1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Your thoughts on fur wigs?

Oct 1, 2013

    1. Tibetan mohair works *perfectly* for Molly because her character is an Irish forest dweller, so a crazy red mop of curls is sort of required haha. It definitely depends on the character. Straight fur wigs work great for scene girls (and as a former scene girl, I can attest that an overuse of hairspray and scalding hot styling instruments gave my hair much the same texture, so points for realism). But hey, who am I to limit a wig type to a certain character? It could probably look great on any doll, given it is styled nicely!

    2. I'm definitely very hands on with my dolls and I have to say I prefer fur wigs on my smaller dolls. Fiber is nice but it tends to fall stiffly on the small dolls and hangs there all limp. Fur has more volume and body for the tinies. Plus fur wigs are easily replaced which is nice.

    3. I like the feel...but I just can't get them to behave in any way other than turning my doll into a lioness.

    4. Has anyone tried experiments with a thinning shear, and some bed head, or the likes?
      I haven't, just wondering though

    5. At first I didn't like at all, I thought it was ugly. I've bought one for my doll chateau kid to see, and now I love it.
Now I got 2 and 2 others in order. I think it also goes well girl that boy.

    6. You know I think I'm warming up a little to them now that I have a couple of decent ones. The thing with fur wigs is that there are some really bad ones out there, and then there are the good ones. The good ones are silky, wispy, and usually longer. They puff or lay flat upon demand. The shorter ones they're more like toy bear fur. They tangle easily, get rough like an old sweater, and they're impossible to style unless you are really good at it. I hate the latter but I have one now that is the former and I think it looks terrific on the doll and is very easily managed. I still prefer acrylic but a good fur wig on a guy doll works pretty well for me.

    7. Two words:

      Never.Again.

    8. I love fur, but I also agreee with people who say it depends on the fur. I also got a Monstro(?) from Etsy, I think it was, and it's beautiful. So nice-looking and manageable... But my Ringdoll Frankenstein came with a fur wig and it is the most atrocious piece of crap I've ever seen come from a doll manufacturer. The only reason I didn't throw it away is because I felt guilty letting go of a piece of his fullset. lol But really, it's ridiculous. Just plain garbage.

    9. I'm a fan of fibre wigs myself (I think it comes from my strong preference of using kanekalon from my cosplaying days), but I've seen some really beautiful fur wigs too. I think it depends on the way it's styled. To me, some dolls look like Troll dolls with fur wigs on, and that's just not something that I like aesthetically.

I think it also depends on the sculpt of the doll itself. I find the fur wigs look nicer on dolls with a more youthful and sometimes more feminine face. If they're more masculine or have a more chiselled face, then a fur wig can throw it off the look for me, unless if it was a really long one.

    10. I'm not a fan of the fur, honestly. I do agree that some people can do miracles with it, but personally it's just not for me.

    11. I think that there are good quality fur wigs out there, but a lot of them I see are cheap and poorly styled. I am currently obsessed with mohair wigs though and couldn't imagine my future character in a fiber wig. I think it really depends on the quality, the way it is styled, and the character.

    12. Depends on the wig and how it looks and would fit type thing

    13. I say "yay" for fur wigs! :) Most of the fur wigs that are out there look nice, especially on male dolls or punk/rocker types. That's not to say that there aren't fur wig out there that don't look so great, but there's fiber wigs like that, too!

    14. I could never get into the fur wigs because they do not provide the looks I'm after. They look soft and I have seen some really pretty ones but they are not for me.

    15. Out of 3 dolls only 1 has fiber.
I just got my first mohair (Luts) wig and it is a fantastic lion mane...it is perfect for his look!

    16. I prefer long fur wig because sometimes it makes my doll look fantastic. I think fur wig usually well matched with the fantasy dolls. It will be slightly different depends on the style, but I think the feeling which usually fur wigs give to me (fluffy, stray) help me to imagine the certain fantasy pictures.
Also apart from the above comment, I really like to put curly mohair wig on the baby dolls. it looks really adorable.

    17. I personally prefer fur wigs, but it has to be a good quality fur. I recently purchased some suuuupppeeer silky, wavy, long mohair on etsy and it feels amazing. I can't wait to make a wig with it. :D

I just think it looks a bit more realistic than fiber wigs do, for the most part. I like the full body of fur wigs as well. But like I said - it ALL comes down to the quality of the fur. I've seen more than my fair share of hideous fur wigs. XD

    18. So far, I haven't seen many BJDs sporting a fur wig and still looking great wearing one. They're almost always puffy, messy or frizzy. That's just my opinion, since I really do prefer straight silky smooth hair over frizzy...

Right now, I don't see myself ever purchasing a fur wig, even though they're a lot cheaper :'D But hey, maybe some day in the future!

    19. I think the quality is what makes the wig work or not. I've gotten a few nice fur wigs, but they won't work on the dolls I currently have. I'm really sad that Monstro went out of business, because those were some very beautiful wigs! And I loved that you could customize them.

    20. Chaeri has so many, many wigs...she has more wigs than some dolls have outfits. Yet the wig she wears most often is the pale pink fur wig I made for her. It frames her face so perfectly and is so soft and touchable. She has some lovely fibre wigs, but they don't suit her style as well.
