Your reasons for choosing your first doll?

Jun 21, 2011

    1. I really wanted to use my bjd as a reference to help my drawings, so a key thing I looked for was good posability/ double jointed body. But those are pretty easy to get no matter what company you pick. The very first thing is the face; I wanted a pretty face but not overly out of proportion or too pretty and I wanted her to be versitile. so after months and months, I picked a AOD Lan :) (which I don't see very often.. hmm)

    2. At first I thought I wanted a Lance because I like his eyes. The same goes to Ringdoll Pan and Code no.2. I was torn between the 3 when I did more search. And I ended up getting a Dolkot Eun Byul because I just fell in love with him. No other reason.

    3. Love at first sight. I knew she was mine the moment I saw her. :aheartbea

    4. I just picked one kind of randomly...Most dolls are out of my price range at the moment so I just bought a head at random...I fell in love with him immediately though, so it was a good choice. Now if only I could afford his body xD

    5. Could've sworn I'd posted here before...oh well!

I have very fond memories of ordering my Neykon...
I did it completely wrong though. The only companies I knew of were Souldoll, Luts and Volks, so I didn't have that much choice I guess. I had decided I liked Souldoll the best out of those, so I only looked at their dolls. The doll I REALLY wanted was a Chiron, but I was sad that I couldn't get him in grey skin and also his price frightened me....then I fell in love with the Vito boy Sharics :D I didn't choose him because he matched my character...in fact, I had to sort of force him into the character of Neykon, and I'll admit that I judged him based on the company photos (didn't know about DoA yet), and if I was to choose a doll for Neykon now, it would be a completely different doll and it would be 70cm tall :P

But I love my Sharics-Neykon, and I'll never get rid of him :aheartbea

    6. For me, it was price. My income is rather unforgiving when it comes to things I want. My best friend (who I call my BJD peer pressure lol) collects what I consider to be expensive dolls, in the $500 or more range, even though I know some go for quite a bit more. For me thankfully she was able to point me to the Bobobie line of dolls (I have an Apollo on the way!) and even more thankfully another web site allows layaway, those things combined allowed someone in my position to join the hobby and I am grateful. Now... if I had my choice of any doll I'd be going with a doll zone 1/3 Brant <3 sigh, One day you will be mine good sir. :)

    7. I've been interested in dolls for several years, ever since I saw a panel about them at a local con. I've found many dolls to be attractive to look at, I never saw one that jumped out at me. One day I was looking at the DDE site and saw a ResinSoul Mei and went "you are my kitten. yes you are." (Kit is an Xmen OC I've had for more than 10 years.)Then I wrangled finances and ordered her.

    8. A friend start "seducing" me with a lot of bjd pictures, tho she didn't had to tried hard and here I am ,saving up money and waiting.:sweat

    9. I've decided to buy my Toshiyuki (Dollmore Model doll M - Kyle Reese) because he seemed surprisingly similar to one of my characters. When I compared his promo pics with my drawing I saw that the boys looked very much alike. So I just couldn't resist buying him :)

    10. Hm... I had a really long time for me to decide. But when I saw a bjd for the fist time, it was a pretty visual kei boy and I Promised myself that I'll have one like that one day.
I had a lot of favorite for a long time but when I saw Elfdoll sooah and her "little japanese and cute boy" potencial, I cracked. It was just that what I wanted. In fact, she was verry similar with the idea that I had of one of my characters.

    11. I fell in love with Volks Michelle SD10 Boy six years ago. But at the time, I still can't justify how much resources I have to let go just to get my hands on these dolls. But eventually, yeah, I still am in love with these dolls and started to do my own research. Only on year 2010 did I finally get my first doll. I chose between Dream of Doll A&D and Code No. 2 to resinize one pixel doll that I made in the Sims and really like. Code 2 seems to fit my character perfectly. ^^ I did not rely entirely in company pictures and look around for owner pictures before I made the purchase. I'm very, very happy with the outcome. Lol. Glacian is my spoiled first doll.

    12. To buy a Doll like this wasn´t planned at all. I was collecting Tonner Dolls as I found Iplehouse.net accidently. I heard about these kind of Dolls before, but they seemed untouchable to me. By surfing Iplehouse, I stumbled upon Evan. I really fell in love with him that I decided to give it a try. I saved money for some months and as I was finally able to buy him, it was an overwhelming feeling :). I´ll always love my Lucien (Evan) because he´s my first Doll :).

(Please excuse my bad english ;(.)

    13. I originally wanted a DoC Twing-Key, but I am very into period costumes and happened across a website that sold beautiful custom period costumes for dolls. Unfortunately, the Twing-Key I wanted was too small to fit into the costumes, and so I decided to get a larger doll to fit them. I looked around a couple of websites but didn't like what I saw, so I went back to DoD and saw an E-an and thought that she looked awesome, so I saved up and got her. The things that happened after she arrived were not so awesome, but that's another story.

    14. Ringdoll Sol 72.5 cm- I went many years seeing bjd sculpts I liked but didn't LOVE. He stuck out IMMEDIATELY and I couldn't stop thinking about him. I mainly look at the side profile & eye shape when interested in a doll plus it helps that his Grown body is absolutely gorgeous. Plus the 'he is a perfect fit for a character' thing. Size and cost didn't matter to me. ^_^ Almost a year researching owner photos/box openings before recently paying for him$$$!!. In my case there was really no one else I wanted and no other male doll has truly interested me like this.

May sound strange that I haven't seen another doll I want but the only other ones I would consider buying are Dollshe. As beautiful as they are they don't go with any characters I made. Maybe one day if I'm RICH (lol) I'll buy a Dollshe secondhand but until then I'm waiting on another beautiful sculpt to fall in love with so Sol can have a friend! =) *hopelessly waiting on my first doll for the time being*

    15. I was browsing Junkyspot to see what they had and when I saw the BBB Ariel sculpt I knew it was her. She was gorgeous, had the most amazing ears, and was in a price point I was comfortable with for something I wasn't 100% sure I'd want to stick with. She sold out while I was waffling and I figured it just wasn't meant to be. I kept thinking about her and and looking at her picture, though, and I knew the second she was back in stock I had to get her.

    16. Well at first I wanted to buy a Soulkid Liddell but after I save up money for her I saw Kid Delf Ttori. He looked so much like my character Takanori that I ended up choosing him. Plus he was also cheaper so with the money I had left I bought him some stuff. A win win situation I guess xD

    17. Honestly, I didn't choose very well. My issue is that I tend to be really easily distracted from my goals, so my first two dolls have been impulse buys, which honestly do not work out well for me. They were both beautiful sculpts, I just didn't put as much thought into it as I did for the dolls that I'd originally been planning for. Both cases it was basically "wow, that's a really pretty doll!" And I had the money...so...yeah >.<

At this point, not only have my tastes changed from when I first entered the hobby (It's been two years since I had any interest in the company I used to love most starting out), but I've planned out future dolls a lot more clearly. Choosing dolls now is really based off of how well they fit a pre-existing character rather than some sudden impulsive decision.

    18. Basically the first thing that drew me to him was his face. It was really pretty and I'm a sucker for pretty things. He was also a good price and I felt I could really work with him. He was a basic doll so I felt I had free range to give him whatever style or character I wanted. Fullsets sometimes make me feel boxed in. Like I can't deviate from the fullset style. So all of those factors put together made him my first doll :)

    19. Just fell in love with him and there were no owner pics at all. So I saved up for him. When the ebay seller of the company reduced his price I went all the way and bought him. ^^

    20. My first doll was an impulse buy from Y!J, an Angel Region doll. At the time I thought it was cheap at $250 since my cousin had introduced me to ABJD through Volks. >.< When I received 'him' I discovered he was much to pretty and had too few joints. He was sold some months later. My second doll--whom I still have--was a DOC Bee-A right when their big bust/extra joint bodies were being introduced. I took months to stare at her and many other dolls before deciding she matched the character I was trying to recreate. I picked her partially due to the new body--which was one of the few mini super posible bodies at the time--and mostly because she had a very anime-ish face.
