worth it millions of times over.

    7. ~giggle~ I basically decided to order Ichigo (ie a doll to cosplay the character from Bleach). Everything fell into place after that decision LOL

    8. My first doll was a DOD DOC Hoo. DOD was one of the first doll companies I knew about and it was really choice between Si and Hoo for me. I loved how sweet and cute Si looked in the promo pictures in his kitty ears and all and loved the shape of Hoo's eyes as they remind me so much of an anime character I like. But I was really put off by the very long waiting time DOD had back then...

Then someone put a Hoo up for adoption and he was within my budget so I quickly snatched him!

    9. my love at first sight is D.O.I. Luke
and now i got D.O.I. Luke "toshi" already.
i love him because of his eye and six pack XD

    10. Fall in love at the first sight,I even don't bjd well~

    11. Well.. I wanted a BJD, MSD. But for a long time I had no ideas. I liked them all, especially IH girls, but none of them were perfect for me. Later I saw marie by CastleAnne and fell in love in a moment.

    12. When choosing my first doll (a Luts Kid Delf Ani boy) I considered the following:

I wanted an MSD, probably as I wasn't sure if I could handle a larger doll and I wasn't comfortable with anything smaller. I already have characters in mind and none of them were female (though admittedly females would be more fun to dress) so he would have to be a male to avoid 'breaking the character mold'. I love LUTS/Cerberus Project sculpts, apart from the fact that they are relatively affordable, and I settled on a Kid Delf as my character (which was young) wouldn't have suited the 'older' age group that Delf sculpt hinted at. Back then I had trouble deciding whether I wanted an Ani (I fell in love with that obstinate expression of his in the promotional pictures) or a Lime (for his rather calm expression). I considered it for close to a year but still it was a hard decision. Sometime in December, locally I found out someone was putting her brand-new Ani up for sale and that was probably the deciding factor.

      I haven't regretted anything since. :)

    13. Love at first sight, basically. I had been looking at BJDs for a long, long time, but I never even thought about getting one. But when I stumbled a cross a picture of Shinydoll Suzune by chance... ... I really felt the need to have her. I didn't feel that way about any other doll (and haven't since). I started researching and bought her soon after, because that feeling didn't go away. Now I've had her for almost a year, I have other dolls too, but she's still my favourite. I didn't really plan to get an MSD as my first doll, I didn't think about what kind of facial features I wanted, I didn't really look at less expensive dolls or anything. It was her and the decision to bring her home.

    14. i knew about BJDs before i went to japan in 2010. the only brand i really new about was Volks in japan i whet to there shops and the museum but with the intention of bringing one home but they just did not scream "take me home" i also went to the Soom shop and liked there dolls but again not quite right dolli bought a dolly dolly book and in there was my angle and deam doll an unoa Lusis. that was it i was in love and she is now sat next to me as i type.xx

    15. I just purchased my first today, haha. She's a Minifee Ruth girl, and she was the least expensive of the three MSD girls I narrowed it down to (the others being Unoa Lusis and CastleAnne Marie head on a MNF A body)... She honestly is way more money than I wanted to spend on a MSD, but she's gonna have to last me a long time (I am only allowed one by my parents as of now), and I've heard good things about Fairyland. :)

    16. I didn't have a special reason for choosing my first doll. I simply wanted one as fast as I could xD
So I came over a cute little girl, and am still pleased with her :)

    17. I just really fell in love with her sweet little face. :fangirl: I didn't know much about BJDs at that time (and I am still learning bunches) and I also think tastes change over time. After a little while I decided to rehome my first BJD doll and have no regrets.

    18. I had no rhyme or reason other than I saw her (Elfdoll Soah) in person at Fanime 2006 and thought she needed to come home with me. Which she did.

    19. Well, I heard that Obitsu are good for beginners. hey are lighter and I like that if anything breaks or gets too stained over time, I can always buy a replacement part. And I feel some kind of attraction to both Obitsu and Dollfie Dream. :sweat

    20. A friend was selling him off, but wanted to keep him 'In the family' as it were. So she offered to sell him to me at a verrry steep discount. So I got to see him and just fall in love * 3* and now he's mine!
