Your thoughts on fur wigs?

Oct 1, 2013

    1. Two of my dolls wear fur wigs. One of them wears Monstro Designs. In the beginning I had bought some of her wigs and slapped them on two other dolls. It looked horrible. It looked cheap. Same seller, different results. It is not just quality, a fur wig should also suit your doll and be styled well. Other dolls of mine wear fiber and one wears mohair. Again, it also depends on the doll itself. It is like people and haircuts. Not everyone can rock the same thing.

    2. I love and hate fur wigs. When I look at pictures of fur wigs I go, "Oh, wow! That looks so good!" but I've never liked them on my dolls. I don't really style my wigs or anything, I think it's me and not the wigs that are the problem >_>

    3. I love fur wigs - two out of three of my dolls have them, but I think they are very hard to get right. I mostly like the fur because of the "fluffy" appearance, though some I have seen just make the dolls look like they have been electrocuted! Not a good look in my opinion

    4. When I started the doll hobby, I didn't like fur wigs. I saw some photos with fur wigs that looked great, but I told myself 'no fur wigs.' I'm not sure exactly why, maybe because most look like they are out of control or I just figured I couldn't get the look I wanted with fur wigs. I was also a cosplayer first, so I adored fiber wigs. I still like fiber wigs for my dolls, except for the fly-aways that I have to tame. But as I continued down the path into the dollie world, I figured I would go ahead and give fur wigs a try. They are cheaper and so much easier to find - especially for my weird sized bjd heads. I have found that they aren't so bad as I thought. True, they still can look out of control, but I'm learning how to style them a bit more to my taste (and found that they also look pretty good groomed down).

    5. I don't know how to post pics here, but my Bianca came with a fur wig and I can't do a thing with it.

    6. I LOVE fur wigs. I started making some for my first SD just awhile ago. figuring out ways to sew it so she had more then just a bob hair cut and im loving it. I got my first actual wig for her and when i put it on i hated it cause it wasn't like her fur wig lol. I love synthetic too but theres just something so fun and funky and cartoonish like about the fur that just cant be compaired

    7. Im not to big on fur wigs, I don't know its because most I've seen were unstyled or crazy looking, but I wouldn't really buy them. The only thing close to fur I would say I would buy alpaca fur to make my own wig or maybe a mohair wig if I wanted to spend extra money

    8. I think fur wigs have a lot of potential, but I have a hard time finding good ones! To the point where I've started avoiding them for my own dolls. I've seen some awesome fur wigs, but the ones I get tend to fit poorly, not have the best texture, length, hard to style, etc. *sigh* I try making them too, but fake fur comes in so many varieties, I often end up with not the best texture for wig making.

I think good fur wigs are great for shorter spikey, layered hair styles. It's hard/impossible to get that look from a fibre wig. One of my boys pretty much can only wear his fur wig because none of the smoother fibre wigs suit him.

    9. I love them and hate them. I love them when they are styled well. I usually use them as a temp wig when I don't have enough money for the one I really want.

    10. I like how some of the fun ones look on others' dolls in pictures, but I haven't seen a fur wig on a doll in person that looked good to me. They varied between hairy hat and tangled web. I'm waiting on one for my new boy, so we'll see if that changes my perspective!

    11. I'm not a big fan of the fur wigs. Somehow the ones I've seen to date just don't call out to me. I'll have to go look for some wigs soon as my baby's are arriving bald so maybe my opinion will change if they end up with the perfect wig and it's a fur. :}

    12. I like both fiber and fur wigs and have a mixture of them on my dolls. Like others have pointed out you can get good and bad in both types. I reaaly like the fur ones as they are a lot easier to style. For me it really just depends on what suits they character of each doll:)

    13. I think fur wigs look pretty nice! I like how they pull off the kinda cool person spike-y look! I have a black one for one of my dolls but unfortunately its not really my style c: I prefer synthetic wigs that have style set to it already.

    14. I never really liked fur wigs at first, but now I've gradually grown to love them. I think they're really cute and I really love their fluffy appearance. Plus, my first two fiber wigs on my doll were a complete pain to style and keep neat. So it's really a win, win situation, for me at least. :)

    15. I like fur and fiber wigs equally, to me it just depends on the doll's personality which type will suit them best.

    16. I like fur wigs. Those are often nice looking and so easy to try different hairdo.
Sure furwigs can look horrible too, if fur is bad quality. Some dolls look better with fur wigs and some with fiber, so it kinda depends on doll too.
So my thought about them are just fine. I like fur wigs, mostly.

    17. i have always been of the opinion that fur wigs look great on boy bjds. In fact, my guys only wear fur wigs, as they tend to look very "doll like" when wearing other types of wigs. I have a bag of fur wigs that some of my girls wear, but I agree, they vary in quality.

    18. I don't really have any strong opinions either way on fur wigs, personally. I have one of my dolls in a fur wig, and I think it suits her well! Most of them are in fiber, because the styles suit them better than fur styles do (though one, at least, could go either way). It's really what works with the vision of the character I have in my head, moreso than anything about the fiber itself.

    19. Looks like I'm in the minority here, but it's a nay from me. I have never seen a fur wig I liked. I find them really tacky. On the odd occasion I find a well styled one, I still think blah. Maybe it's because I find them all styled the same, I've never had one make me go wow. It just doesn't look like hair to me. Even when I was gifted with a high quality one in a swap it didn't change my mind. A breeze goes by and it's a hot ass mess, too hard to maintain a permanent hair style. That would just frustrate me to no end, I couldn't deal.

    20. I looooove fur wigs! They are the easiest wigs to style and as far as I'm concerned as long as the fur is of good quality they can look just as nice as fiber wigs. Of course one should make sure that the style fits their doll as well, as not all dolls look nice in them. Most of my dolls wear fiber but it just doesn't work for some. For example I'd never be able to put Faizel in a fiber wig because his hair are so wild and impossible to tame, while Caspian would freak out if even a single hair was out of place so he got a nice smooth fiber wig.
