Zombie Tinies - Bad Taste?

Mar 9, 2010

    1. ZOmbie baby? I thing it´s a brilliant idea :D And seriously, there are so much more offensive dolls out there, that I cannot see anything wrong with a zombie doll. So many BJD dolls have the face of a child and a body of a woman, now is that in bad taste?!?! I think so, but generally people buying these dolls don't think so (not aiming to offend anyone, just trying to point out that offensiveness means such different things to different people). So in that sense, I think a zombiedoll is not bad idea at all.

    2. I'm not at all offended. While it may not be to my particular taste, artistic expression takes all kinds of different forms and not everyone is going to like everything that someone chooses to do with their doll.

    3. I think it all depends on the artist to make a doll. I saw a very stylish zombie dolls. Although the bad taste too much.

    4. I think it's rather subjective for everyone's taste is different, for myself, I thing Zombie Tinies can be cute as well and I came across some cute looking Zombie Tinies too n___6

    5. I do not see a problem in it. It just so happened that you portrayed the event in doll form. I use people I meet and things that happen in life as inspirations for my doll designs. Death is part of life, and unfortunately murder.

    6. Personally I am not a fan of zombie dolls. Just not my cup of tea.

I am however very fond of a lot of horror and Macabre type things and I know it can be a little discouraging to have friends telling you that it's in bad taste or horrific of you to like that. I have had friends give me that look because I was excited my mom gave me a copy of the Gashlycrumb Tinies (an Abecedarian book about children who died) I find the art to adorably morbid and they aren't real children so I don't see the big deal. My friend however thinks it's horrible that anyone could even look at it.... even though only one of the pictures actually shows a child dead and most of them are before the fact....

The point is if it interests you then you have nothing to feel bad about. It's not in bad taste unless you are trying to be hurtful in my opinion. So if you aren't trying to do anything but follow your muse for this doll then no one should have the right to try and make you feel bad about it.

    7. I must say, I totally agree with ArouraAnn here, It's probably a part of you that is subconsciously trying to cope with her death. Zombie BJD's are fine, its your back round that seems to put a spin on the scenario.

    8. Ok, I am one of those people who lets others get away with A LOT when it comes to art (and dolls fall into that for me, esp. when modding is involved), so I think it's perfectly fine. My logic is that there have been tons of murdered people, plenty of whom were probably young and blond. While that isn't a good thing of course, my point is that no matter what kind of zombie you make, don't you think you could find a real murdered person who resembles it somewhat? There's no point in letting accidental resemblance to anyone affect your decision to make the doll that you want (unless maybe it's someone super distinct, like Hitler; I don't think anyone could pass that off as an accident, but you get my point). ^_^

    9. I don't think zombie dolls are in bad taste at all. In fact I would LOVE to see one :D

    10. I think it would be adorable and awesome. Please show pictures. Having read your explanations, I agree with those who have said that it sounds as if you were doing your own thing, and were then surprised and worried when you friend gave her opinion. It doesn't sound to me as if you are planning anything rude or hurtful, but if you still feel poorly about it, consider changing her haircolor (the most noticeable aspect of similarity), and be confident that you are enjoying your own artistic style. I love zombies. I'm convinced most of them walk around with their arms out because they are just looking for hugs. ;)

    11. Personally, I think the idea sounds awesome. Then again, I am a horror fan. I collect creepy dolls and such, children appearing as zombies. I don't think it's bad taste, but I am biased, I suppose...
If you like it, you like it. It is yours! It sounds like a cool idea, and skimming through the replies I am not the only one who shares this opinion. I also think that it would be very unique, it is your own design after all. Go for it! <3

    12. Just because it's a tiny, doesn't mean the character is going to be a child, unless that's what you're going for.
Either way I see no problem with your idea. I think it's kinda cute! Just because zombies are undead, rotting creatures, doesn't mean they can't just want to look pretty~ :) And especially if the character is a child! Children love to dress up and I can see a zombie child not loosing that want to dress up. :)

    13. Zombies rock. If you're doing the idea because that is how you pictured it and not as a rip on the dead little girl Jon Benet, then I don't think you're doing anything wrong, even if there is a similarity. There are TONS of pageant kids and most of them look like little clones anyway, so I don't see the problem.

    14. I don't think it's disturbing to use tinies for that. I like horror. But I can understand why people find it weird or don't like it at all. Tinies are mostly chubby and child-like with cute faces. I can see why people don't want them to be zombies.

    15. im gonna go with the "its your doll" thing i love zombies and zombie kids are cute and after your further explanation i think it should be just fine

    16. I think it's okay. Zombies are kind of 'in' right now, and some people are just fascinated with death and the macabre. It doesn't make you weird or a bad person.

Cute, tiny, blond-haired, and blue-eyed is kind of just the stereotypical 'little girl' image we picture. She's Alice in Wonderland, she's Shirley temple. I don't think you're projecting a certain real-life trauma victim onto your doll.

    17. Now that you said the whole Ramsey story, yes, bad taste. That was the only factor that would definitely make it look bad. Zombie mods are cool and all, but since you knew them personally, even though it was not your intention, I think it would still be in bad taste.

    18. I don't think it's bad taste, maybe I've bad taste then. I love the little girl in Interview with the Vampire, she's (un)dead too, and cute.

It would be bad taste if you called her JonBenet or something, but that girl looks just like any doll-like pretty child.

    19. Well, I don't really think having a zombie doll is bad, but with that backstory, it makes it sound bad. However, if you go with making her a zombie and have her dress up as a pagent girl.... have you thought about taking the tiara idea out? Maybe after that... it won't sound like... you were trying to disrespect poor little JonBenet. But as Demmini said, it IS your doll. So, do whatever you wish with her. ^^

    20. Well your sketch bared resemblances, but will the actual doll? With all of the different molds out there, I don't think you have that problem.

And the only way a zombie doll would be tasteless would be after a zombie apocalypse, and we haven't had one of those yet... so I think you're safe on that one, too.
