Zuzu Delf Clothing Database!

Jul 26, 2011

    1. @rainbow dash & @Tsukasa: I too saw the Rement clothes at the store and they looked a tad on the small side. (My girls don't have detachable paws so getting sleeved outfits on is always a pain.) However, I can fully endorse some of their props and furniture at 1/6-ish!

Re: patterns: alas, my friends, I'm also often asked the same quest. by my costuming buddies and the truth is, I'm one of those weirdos who drape everything w/o a pattern. Brain no wired in flat-pattern techniques. Heh heh. They are really all variations of a basic tube w/one seam in the back (overlapped for about 3" from the top to accommodate closures). Maybe I'll get off my lazy butt and write a drape-your-zuzu-easy-way post in the future. :)
Thank you all (on behalf of the bunnies) for the compliments. They're now screaming for bustle dresses. *headdesk*
      Mme. duBunny

    2. If you make bustle dresses I will die. I want to make one too. Tutorial!!!!! :D Mel is demanding (which is her way of begging without losing her attitude) one.

    3. *giggle*
      Dear Mel,
You might have heard from your bunny friends that there may be bustle dresses in the future. This is true, but the emphasis is on 'future' (as we're still trying to figure out the closures *dokh*). If you start behaving well and be nice to @camarilla, we may be able to work out something with Santa. If you're naughty tho.... ;)
      Your friend,
      duBunny

    4. I recently test-drove a bunch of different ready-to-wear products for my Zuzu Delf Toya with mixed results. Hopefully, these reviews will be useful to other Zuzu lovers, who, like me, may be somewhat confused by their awkward in-between-standard doll size. :)
This first installment is about a wig...

      Product Experiment - 7" Wig
      Brand: Dollspart
      Product: 01016 , c/p Long Curl
      Size: 7"
      Colour: L. Brown
      Composition: 100% Kanekalon

      Pros:
      - the curls are really nicely set
      - 'light' brown isn't so light but I love how it contrasted w/her lighter faceup
      - size issue is fixable by taking in about 3/8" of the headsize elastic
      Cons:
      - wig cap is definitely too loose; wig refuses to stay on (I had to take the photo w/her lying down.)
      - there's clearly a gap at the forehead so too much skull is showing
      - taking in the headsize elastic is not a trivial operation b/c the joint is at the temples, not center back
      - I like Kanekalon ok for my own wigs but its texture cannot be compared w/the oh-so-softness of synthetic mohair

I will definitely stick with 6-7's in the future. It's just too much trouble to bother given how easy 6-7's are to find.
      Mme. duBunny

    5. Product Experiment - Yo-SD 1/6 aka Hujoo Berry Sized Shoes
      Brand: Monique
      Product: 756 Elegant Mary
      Size: 38mm
      Colour: black and pink
      Composition: vinyl(?)

      Pros:
      - So far, this is as close to the official Luts shoes in terms of size as I could find
(I went by the mm measurements listed at Luts.)
      - Affordable - a third of the price of the original.
      - They are really cute!
      - Saving grace: They are okay if the dolls are wearing stockings and with the straps, they do not fall off even tho they are clearly too long and too high. Width okay. (See above: first and third pictures, left foot had nylon, right foot was bare.)

      Cons:
      - About 1cm too long and 3mm too high (See above, second picture w/feet next to black shoes)
      - As @Tsukasa mentioned earlier, 1/6 shoes are actually too large for these guys.
So I suspect even the official shoes are too large to begin with.
      - That said, I've found that not all 1/6 Yo-SD shoes are the same size. *grrrr* These are as little as they come.

I've also measured their feet directly and found them to be approx:
      2cm widest part of foot
      3cm overall length
      1.5cm from heel to ankle
      0.5cm height of instep
So....the next experiment is to go find even smaller shoes that better accommodate these measurements.
      Wish me luck!
      Mme. duBunny

    6. Product Experiment - 14mm and 16mm Glass Eyes
Brand: Glasaugen and off-brand unknown from Ebay
      Product: glass eyes
      Size: 14mm, 16mm
      Colour: various
      Composition: glass

The first picture compares the spectacular realistic Glasaugen eyes with flat-backed off-brand.
Not only do the German ones come in a real nice storage case, they are definitely of higher quality and fully spherical. However, they're only available in humanly-possible colours since they were originally meant for other human dolls.

The second picture shows a selection of purple/red/pink eyes I bought off-brand off Ebay.
These are not stunningly beautiful but do their job nicely. The flat back actually makes them much easier to install/reposition than the sphericals. However, the colour selection is pretty much endless. Definitely the way to go if you want a rainbow of non-humanly-possible colours.

The third picture compares 14mm (left) and 16mm (right) eyes of the same make and colour.
They both fit into the socket just fine. There's more coverage and a larger pupil area for the 16mm.
Not a substantial difference but they do result in slightly different expressions. The 14mm appears to be looking up whereas the 16mm appears to be looking outward. However, the 16mm pretty much covers up most of the socket so I doubt any larger size will work on her face.

No pros/cons this time, I love them all!
      Mme. duBunny
p.s. The next installment will discuss the Rement Girly Style ready-to-wear fashions!

    7. Product Experiment - Rement Girly Style Outfit
      Brand: Rement
Product: Girly Style - Petit Mode Collection (casual two-piece outfit)
      Size: n/a
      Colour: pink t-shirt, purple/white checkered faux-wrap skirt
Composition: cotton knit t-shirt, cotton w/stablized backing skirt

      Package Exterior
This is one of three Rement Petit Mode collection. From the looks of it, this would be the summer casuals collection whilst there's also the winter casuals and some uniforms. Interesting concept. I love how they labelled it "made with cloth" (pink label w/yellow writing on the left side) so it's definitely not going to be some plastic oufit. Ha ha.

      The Product Inside
Exactly as represented on box. Awesome.
I should note here that I got extremely lucky with this one b/c I bought it from a store unopened.
The annoying thing about these gashapon toys is the random-in-box so it's impossible to tell which one I'm getting unless I ordered it from a seller who's opened the box already (thus often charging more for known-content). I don't mind all the other outfits but the bunny t-shirt is what I really-really-really wanted. Win!

      Maria Luisa Modelling the Outfit
The t-shirt is pretty long on her with some weird shoulder/neck action.
And the skirt is really tight on the belly and the thighs.
Frankly, they are a shade too small on her.

      The Back - Too Small!
Whereas the t-shirt is stretchy so getting through the paws wasn't an issue, the skirt is clearly far too tight and narrow. The back has a 3/8" gap where the velcro is and the wrapped-tube style restricts her posability.

      The Back - After Alteration
Well, I wasn't going to let that minor detail stop me!
Luckily, they didn't skimp on the fabric in the skirt and it's a true-wrap where the front is fully overlapped. That gives me plenty of room (about 1") to futz with. I took off the two decorative buttons, moved the lapped-front to as far as feasible without exposing the thighs, then took a dart on either side to take up the excess at the waist. Like all sewing, it sounds a lot more complex than it really is. Took 5 mins. tops and I have a skirt that fits and flares. Taadaaah!

      Final Thoughts:
So......I would revise my original forecast to say Rement outfits (that are often advertised as fitting Blythe dolls) are generally at the right scale. It's probably a proportions issue that made parts of the outfit too small for these girls. I'd say go right ahead if the one(s) you want are stretch knits. Proceed with caution if they're going to be some non-stretchy material as it's hard to tell whether they can be altered to fit just from the stock photos. All in all a really good bang for the buck!

      Mme. duBunny

    8. Thanks for reporting! I did end up ordering that Rement nurse outfit. Luckily I know someone who sews so if it's too small, it should be easy to fix!

Buuuuut I still have a large chunk of time to wait until my doll even gets here, so I won't be able to post my own various findings for some time.

    9. Oh, the nurse outfit would be so cute on Fenny! Hope she gets home soon. :)
I'm tempted by the maid outfit now....ooops.
      Mme. duBunny

    10. So! She's here! The nurse outfit unfortunately doesn't fit for two reasons: 1) Gypsy's rear end is too big since the velcro only opens halfway up the dress and 2) Small hand holes do not work for huge paws. I'll see if my sewing friend can do some adjustments. BUT! I do have a great rec!

      Where you bought it: Ebay
      Company/maker: Cool Cat Collections
How well did it fit? Pretty much perfectly.
Anything else you think we should know: It was made for Blythe dolls, but the velcro opening on the back goes ALL the way down the dress, and the stretchy fabric means her paws easily fit through. I really like this store and will certainly be purchasing more from them. They have all kinds of clothes and they're all very inexpensive!

    11. I have two new dresses coming soon for Piper (zuzu delf truffle) I hope they will fit her and I will post pictures too. Yay!

    12. Hurray for the proliferation of Blythe clothes!
Golly, I absolutely adore her straight red wig!
      Mme. duBunny

    13. I'm excited about Blythe clothes. I really need to get some for Mel. She's been very good lately. I think she'll be happy to be the one spoiled for a change. I used a free Blythe pattern to make her a shirt, and I did have to alter it slightly to make it easier to get over her dang paws. I also made her a leather pleat skirt, and she seems satisfied...for now.

    14. Adding one shop for possibly Zuzu fitting clothes - TTYA (Blythe clothes here.)

Got it from Happy Camille; now trying a similar one but short. A photo to come soon. ;)

    15. Anyone tried blythe pants? I didn't know TTYA did blythe so it totally interest me for my boy.(it is so much harder to shop for boy in zuzu =X)

    16. [Picture forthcoming]

I bought this skirt for Mel.

      She fits into it perfectly.

    17. {more pictures forthcoming}

The following things from CoolCat on ebay:

Black and pink striped Blythe socks: Super freaking cute. A bit snug around the feet when accommodating paws, go right up to the knee. Tend to get stuck in her joints, but I love them.

Striped pink and black long-sleeved top: This is cute, but the sleeves are impossible to get over her paws. Had to remove them to get it on, so it's going to be staying on for awhile. It is a bit bulky around the shoulder area. Fits snuggly. Very cute!

Black trousers: Haven't tried these on quite yet, but they're stretchy and I'm sure they're going to fit fine.

Fishnet Knee Socks: Super cute. These are YoSD size, so they go up quite a bit higher than her knees, but I bought them for that reason.

      Black t-shirt- perfect fit!

Lace T-shirt (pink with white lace around the bottom): Another adorable, perfect fit!

Blythe clothes are great options for Zuzus. I'm definitely going to be searching for more, particularly in the goth-lolli style. I'll try to post pics whenever I get some time. Oh and fyi, they combined shipping for me and I think I paid maybe $25 for the whole lot. Not too bad!

    18. cool cat shirt fit nice and snug only thing is the velcro gets in the way of the tail magnet. So I had to leave it open a bit.

Question for everyone. What do you use for pants? With two boys I really need to keep them clothed =D Anyone can confirm that blythe pants work well? with pictures if possible =D especially not stretchy

    19. The shoes labeled "Hujoo Berry" will probably be narrow. The tighter fitting styles only have 13mm of width.

The 38mm size that Comtesse duBunny tested doesn't come in a lot of styles but, as well as the Elegant Mary Jane Shoes (756), they also come in Girl Dress Shoes (733) [scaloped edge MJs], Sporty Shoes (730) [Sneakers] and Fancy Slip-On Shoes (761) [Slip ons with bows]. I dug through all the shoes looking for that size when I was trying to shoe a different doll XD

Boneka makes some 35mmx20mm shoes, or at least they DID. I don't know if they are out of stock or what.
