Your thoughts on fur wigs?

Oct 1, 2013

    1. I keep wondering if I am the only person out there who makes bunny fur wigs? I get bunny furs from Hobby Lobby for about $12 and get about 3 wigs for my SD boys out of them. The fur is only about 2cm long, so they are perfect for short boy styles. They are wonderfully soft, easy to make, and cute as .... well... a bunny!

    2. While I have a few faux fur wigs I seldom use them. They can be fun though when going for a certain look. My favorite wigs are the Tibetan fur wigs, the ones on a skin base with the natural fur. They tend to have that soft, romantic look that I often prefer. Even my fiber wigs don't get used as much.

But I've seen some faux fur wigs that look spectacular & they are definitely easy to style.

    3. I absolutely adore fur wigs. I've never really seen a saran type wig I like really. They all look too fashion doll to me *puts bjd nose in air* While fibre wigs work wonderfully on some characters I like all my girls to be super cute and girly so a messy fur/mohair/alpaca wig is a must :3 I also agree that some fur wigs do look a little too cheap for me but that could be said for any type of wig, right?

    4. I currently have several dolls that wear faux fur wigs and 3 that wear real fur wigs as well as ones that wear mohair and fiber. It's my opinion that the character the doll is will dictate what they wear as hair. Some things work for one but completely fail for another.

One of my dolls started with a faux fur but ended up with mohair as he needed a longer wig with a slightly different wild look to it. The mohair suits him great. I have twins that I originally got mohair wigs for and I ended up making them wigs out of white and sliver fox, which suites them much better. Another doll went through... 4 wigs of various materials until I made him a wig out of dyed red fox and it suits him to a T. Another doll, I tried in several fiber wigs and they all failed. I put him in a faux fur wig and it was perfect for him.

    5. love them! in both sense, they are easy to style, hairs dont fall out and they feel GREAT

    6. I think it varies on the doll, the character and most important the quality and how the wig is styled. I had a tiny come in with a fur wig and wanted to chuck the tribble on its head out of the window. But then picked up a longer fur wig off of ebay for one of my other tinies and have absolutely loved it.

    7. I don't really like fur. I also don't like mohair which i find very hard to style.

    8. I find fur too difficult to work with.

    9. I'm not a fan of the fur wigs, but this is again an instance of the type of character one is going for. If it fits the personality of the character, then I get it.

    10. Like many others have said, I think it wholly depends on the character/personality behind the doll. My first dolls personality didn't really shine until I had gotten her a fur wig. It was incredibly cute on her!

    11. I wouldn't worry too much about if other people think fur looks cheap, this is your hobby to do with as you please. :) Someone is always going to be running their mouth off about 'cheap' things, some people only like to buy expensive thing so they can say they buy expensive things.
I personally love fur because it's easier to cut and style. All my boys have fur wigs. I only have two girls that occasionally wear the fur type. I have a bunch from S&M which are so soft and amazing quality, very thick and worth every penny I paid for them.

    12. I personally don't like fur wigs on my dolls, but that's mostly just because I find the style clashes with my fibre wigs, and I'm very OCD about things 'matching' or 'fitting together'. I certainly don't think fur wigs are inherently 'cheap', and I wouldn't judge anyone for putting fur wigs on their dolls.

    13. Faux fur wigs are fine but very limited. You can only have a more punk or jpop look and medium hair. (Which looks really good if that's what you're going for) If you want long hair, curly hair, various cuts and styles, you're out of luck. (I know people have sewed tails onto faux fur wigs but it just looks like a fox tail growing out of the head.) I prefer faux fur for medium-short spiky styles and fiber for everything else.

    14. My doll guy suits her shaggy, spiky style , i made him 2 fur wig .

    15. I really like fur wigs, with the right outfit, I currently dont have any for my doll yet tho D:

    16. I personally like both and have tons of fiber and fur wigs for all of my dolls. Really, it depends on the look I am going for when picking a wig. :)

    17. My boy has a fur wig and it works really well for his character, but with how he wears it you cant tell its fur by looking because it doesnt stick out everywhere... Where as my little obitsu has a fur wig that flies everywhere if im not careful... can get annoying

    18. I feel that fur wigs are more forgiving when you style them. Fiber wigs sometimes don't look so great and can look thin. I love the look of the great quality wigs of course, in both fur and fiber.

    19. I love fur wigs and they are so soft and cool!

    20. Fur wigs are definitely easier to style. If you do it right. I see a lot of fur wigs that are done really nicely, and some that don't look so great, and you can tell that not a lot of care went into styling it. I think it doesn't matter how cheap or expensive a wig is, as long as you put real care into making sure it looks nice. My first bjd had a fur wig, and he simply couldn't pull off anything else. My 2nd boy has synthetic, and it's a lot harder to style.however, my girl has. A really nice synthetic wig that's long and curly and I can style it a lot of different ways. So I like both, but I mostly prefer fur for boys and synthetic for girls.
