Your Surprise/Sudden/Unplanned Acquisition Stories...

Oct 21, 2007

1. I have so enjoyed reading everyone's stories on this thread!:) I have a story of my own to share. I was casually perusing eBay many months ago when I was suddenly stopped dead in my tracks by the most beautiful Dollfie Dream I'd ever seen. It was absolutely love at first sight.:love She was painted by Evenstar here on DoA, and has always been known since that time as "the Evenstar DD" (which tells you something about the quality of the face-up when an artist's name becomes incorporated into what the sculpt is called!) I fell madly in love with this doll and even sent out photo links to all my friends (you know, the familiar "Oh my gosh, just look at this awesome doll!" response.) But alas there was no money, so all I could do was stand by silently and watch...sadly for me but happily for the artist...as her price sky-rocketed until she finally sold. Dreams dashed! And let's keep in mind this wasn't just a limited doll...it was an artist one of a kind, with face-up and body blushing that made this doll absolutely unique. Amazingly, whoever bought her sold her again shortly thereafter...then she sold again a couple of months later. I was utterly amazed and confused by this turn of events and can only surmise that it was some sort of a "failure to bond" issue. Finally, her third owner was down-sizing her collection to smaller dolls and selling off some of her larger dolls in the process. I watched as my beloved "dream doll" (no pun intended) languished in the marketplace. There was lots of interest of course, but strangely no definitive buyers that stuck. Finally I just couldn't take it anymore and worked up my courage to ask the seller if she'd consider taking a layaway (money was still very tight at the time and I stood no chance without one.) Surprisingly, she agreed...and suddenly I found myself with the doll I'd fallen so madly in love with all those months ago at an affordable price with terms I could manage!:)

2. My newest doll was completely unplanned. If not for some...ahem...peer pressure...."Come on Juli, you know you wanna get one too"... during the last Volks NYC Dolpa, and the heretofore elusive Sunlight skin tone, I would've given in and ordered my FCS MSD Boy "Yamanaka"! But now that I have him, I'm happy I took the plunge. Part of me still wishes that I'd been like so many here, and planned out my FCS doll to the smallest detail, but there's also something thrilling about being surprised. ;)

Juli DC :)

3. Ah, I have a story to add here! My impulsive/unplanned buy was my Breakaway Li. I saw him in the marketplace and realized I had enough money to make an offer, although that money was supposed to be being saved for a different doll. Well, after some hectic PMing, I was able to buy him. For a long time afterward though I wasn't planning on keeping him, but as he's stayed with me, I love him more and more with each day, and now I'm saving for his body! Luck huh? I'm really glad to have made the decision to buy him. ^__^

4. lol,
wow love this threat.

My story...well it's still going on i guess.
I ended up getting a Lydia for Taylor to make her a sd,
but when i putted her old shushu version for sale...the price just o_o"

I also had my dear little Petsha Newt, for who i never planned a sd version.

About a day after i received Taylors payment and shipped her,
someone send me a link to musedoll.
Look at that skirt..so cuteee!..was the reason.

I sure did remember muse doll, i fell in love with some limited i remembered..
a Ciel,
wouw that was long long long time ago..and when i sa her i decided to never visit the site ever again because...700 i think it was...was to much.
And i was 90% sure i would click buy the next time.

So looking at the skirt..i noticed the submenu...BASIC DOLL SET.
me<-- OMG *click*

What i found there was just Amazing... CIEL WAS A BASIC SET!
o3o! Darn i so missed out of that...
When i started looking at her i noticed she was simply the perfect SD Newt.
So there i was,
i had the money..the character and the dream doll....
It took me 15 minutes to scrape some items i wanted together and click on order.
(lol i did ended up adding a coat for a other dutch doll owner 2 days later..but hey)

And she is probably arriving to me today... <3

5. oh my oh my... and the story that follows after I announced to the whole LJ F-list that I planned for only 2 dolls HAHA.

Even when I first bought my first doll (DOC Bee-a) it was on impulse and quite sudden. Amongst my list of original character, I decided that hey~ let you become this girl, Ashlay. And that's how she came about. The other plan is for her cousin, Schey (which is actually the main character for the storyline, instead of her xD; ) after a few months I decided his model (a Narin charisma) and went on griping at how I should be able to save up on my own to get him.

Then I moved back to my hometown of Jakarta, and met my parents. And my Mom was like, so this is your new hobby? Well, make it into a business. And she sponsored my CP Moon Special set as a sample of male SD doll. I was already eye-ing that doll for quite sometime already by that time, but I really didn't expect to get him that fast, or even getting him at all o_o That's already one doll and an extra head.

Then came the talk about how my parents want to see the quality of Volks dolls. I was debating with myself for a few days whether to just go ahead and get the doll I was lusting for or not, a School A. And my morale crumbled...he won me over and the next day I purchased him from somebody here ^^; In the process of looking for a school A, I noticed an F-17 head for sale. Aww drats... and without much thinking I PM-ed the seller D8 That's one more doll and one more extra head ^^;

Before I moved back to Jakarta, I was working parttime for a month. And when I got my pay, K-doll just released Karon heads. Doomed xD; I joined the group order... That's one more floating head added...

And then came my Japan trip in July. I basically toured the country for doll shops.

First we went to the DOD store. They had quite a number of dolls in stock at that time...and I couldn't resist not buying something X_x especially when there's no shipping fee included. I got myself a Tender Yen ^^;

Then it was the Volks sato trip. I was looking for a Volks MSD Schulze, but I was disappointed that none was in stock because it's only for the classes TuT I was looking around...there's a sweet dream Syo, a spring stroll Liz....and an SD Mark @A@ I knew at that time that they just released Mark and Elena, but never did I expect that I managed to find one because most of them were already sold out. Counting my money, I settled for the Mark ^^; I came back home carrying two new dolls.

The really unexpected buys are the ones from events. From Leeke Blindhead event, I got a Min (the temptation of random items xD; and the head was cheap! ) And during the nanuri event this year, my friends made a big group order o_o I couldn't resist (again *swt* ) and bought the head from her.

Finally, came to this other Karon head that I'm waiting for ^^; The tender Yen that I bought from japan couldn't become the character I intended at first (my first karon's brother) So I changed his character *sigh* It was quite a sudden decision, because all this time, I never planned to buy a doll for his character. However, after the tender yen incident, I felt quite sad that his character's gone. In the end, I settled for another karon head and he's all paid for now LOL

My Yo-SD Ayumu is another one because of temptation and uber cuteness LOL I was like, "okay, I want him because he's cute. Wait, he can be Shigure (Mark) and Raiu (D.Moon)'s little brother because their family is huge anyway " I was pretty hasty in getting him because I'm afraid that his price will soar as time goes by.

6. *raise hand* Another Xi-Aleister victim here ...
Flashback : "Mom ! I must borrow you 100$ immediately !!! :o "
" Can I get home first ?
"

Emery was another unplanned doll too. I was searching for a Soom body for Janvier (my DIM Angelo head) and I stumbled upon that gorgeous Soom Kanoa ... and I kept going back to see his picture while telling myself that I only needed a body. The next day I gave up and bought him. :sweat
Now I have two head fighting for the same body ... and that Aleister on the way.
Oh boy !

7. First was Lucien. I totally wasn't expecting it, but I came across the Abio Angel table at Anime North this year, and saw the dolls displayed. I stared at them for a bit, and then wandered off, and kept coming back.... finally, I put a deposit down so I could pick him up on Sunday. ^^;

Second was the Isao head I'm paying for. I'd posted in the "dolls you wan't but probably won't own" type thread, and I said I'd always wanted Isao, but would probably never get him since hardly anyone would split (all I wanted was the head) and I couldn't afford the full doll. A couple days later, I got a PM from one of the users here saying she had a damaged (slightly, not enough for me to care. xD) Isao head that she was willing to part with (for less than I ever thought. <3)... and I'm currently paying him off. I will never regret this purchase at all. :D

Everyone else was pretty much planned.

8. My Roxydoll Lucy was not a planned purchase. Last month NDL had an amazing 50% on Lucy and I bought one the very day I saw this sale. I probably should have done it, but I couldn't pass up a deal like that on one of the only tiny dolls I've been interested in.

9. My CP Lu Wen Vampire, Seren was a total impulse buy. I saw that Luts was releasing a new doll and as soon as I saw the Vampire head pictures I fell in love with him but never thought I'd be able to own him as I had just forked out the money to bring home my little Kitty DOC Si, Shreddie. Anyway whilst wandering around the marketplace I came across someone who was selling a Vampire Lu Wen head, so I fought tooth and nail to win the auction for him...and I did. I had no idea who he was going to be but the moment I got him home into my hands I knew that he was my Seren. I was feeling a bit depressed after paying so much for a head but the moment I had him in my hands and saw his tiny pointed ears and teeny tiny fangs I knew that it had totally been the right thing to do! ^_^

10. I wanted a Bella doll, but no way am I going to try to die a doll blue.

Yesterday Bobobie announced all their dolls will be available in tan, white, normal, BLUE and pink.

I left an order so fast the keys are scorched.

11. What a sweet story, SailorLimaBean ^^ It makes me smile reading it! ♥

I guess Shion was my most impulse buy. DIM Sleeping Persia was always on my wishlist but I never even considered getting open-eyed Persia. Until one day I saw they were discontinued and a beautiful Persia was up on the marketplace...I thought "Now or never~!" and went for it...
I went and spent all of Tora's dollfund for him instead out of nowhere, but I'm so happy with him ♥

And...I don't know what possesed my friend when he suddenly ordered me a Baha out of the blue! XD But it was a lovely surprise all the same and I'm sure I'll treasure Nyaako very much.

12. Nice. Nice.

13. While my order for my Lati twins (Cookie and Momo) to arrive from Lati, I had a friend that was selling her Latii Lumi. Totally unplanned, but at the time I thought it'll be cute to have 3 Latis. Didn't work out for me in the end, and she's since been rehomed.

My TF Jerome was also an unplanned purchase - I had a DZ Xi before, and wasn't planning on getting another mini, but I saw that Minoru World had released a Beauty White Jerome and he was still available after lottery, so I had to get him because he is my fav TF mold, and I just neeeeeded him in BW. The DZ Xi had to go to pay for part of the cost (unplanned, much?), and now I couldn't be happier.

My bigger boys are all unplanned to a degree; Temple (my MSdoll no.3) came up for sale on the official site, and I was blown away by the beauty of the sculpt and had to get him when he was available for sale. Then came my second boy, Niwa. I was after the Kdoll Kayan head for a fair while, and couldn't find it for the life of me as he was d/c in 2005, but saw it on DoA recently, and just had to jump at the chance even though I had to do it on layaway. And my 3rd head is on its way home (a Volks Tony) - totally surprised, as I'd put a bid in not thinking I'll get it, but I did. So now I have to find him a body. XD

14. i love the story's
<3
i want to hear more <3

15. Well, as I've mentioned, I only have an obitsu 60cm, but it was kind of sudden. I had heard about small volks dolls and then one night I didn't sleep and found out about super dollfie-sized dolls. I was *really* manic and decided to sell just about everything I own on ebay so I could buy one. A few days later, I had the obitsu.

Then I came to my senses and realized I had sold most of my treasured belongings to buy a super-expensive *doll.*

...It was *SO* worth it!

16. Oh, goodness... my very first doll, Jay, was what you could call "unplanned". I had orriginally saved up for nearly a year in order to get what I *thought* was going to be a FCS F16 order through a shopping service. I had the funds and everything ready when I made the 'mistake' (if you want to call fate's intervention that... ;) ) of deciding to peruse the marketplace on DoA. I had always known that one of my "wishlist" dolls was a male Sch. C doll and I managed to find one for sale. Well... I probably would have gone with my original plan of getting the F16 if it hadn't been for the fact that I looked... at... his... face...
I swear, I was gone and PMing the seller in 15 seconds flat.
I am SO glad I did, however. He's gorgeous and I'm so increadibly happy that I own him. I mean... the F16 can wait, for Pete's sake. This little guy was just ready to come home with me.
Wow. That was really sappy... *rolls her eyes at herself*
<3

17. I had just bought my first doll (souldoll Paris) when Volks had a teaparty in Los Angeles. I thought that'd be a great way to educate myself in dolls and I attended. I noticed that there were lotteries and... found a doll I liked. I don't think it hit me completely through the brain I had to pay for it afterwards LOL Well... I won a one-off, my credit card took the hit, and I had two dolls when I only expected one x.x But Tin Geet has been the most "vocal" in terms of personality so far :X

18. I was never sure if I wanted a large boy doll. Sure they are handsome... but would I have as much fun dressing and posing them as I did girl dolls? My 'unsureness' was laid to rest at a visit to Doll Heart. I went in with every intend to buy whatever shoes and outfits I wanted, but in the back of the store inside a display case I found the perfect guy for Victoria, a Volks DollsParty 13 Heath. I asked if he was for sale, (wasn't sure since he was kinda hidden), and they said yes. Still.....I had only been in Hong Kong for a couple of days and had plenty more shopping to do both there and on the mainland, I just didn't feel like I should spend the money quite yet. I left with lots of fun stuff but no Heath. A week later my husband called and asked if they still had him, they said yes and held onto him for me. I went back and bought him, and clothes and shoes for him too of course. :)

19. Of my trio, my only planned one was the first one, Lillith. The other two are adoptions from the marketplace here on DOA and I will never look back. I adore Mikail and Jessie as much as I love Lillith.

I saw Jessie's mold first and kinda liked her (she's a Mythdoll Little Leroi) so I PMed the owner. Then I saw Mikail (a DOC Zen) and PMed his owner. Then I kinda went OHCRAP because that was way more money than I was expecting to spend in a single month! Then came the "ah, well, it's only money" moment and the rest his history. Mikail arrived last week and Jessie arrived today.

20. I had contemplated every doll I've bought for at least several weeks, if not months, then they announced the Puki Puki dolls. I knew I would get a tiny eventually for Gaia's little brother, but I only thought about it for a day or so seriously before ordering (and getting the last Piki fullset, I almost waited too long.)

If all works out, I'll be getting two dolls within a week or so of each other. O_o (Mentioned in signature)

:D
