1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your Surprise/Sudden/Unplanned Acquisition Stories...

Oct 21, 2007

    1. I did the "in threes" thing again. O.o

      Doll Chateau Andre
Traded for a doll in mind head
      And bought a resinsoul.

At least the last two were second hand. But this was a while ago. I got hurt on the 26th, and have been out if work since. XT

It's not good that I'm hurt...but good that I don't have money to spend lol

    2. I had just received my first doll and was trying to time my next order. I found a secondhand doll - an unplanned-for boy. I couldn't resist!

    3. Parker and Luc are my unplanned ones. Parker was a birthday gift from my sister, and at the time he was a YoSD. I have since upgraded him to SD, but the character stayed the same. I had no plans for a child character, but she got him as a surprise, and I worked him into my plotlines and fell in love. Luc was a free head with my sister's order, and she gave him to me. I wan't sure of what to do with him, but I gave him a character and the bond grew very strong. It's funny, but it seems like she's better at picking out dolls for me than I am sometimes!

    4. Well IDK if this counts, but recently, I've gone to two great cons: Resin Rose and PNW BJD Expo... and both times I came home with a doll I didn't mean to buy :sweat
At Resin Rose there was a swap meet type of thing (like, if you weren't an official vendor but wanted to do some selling or trading) and I bought a swap space, intending to sell some stuff. But I thought I might as well go around to the other tables and see what other people were swapping/selling. Annnnd I came across the beautiful Volks SD Midi FCS-30 :love
here he is with wig, eyes etc that I gave him later ~

So this last weekend I was at PNW Expo and ... Peak's Woods was there. Needless to say:

    5. My dad surprised me with taking me to the Melbourne BJD Emporium on the weekend before I had to work that night and the reason I wanted to go was just to see some BJD in real life and meet some people in the community before my doll arrives off Layaway.
Whilst there I ended up falling in love and buying this little girl
      [IMG]
The shocking thing not being that I brought a BJD that day, lord knows I was probably going to anyway, but because I have never been big on the anthros. I prefer human dolls, but this little Jax just took my heart and I had to have her.
I've since cleaned up her face up and am now saving up to send her to get redone or looking in to doing her face up myself.

    6. I saw my Narsha once at a meet, not too long after her owner put her up for sale. I had never considered a doll of her size nor had I researched the sculpt as I usually do, but I liked her and now she's mine. XD

Something similar happened when a friend of mine got a Soom Alk. I was looking at how nicely she painted his wings. I even looked at the Alk & Yrie page on the Soom site a couple times, but I just didn't wanted a tiny...
Then one day I was randomly looking through the marketplace and saw one Yrie, complete with fantasy parts and faceup and she was in Portugal! How rare is it to find a limited doll, as new and complete, at a reasonable price and also close enough to save on shipping? I got her, of course XD

My brownie haha was also an impulse buy, she's really small and I don't really know what to do with her (I should get her a nice house probably, maybe one day) but when I saw she was only 45 euro fullset I thought there was no harm in trying XD
I should have got more, they were all so cute!

    7. While I was waiting for my first doll to come from Iplehouse (a very much planned-for and agonized-over purchase) I spotted another IH sculpt that I also adored on eBay, and leaped at the chance. (Luckily she was/is legit - I didn't learn about recasts until later!) So I started out my collection with an impulse buy.

Eight months ago, a seller who I follow on Tumblr put her Junga Toy skull up for sale, and I couldn't make an offer fast enough - I just knew that had to be mine!

Three weeks ago, a Magical Angel sculpt came up for sale, and I only paused long enough to assure myself that the doll and the seller were both legit before firing off an ask.

So there's almost half my collection (six complete dolls and a floating head) made up of impulse buys.
